Why has America been so torn by the political battleground?

liberals v. conservatives...
Repubs. v. Demos. ...
white v. wheat (jking)...
why do we bicker so wonderfully?
why do we skirt an issue at hand with inter-party fighting rather than actually try to solve the issue together as Americans?

Well, this isn't a "new" thing, Sephyr. It's simply that the Cold War allowed us to set aside our differences and unite in misguided hatred and abuse of power. Without the U.S.S.R., the politicians needed something to do, so they turned on each other.

Sounds like sarcasm, but it isn't. This is literally what occured.

I think that the primary cause of the more intense divide was the 2000 election mess. While that is an issue entirely in itself, I think that this marks the destruction of the growing bipartisanship that Clinton tried to develop (we actually balanced the budget!). Only a theory, however.

i know... a bipartisan system is good...
its just that we don't solve the problems... we just fight over the causes and who is at fault

Because when you can't convince people that you're right, it's pretty much human nature to collect everyone else that agrees with you to try to get things to go your way, whether by convincing people are just forcing it.
