Part of human nature is one that likes to profit and gain advantage from the suffering of others.

Take a look at the Elian Gonzales incident.

Take a look at 9-11.

I dunno what you're talking about, 'cause I see one twisted page.

Here's what it says:

TERRISCHIAVO.COM

The sad and tragic case of Terri Schiavo brings us face to face with reality that often our wishes about our own health care are ignored. And instead of it being our decision whether to have a feeding tube, to remain on life support, or to donate our organs, it's up to the courts or even Congress to decide.

But this situation can be avoided with something as simple as a Living Will. A Living Will is a legal document that allows you, as a competent adult, to direct the providing, withholding, or withdrawal of life-prolonging procedures in the event that you have a terminal condition, have an end-stage condition, or are in a persistent vegetative state.

I felt disgust for the guy auctioning the flag from ground zero at the Twin Towers, as well. He was quick to tell everyone that he's a cancer patient, using it for his treatment. What he didn't mention, though, is that he's not terminally-ill. Someone already offered him 100,000 dollars, which is plenty of money to cover his medical bills. Or, if that's not enough, any museum would offer enough money for his cancer bills. But no, he wasn't just paying for his cancer treatment. He was paying for his cancer treatment and giving his family a nice, fat inheritance.

Sad ain't it?

What's worse is that back in 2000, Newsweek had the Elian Gonzalez incident as the #1 news story of the decade, with Diana's Death coming in at #2.

Pathetic huh?

Well, this is a fundamental right of capitalism and free enterprise. Anyone has the right to make as much profit as they can out of their own creativity and the misery of others. Screw those whiners and commies, eh?

Honestly, it doesn't matter who this person is rooting for, Terri's husband or the pro-lifers; what she is doing is plainly disgusting and tasteless.

Oh, I can top that for pathetic. In 2003 the BBC asked Britons to vote on the most influential Britons of all time, and Diana came THIRD, ahead of Charles Darwin, William Shakespeare, Sir Isaac Newton and Elizabeth I of England.
Now that's Pathetic.

But on the bright side-maybe its a step in the right direction toward other people going through the same ordeal.
Just trying to find something positive in all this.

living wills can be written for free. i believe that anyone can get one from their health care provider. all they need is 2 witness signatures or notarized.

I don't see anything more disgusting about this than the hungry way the news and the public lap up every latest bit of gossip about her story in the first place.

I have to admit if I was in a coma I wouldn't mind this sort of thing. I'd be in a coma after all... there ARE more important things than the web and people making more money than I do with ideas I should have thought of first. ;)

Thank you! Finally a rational reply! It's nice to know I'm not the only one seeing the other side to this.

Yeah. Terrible thing, this "democratic" nonsense, ain't it! Tsk! What's next, people actually thinking that politicians should be concerned about an individual's rights? The horror!

Democratic nonsense? This is a state issue, and it should never have become a federal issue. You know how it did? Three Republican's voted on a bill in the dead of night. Yeah, go fucking democracy.

Not to mention the fact that Bills of Attainder are explicitly forbidden by the Constitution. What they've done is illegal. No court in the US could possibly allow it if challenged.

I belive you mean Ex Post Facto. A Bill of Attainder, as defined by The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language is:

"A legislative act pronouncing a person guilty of a crime, usually treason, without trial and subjecting that person to capital punishment and attainder. Such acts are prohibited by the U.S. Constitution."

As opposed to Ex Post Facto, which is:

"a law that retroactively alters a defendant's rights esp. by criminalizing and imposing punishment for an act that was not criminal or punishable at the time it was committed."

However, Ex Post Facto does not apply to the Schiavo case because they are punishing anyone, nor convicting anyone of a crime. The government is simply passing legislation to stop a case of euthenasia.

"These clauses of the Constitution are not of the broad, general nature of the Due Process Clause, but refer to rather precise legal terms which had a meaning under English law at the time the Constitution was adopted. A bill of attainder was a legislative act that singled out one or more persons and imposed punishment on them, without benefit of trial. Such actions were regarded as odious by the framers of the Constitution because it was the traditional role of a court, judging an individual case, to impose punishment." William H. Rehnquist Emphasis added

No, I definately mean Bill of Attainder. As in the passing of a bill that affects only one person. There no way at any time that's okay.

Yeah they love it and so does the media. How about they ask the taxpayers who will be paying to keep this lady "living" for another 15 years?
