Whats your favorite anime series?

The Lightning Star
21-03-2005, 22:22
I was just watching an episode of Ghost in the Shell-Stand Alone Complex-GIG 2 and wondered, "Hmmmm, I wonder what the NS communities favorite Anime is...". So, what is your favorite Anime series(if you even have one)

Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh are only on this list because millions of the worlds children have been corrupted into buying expensive(but low quality) toys. If they weren't so damn popular, they wouldn't be within 100 feet of this poll.

Can't pick just one. Now if I could get them all on TV at the same time.

Oh! Big O.

It's dark, difficult to understand and we lose in the end. The last scene in Evangelion when Shinji tries to strange Asuka and cannot bring himself to do it was an excellent ending. A beach and a blood red sea and humanity gone except for those two.

And as for YuGiOh... that show got a bad hand. First the japanese anime was toned down from the manga, and then it got sent to 4Kids and deserves the title of "Worst. Dub. EVER." Not to mention when it got turned from its original intentions into "OMGDuelMonsterz!"

Is it because their mouths don't move when they talk? Thats the most prolific reason I hear. Many people that I speak to say that anime is "badly animated" or of really bad quality. Personally I think that anime is of far better quality than 'normal' cartoons.

But each to their own I guess.

Witch Hunter Robin is great. So is Hellsing.

I share your guilty pleasure as well; hell I just like the whole concept of a child-sherlock holmes. I put it up with Lupin the 3rd as examples of old shows that still kick ass.

Btw, could you sum up Wolf's Rain for me a bit? I never understood what the heck was going on. I watched an ep where the main character seemingly found paradise, but didn't see any wolves there and seemed depressed. I never saw the eps after that...I'm just confused. What was the story of the show?

Boy, I don't think I can summarize. There was at least one set of epsidoes where Kiba was in a false paradise, so that is probably to what you are referring.

Do you really want me to spoil it? They replay it from time-to-time.

Well, even though this title is regarded just slightly above Pokemon in the esteem of most Anime fans, my vote goes to Dragon Ball Z (and DB, and DBGT, by association)...

Of course, the dub was horrible, the show isn't as "deep" as most of the titles listed, and it has plenty of other faults that prevent most of the "true" Anime fans from enjoying it, but I absolutely love it...

In fact, my NS username is an acronym for "SuperSaiyanGokuX", which is the username I use all over the internet...

So, anyways, long live DBZ!

Gundam Wing.
Although I did, and sorta still do, have an interest in the DragonBall series (And know too much about it).

Also, I enjoy Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, FLCL, and a few others on [adult swim] when I vacation in Florida, since we don't get it here. Looking forward to it next month when I head down.

Notable mention to Astro Boy, which I apparently loved as a child, as well as Transformers, the oldschool version, which kicks ass also.

Oh yea, and the first season of Pokemon was cool... same with the first season of Digimon.. but they went down hill from there.

Started watching Teen Titans lately, I think that's Japanese, and it's pretty good to.

EDIT: You know, I flick into Yu-gi-oh on YTV sometimes, randomly spaced weeks apart, and I swear to you every time I flick on it's the next episode in the series from the last one I flicked in on some time before.
Seriously, it's weird.

Definately Neon Genesis Evangelion. I prefer the TV ending though, and not the one in End of Evangelion. Both endings represent failure in a way, but I prefer the psychological way of dealing with that failure in the series and not the fighting way as in EOE.

Yes and No. EoE describes the events between 24 and 25, but from one point on SEELE's plans (The human complementation shown in 25/26) are no longer carried out and are replaced by Shinji's wishes for a universe. Thus, a part of EoE replaces the original one and the other half serves to explain either.

Yeah, that's a no brainer. But the three stories don't mesh together in their Japanese (original) forms.
