As it was set up in the movie it was a pretty poinient moment and a clear and well earned insight to the character, or the lesson of the filmmaker.
The filmmaker had painted himself into a corner with his self-doubt about whether or not people liked his work and by extension, him. He had seperated himself from the artist, the part of him that didn't care, that was soo sure that what he did was good that he never doubted it for a second, manifested in the twin Kaufman. In the final act of the movie, where he has let that element take over (notice that the last third of the movie contains all of the things the twin had advocated and Charlie had rejected) he realizes that his work isn't valued in who loves it but how much love he puts into it.
Wow, that was craptacular....D-, anyway, you all get the idea....

no. what you love and what loves you are both aspects of who and what you are, but your being cannot be summed up with either.
I agree with it completely.
No, I'd have to disagree. You are what loves you just as much what you love.

What on all the Earth does that mean????
Maybe we have to see the movie to find out.
What on all the Earth does that mean????
I thought of the effects the people that love you have on you and the effects the people that you love have on you. I figured that you love the people that love you, but that the person who you love does not love you back. In this case, I thought of family for the first part and someone you sought after for the second. So the question basically is are you the result of influences from those who love you, or those you love?

...but that the person who loves you does not love you back.
That makes no sense. If they love you, they love you.
I think the acceptance of this quote will vary greatly from individualistic to collective cultures. I happen to think that you love what you are, and your attitudes can be formed from your actions.

Good thing i never watched the movie!
Id have to say only others affection makes you the person you are!
Yes, I TOTALLY agree with it. You are defined by your own characteristics, not by the people around you. Unless of course you are talking about family members who have raised you since birth, because you most likely have assimilated some of their mannerisms.
That makes no sense. If they love you, they love you.
but that the person who you love does not love you back.]
Sorry, I fixed it.

Agreed. Example:
If I love a girl more than anything, give her attention and presents etc and she loves me back I am a happy lover.
If I love a girl more than anything, give her attention and presents etc and she fears me and wants me to go away i am a stalker.
