The stupid party and the evil party.

I heard a story about a Washington DC tour guide who was having trouble trying to explain the American "two-party" system to foreign tourists. The problem is that the two sides don't quite match up with political factions and parties in other parts of the world so it was hard to explain which is which. He simplified the explaination by saying, "In American we have two-party system: the evil party and the stupid party." The tourists laughed and seemed to understand this better than anything else. I'm not sure if it's a true story, but I agree with the message. I'm just not sure which party is which.

So which is it? Is the Republican party the stupid party and Democratic party evil, or is it the other way around?

I'm not sure what that's supposed to mean. I don't think corporations are necesaily evil, and I also hold an unpopular anti-union view but am not sure if they're evil or just stupid.

Well, as much as I love democrats and I dislike republicans, I think the the repubs may be stupid, rather than evil. Just look at our president :D

The democrats, on the other hand, are evil--they are pro-abortion. Thus, I vote repub--stupid, and democrat--evil.

I like your system too!

I don't think there is an evil party, or even a stupid party...
There was no way the dems were gonna win 2000, Gore=Bore might as well have been his campagin slogan, and well Bush wasn't anything like Clinton, whether ppl regret this now is another matter..
The Republicans or certain members cleverly had Bush elected, a man who is easily led in a direction of Daddy's Cronies chosing,
Now, if you were a head hancho in the DP and knew that if you had a bad pres elected for 8 years, a bad republican pres, then wouldn't you be glad that Bush won, so in conclusion...
Either they're both very smart or very dumb.....or maybe its just all politics

Currently, the party that used whatever means to get into the White House and enact world-threatening policies is the evil one, and the one that had the single easiest opponent, a president whose quotes were like punchlines in their simplicity, and failed to win, is the stupid one.

But on a longer term, I believe that isn't necessarily constant. In fact, it doesn't need to be. The two-party system will always guarantee that one party is stupid and the other one evil, no matter which is which.

if you look at the type of insults they throw at each other, the Republicans seem most interested in proving Democrats are inept, while the Democrats try to show the Republicans are pure evil. don't know what that might say about howt the parties actually ARE, but there you have it...

That's pro-choice. And there are pro-choice Republicans. Supporting the right for a person to make his/her own decisions is not the same as approving of them.

Come to think of it, the Stupid Party is the american voter who doesn't vote for a third party candidate and gets one of the Evil Party politicians.
Switch to MMP, the German & New Zealand political system and you can get honestly scaled representation.

My vote goes for:

Republican = Stupid
Democrat = Evil

My reasoning is that democratic ideals are vastly more liberal (by definition), which in terms of religious "morality" are often "evil"... Pro-choice, pro-gay marriage, etc... In terms of the hot-button issues, Democrats are often on the "evil" side... (note that I keep putting "evil" in quotes because I myself side with them on many of these issues, and I do not personally consider them to be evil... it's just how things are viewed in our Christian-centric country)

Republicans, on the other hand, are conservative, and often religiously minded... And in our predominately Christian society, their ideals fall right in line with the side of "good"... However, we non-religious people often view the faithful as being "stupid"... It's a very strong stereotype that the most fervently religious people are often the most "backwoods" or "redneck" people... Traditionalist thinking is viewed as primitive and outdated... And thus, in modern society, it is "stupid"...

So, basing things mostly on the religious ties of the parties (which I know aren't universal in the least, but stereotypically so, this is how it would seem to be), the Republicans are stupid, and the Democrats are evil...

they are both evil (not the terminology i'd normally use, but whatever), but i still gotta go with the repubs being less stupid than the dems. this is mainly because the dems are unable to effectively use the blatant and mind-numbingly idiotic evil shit the repubs do and transform it into political victories for themselves. they just suck at being a political party.

on the other hand, the tactics the repubs use, while being really stupid, seem to work quite well. significant majorities of republican voters think the party is in favor of a wide variety of things it is vocally against. but still the repubs win elections - they must be doing something right (in the same sense that the ingsoc government of oceania was doing something right, anyway).

Two party systems do not work. If you dont want to change it atleast you could have put in two political partys that make sence for God's sake.
America can hardly be calld conservative but when it comes to that OLD constitution they wont change it, W T H?

It's a bit tricky. Republican politicians are evil and try to appeal to the evil in people. But really, only the stupid go for it in any measure.

Democratic politicians adopt some pretty stupid strategies in campaigning, but the more well educated and kind hearted a person is, the more likely they are to vote democrat.

If you just look at the politicians then it's pretty clear.
Repub = evil
Dems = stupid.

"The Right is wrong, but the Left doesn't get it." -Rohr, OFM

I'd like to point out that the United States is not a Christian society or nation, nor as is the popular misconception was the U.S. founded by Christians. Americas "Founding Fathers" were Deists.

I think it is evident that both parties are stupid. The definition of Evil however, is being willfully ignorant. Evil is not some petty occurance like not going to Mass on Sundays. This demeans the meaning of evil, and if anything its Evil to teach kids things like that. Also it should be noted that THE Sin is eating of the fruit of Knowledge of Good and Evil. Passing Judgements like we are God.

Republican politicians are evil and try to appeal to the evil in people. But really, only the stupid go for it in any measure.

what's really sad are the perfectly decent people who vote republican based on a single issue and who ignorantly assume (though it is almost certainly a willfull sort of ignorance) that because the repubs are 'good' on that issue they must hold similar opinions on other issues. at least with the evil you know where you stand. its much harder to undo the damage with the willfully ignorant.

Well most people have a tendency to want to be avenged when wronged. Only the most saintly of us genuinly care about the poverty or family situation that drove the guy who mugged us on the subway. That's why you never see Superman in a soup kitchen.

But republicans actually try to elicit that feeling by telling us that the best way to stop crime is to lock up bad people. This appeals to the fairly universal human desire to think that you are one of the "good people" and that "bad people" need to be punished.

Democrats tend to view crime with a longer view. But it's a more complicated one. One that says that it costs less to educate people now so that they don't become criminals tommorrow. It is the sensible way, the effective way, and the humane way.

Republicans just complain "who's going to pay for all that charity." People don't like the idea of being forced to be charitable, but they don't realize that they're going to pay more to maintain a sprawling criminal justice system.

If republican voters were just selfish and heartless, they'd still be willing to invest in social welfare because it's cheaper than criminal justice. If they were stupid, but decent, they'd still be willing to invest in social welfare because it's the more moral thing to do. To vote republican you have to be both stupid AND evil, just not so much of either that it's readily apparent.

Well, Clinton was an evil genius. I don't mind living under an evil genius. I don't even mind living under a well intentioned dumbass (Carter). But evil dumbasses (Regan, Bush and Bush Jr.) really piss me off. What pisses me off even more is that there are enough evil dumbasses willing to vote for them.

What I'm worried about is when we get a well intentioned genius.
