I need help! Has anyone played the game Homeworld and beaten it?
I'm on the Kranos (or whatever) Graveyard level (13) and can't seem to figure out how to get a fighter or corvette to the sensor array thingy. They keep gettin' destroyed. And when I try to use capitol ships they're stolen by that little ship with the claws that seems nearly impenatrible!

Does anyone have any suggestions?

P.S. I've tried using vast numbers of fighters or corvettes (around 60 interceptors at one time), but that doesn't even work!

I don't recall what I did, but I believe I just pooled together all my capital ships and just went straight through destroying all warp points and whatever else, destroy the warp points and the uber salvage corvette can't get you

And yeah, you can't take out the junkyard dog, I hit it with everything I had and didn't scratch it

But I really don't want to lose any important capitol ships. I've taken a lot of painstaking care to steal different ships along the way. I really, really, really don't want to lose the Taiidan Heavy Cruiser I stole last level.

And how does a ship the size of a corvette have such heavy armor? That's crazy!

I have done it to. Don't remember how. Been a long, long time ago. Did you pick up homeworld in the 99 cent bin or something?

My Way Of Funking Up The Junk Yard Dog

( Which makes the mission a * lot * easier )

Okay, this takes a little preperation to get working. You'll need some resources to build the following if you don't already have some when you far-jump into the level.

What You Need :

5-9 Minelayer Corvettes

1-2 Grav-Well Generator Ships

1 Resource Frigate

What to Do :

Okay, on your tac-map, look around, you've got a fair distance to the left and right of the fleet. From the Mother-ships orientation, go far left, away from the Guns in Space automates and to the border of the Junk Dog detection range ( Experiment with a spare colector to find out where this is. You can get it back later, hopefully, :p )

Right, at the edge of the Dog's range, ( " Forward " of which it'll come into home in on your bait Resource Collector ), order your 5 - 9 mine corvetes into any formation and build a mine field on that spot. Once a smallish field has been built, move them, slightly, and build another field. Continue on until mines start to dissapear, telling you the max number you can generate in the game at one time is reached, or until you have a cluster fuck of the nasty little things.

Now move your Grav-Wells around, crefully, so they are behind the feild in the " safe " side still. As long as you move them out of range in the safe zone out-side the Junk Yard, your capital ships will be safe, usually. Sometimes the Dog will detect it / them and home in, don't worry, same thing can be done as what I out-line, but this makes it more easy this way rather then that.

Move your Resource collector into tracking range, once you see the Dog moving in on the Tactical Map, make it retreat so the mine field is between it and the Dog.

( Be careful not to fly it into the mine-field )

Activate the ( 1 ) Grav-Well when the Dog is in Mine range. they'll home in and cap the fucker, usually. As long as you hav enough mines, as they do killer damage to most ships, they eat away those Uber Hit Points like nothing else you've seen.

If you don't have enough mines, order the fleet to assemble near-by and pound the fucker. If they take a while to get there, use your second Grav-well to take over holding duty and retreat the first one for repairback at Mother.

Also, If you position the corvettes right, they'll be able to toss mines at the Dog while its pinned but stay out of the field.

If it does break free, it'll hopefully still target the cheap Resource Collector near-by. You can pound it some more as it passes the fleet now assembled, but with any luck its dead by now.

If this fails ( unlikely ), build some more mine-corvettes and try the process all over again. If it does fail and the Grav-Wells give out, your capital ships should be safe, as long as that Resourcer is still close by to keep its attention.

Then, once Mr Dawg is Mr Deaded, get a core strike force of an Avatar Heavy Cruiser, or a Taidaani one if you've grabbed it, and some destroyers, and back them up with repair frigates. With the Dawg Dead, you can use their serious armor to tackle the auto-guns one by one, and repair in between each gun.

Evasive cloaked fighters, if you have them yet, can work well too, but be prepared to have to use Kamikaze tactics with Interceptors on Evade or Agressive modes to kill all the Sensor Plat-forms first, else the cloakers will be seen and creamed.

Once the guns die, that is it. Move in, recover any lost capial ships taken by Mr Dawg, now long gone, and get your strike team in to dock a fighter with the Junk Yard Office structure.

Also be on the look-out for some cool as cool can be scrapped concept designs, that you cannot salvage, I'm afraid.

It takes a while to set up and some of it depends on luck, but if you really want to kill that annoying Dog Ship, this is how I did it.

I used Defenders (a type of fighter) to go around in groups and destroy the auto guns that litter the area. The ghost tug thingie can't capture fighters.

Then I build attack bombers (another type of fighter) to go around and destroy all the warp points. Then I have them chase the tug thingie and destroy it.

In the meantime, you can send a couple of scouts to dock with the communication point.

Grav wells and multi-beam frigates.

Trap the Dawg with the grav wells and then move in the frigates to blast it to kingdom come. I forget the rest of that mission, but there are good walkthroughs, if you just google for them.

Thankx y'all! I'm almost done with the level (had to save and get off). Here's what I did:

Built 8 assault frigates, 6 ion cannon frigates, and 3 drone frigates. As it turns out, the Junkyard Dawg only steals three ships and then goes off with the third one somewhere and hides (it stays attached to the ship). After it's stolen three of your ships then you can go around destroying the auto guns (dang there're alot of 'em!) and jump points (although there really is no need to since the JD isn't going to be using them).

I went to a really cool site that explained everything to me. Check it out: http://well-of-souls.com/homeworld/hws/

Oh, and no, I didn't pick Homeworld up in some store. I saw Homeworld 2 at Hasting's and bought it. But, alas, it wont work on my crappy computer. So I figured there had to be a Homeworld 1 somewhere and I went to Amazon.com and searched for it. Found it, bought it, playin' it.

P.S. Love the theme song.

Yeah, the music rocks ! ...

* Random HW1 Music Trivia : For any who don't know, the music played when Kaarak Burns is " Angus Dei " and the really, really, cool end credits music is called " The Ladder " by YES, but that should get hammered home to you enough, because I think most discs actually have a whole bit on them and The Ladder if you look about on it.

Actually "The Ladder" is the name of the album by Yes on which the theme song was placed. The Homeworld theme song is actually called "Homeworld."
I was really hoping that Homeworld 2 would have the same song on it, but I did some research (since I'm dying to play Homeworld 2 but can't) and found out it would just be more of the "soft" music. Not that I don't like the soft music that is.

*sigh*... I finally finished Homeworld today. The ending almost made me cry. It's so uplifting to see an entire group of people fulfill their destiny (if that makes any sense to those less "emotional" people out there).

Gravwell generators to trap it, then smash the dawg apart with everything you have, particularly a captured Heavy Cruiser.

Seriously, they get stuck there, and the poor dawg can't move. Then split the thing apart, as it's a corvette class, so it just sits there. It's quite fun to do :).
