Some man got drunk and brought a gun to my old high school. He asked for a job, but he smelled like alcohol so after he left the school called the cops. The guy came back with a gun and tried to get into the school, was stopped by the cops, pulled the gun on the cops, got it shot out of his hand, reached for it again, and got taken out by the police!
My brother still goes to that school!

Makes you wonder where he got it. He could not have bought it at a gun store.

I just saw it on the local news (KDKA).

Liberal solution: Alcohol was the problem: ban alcohol!
Or perhaps, just higher alcohol sales taxes. Yeah, that'll fix guys like this right up.

It's not like they didn't give him a chance, but a mental patient isn't going to understand the situation.
You took the words right out of my mouth.

I say we ban shooting people. Then he won't be able to use his gun to hurt people!

Murder is already illegal, no matter what weapon you use.
And to a mental patient, what is the law?

It really depends on the situation. I'm not sure if he's alive or not after the police got him. My brother will have to call me back.

Seems to me that a mental patient shouldn't even be able to buy a weapon.

In America that seems diputable.

I think I'm saying that a mental patient doesn't care what the laws are, and probably is not cognizant of the consequences of a situation.
Tell him to drop the gun, and he won't understand. Shoot it out of his hand, and he'll pick it up again.
It's a hell of a way to die, not even knowing that it's really happenning.

Gun stores are a lot more well-inspected than you realize. They have to keep explicit books, and they have to run the computer background check on everyone. Fail the check (if you've been a mental patient, or been in rehab, you're going to fail) and no gun.
The penalty for gun shop owners is a minimum of 10 years, and some have been sent up - so very, very few are willing to take the chance.
That's why 84 percent of criminals steal a gun. The rest buy from a person who can pass the check.
It's called the Brady Law. It seems to work - the background check.

His house? Perhaps he got a gun prior to being called "mental" or maybe a family member was careless and didn't lock it up.

Liberal solution: Give the adults at the school access to guns for situations like these.

Actually, this would be the right wing solution. Prohibition was started by religious zealots after all and the NRA would want to blame alcohol to take the attention away from the gun.
Liberals tend to be, shall I say, more LIBERAL when it comes to drug laws. :)

Then the 'rightwing' is 'liberal', or the 'liberal' is 'rightwing' (I hate these bullshit terms anyway).
The active principle is the same in any case - blame the presumed cause, not the actor. And there are certainly religious zealots on all sides of the political spectrum.

It seems that my brother was a bit off. He applied for a job at Lias Tire (right next to the school), not the school itself.
