Would You Sacrifice Your Life For A Stranger?
If the moment came to it, would you sacrifice your life to preserve the life of another? I would protect a child, however a fully grown adult is shit out of luck :p . What about everyone else?

Since both my wife and I carry concealed, we've discussed this. If we're attacked, sure we would defend ourselves.
But, would we defend others? In a hypothetical case where someone is shooting up the local mall, would we move to get in a position to kill the shooter, taking the risk that we might be killed?
And we decided, yes, we would.

Endanger, with chances of coming out alive, maybe to yes. Sacrifice for certain, no.

I would probably give my life, though it depends on the situation. I admit, I have quite a guilty conscience, even when I don't do anything wrong, so if I failed to help someone...anyone, then I would have to live with that guilt for the rest of my life, and that alone would kill me.

No, but we're well armed and we have extra ammunition. We also train more often than the local police. Each of us goes through about 20,000 rounds per year in the pistols alone - our local police are lucky to average 200 rounds a year in training and qualification. We also train with simunitions several times a year - shooting with real guns and plastic rounds in a training house.
So no, we're not the SWAT team.

Then I must ask you this question. What is your favorite military issue small arm?

Depends on how hot she was :p
Nah, I think most people would like to think they would, but without having been in a similar situation you can never tell how you would truly react. I'd like to think I would "be the hero", but who knows?

I don't like the M-16 or M-4, and don't like any other countries weapons for rifles.
When I was in the Army I carried an M-24 most of the time.
I prefer to carry a non-military issue handgun. I hate 9mm. I really like the Mauser M2 for concealed carry, in 45 ACP.

I like the Thompson Sub-Machine Gun. Only that's not small arm, so I'd go with a Death Ray, a la Buck Rodgers in the Twenty First Century!

Ah, sniper eh? I prefer CQB. I don't really like the M-16 or the M-4 either. I have law enforcement connections so I have been lucky enough to fire some pretty nice weaponry. I like the MP-5, although it's a wimpy 9mm round it's highly accurate and has a fast sustained rate of fire. Don't really like the SD series though when it's loaded up with sub-sonic ammunition, takes away from the power. :D

I'll just be honest here- If they're really, really hot.
Also they look like they enjoy life in general.
I ain't mean enough to make a kid live that much longer than they have to, but the pretty people tend to deserve it. Happiness in this life is rare enough that I won't begrudge someone who already has a little, but in most cases I'll just join the bumrush, every man to himself.

But the real question is, would you sacrifice a stranger for their own life?
Would somebody else sacrifice both you and the stranger for neither of your lives?
Would a stranger sacrifice you for a Klondike bar?
These, we must ponder.

I would, without question sacrifice my life for that of a child. I have lived at least part of my life - and would think it a great and honorable thing to grant someone else that same opportunity. Theres no need to elaborate - Id save a child in an instant.
For an adult the situation gets tricky - but I would like to think that I would also do the same for any other unknown person. Of course I'll have to make the assumption that me saving this person is a heat of the moment thing. Based on that assumption, the answer is yes. To die saving someone thus, is to give that person the greatest gift to both them, and those surviving you. The person you save, will taste every kiss that much sweeter, and watch every rising sun with that much more intesity. Their life, in a sense, would be lived for two. You would live on in them and the hearts of those you loved. Its a noble and proud way to die - which is more than I can say for most peoples deaths. I cannot think of a more fitting way to die - than by giving someone else life. Its a powerful gesture of the human spirit.

I like to think that I am the kind of person who would. Thinking about it frightens me silly because I can play the hypothetical situations in my mind and I hesitate. But having been in one or two serious situations before, I also know that I am strong enough to rise and meet the challenges head on.
So, yes, I would sacrifice my life for a stranger.

Would I... that's an interesting question. You never can answer it truthfully until it happens, you can answer it with your ideal, or with your initial gut-reaction, but until the guy is in front of you, with a gun/knife/bat... you don't know.
The guy who's a total screw-up in your unit, might be the guy that gives it all when the chips are down, while mister all-american-hero is sniveling in the corner of the track, afraid to get out.
Firemen do it all the time, Cops do it almost as often. Those guys deserve every bit of respect for that.
but a Civilian? You don't know, even if you say you wouldn't, unless you've been there, you don't know.
