Mine is either Norman Bates, the zombies from Night of the Living Dead (the original, of course!), or the Great White Shark from Jaws.

Since when has Frankensteins monster been a villain?
Please don't tell me Hollywood has produced films with the poor creature as a villain.........

I voted - Dracula.
I never knew brains were a villain. :p
Ya, brains as villains is more the superhero trope, not horror. Although Dr. Frankenstein was more the villain than the monster, and the remake of the blob was the result of a science experiment.

Then, well, I'm sorry to tell you this, but I don't think that you are a horror buff. Go to the movie store right now, and rent all three. Only way to redeem your soul.
It is actually more of a figurant-role. The legless skeleton from Hellboy, total crap movie and not horror. I can see it muttering: "If I had legs, I would kick your ass" and "I was better of dead". Gave me cool idea for an evil character for d&d: an evil cavalier with that skeleton on his back.

I'm talking about the original movie. And, yes - I liked it.
Blood and gore doesn't bother me - it's the psychological thrillers that I cannot handle like - Silence of the Lambs, to mention one.

The original wasn't scary. The newest one kicked as*.
ilence of the Lambs was a lame excuse for a horror. Exrist was awesome.

Same here. I voted for good ole Normy Bates because he frightens me more than the others listed. People are scarier than monsters and such.

Ahhhh...Dracula, there's just something about having the victims blood sucked from them...
I'm basically into the whole vampire genre, Dracula, Lestat, Queen of the damned, all that...

Don't like the baddies behind masks much.
Bad Ash was good. Jack in Psycho, Norman Bates, they were good too because they were so creepy. I love the vampire genre. But the horror flicks that terrified most were those with Vincent Price and Christopher Lee - but that may also be attributable to the fact that I was so young. And the bad ass kid in The Omen. I didn't sleep for a whole week.

I chose "other", because you left out Freddy Krueger. Even though he isn't so scary now, when I saw Nightmare on Elm Street, I couldn't sleep for two nights. What else could be scarier than a guy that kills you in your dreams?! With finger knives!? (God, I wish I had a glove like that.)
The "Dawn of the Dead" and "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" remakes were both totally pointless.

I guess me not seeing them was a good thing, then.

Well, as far as horror movies go I've always been partial to psychological horrors. So my choices would have to include: Anthony Perkins as Norman Bates in Psycho, Jack Nicholson as Jack Torrence in The Shining, and Max Von Sydow as Leland Gaunt in Needful Things.
I heavily debated whether or not to include the last, since I really am not a fan of Stephen King - but if any of his work deserves credit for its potential it was this adaptation. It was the first movie to portray the devil in such a form, and really get into his methods. Truly an original concept. It was a shame that Max's stunning performance was overshadowed by the obvious lack of a decent budget and direction (ok, so outside of the one actor the performances were shoddy at best). Still, as far as the concept, and Max's acting - well worth a watch if you haven't seen it already.
I'd have included Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal in any of that trilogy. The problem there is that in spite of his incredible work in acting out that character... I found it nearly impossible to overlook his charm in every other movie hes ever been in. Still, I give him credit for a simply brilliant job - I dont think that part could have been played out half as good by any other actor.

"Demons to some, ANGELS to others ...."
To be fair, he was usually an avatar for those of us truly seeking the finity of the parameters of sensual experience.
...AND i guess the Cenobites were a real group of professionals employed by Torquemada, just not so obviously demons. In that whole trans-dimensional sense, anyway.
I didn't have any personal problem with him, he had a good wit at times!
