I feel sorry for you, we had one once that started lambing at 4 in the morning-really ruined my sleep that did.

You should change to Llamas or Alpacas.
Nt only do they always crap in the same place (great for collecting manure - and that's where the potato originally came from), apparently they also only give birth during the day and when it's warm and sunny. They'll hold on otherwise.
Perfect animals, if you ask me.

You will let me know if the lambs have stopped screaming. ...

Half the lambs started coming in January down here (Southern England) this year... I think the mild winter got the sheep a bit confused. Poor farmers had to live out in a caravan during January. Brrrr.

I read this whole thread to myself in an English accent. :p

LOL. So did I. But then, being British myself...

not sure, but you'll definitely have the alpaca market good and cornered in Yorkshire. They make for good blankets.

I don't.

But that is just me (a lot of people I know only think there are two american accents, the American one, and the southern drawl).:p

Grew up in horse and cattle country myself. Well there were some sheep down at the Agricultural college down the road, but spring was always spent trying to get the feilds unflooded. No time for pointing out the sheep or the lambs. (Although I went by there every weekend in winter practically...)

maybe you do, maybe you don't, the point is that i'm assuming stuff about you based entirely on your nationality, and making sweeping generalizations about my own. :D

Er the Yankee twang and the southern drawl.
Of course that is sort of like comparing the Scots with the English.

Or Lancishire and Yorkshire, you can't compare them...

As I grew up on a small family sheep ranch (just big enough to be a lot of work but just small enough that I was the ranch hand), you have my sympathies. Lambing is hard work (but rewarding.) How many head do you have?

Yikes. My sympathy.

Could be worse, though. My father used to speculate as to which of our lambs (by name) we were about to eat whenever he served lamb. Really appetizing.

Llamas and Alpacas are cool. My family has had both from time to time.

Not good eatin' though.

i always know which of my pet lambs i'm about to eat. my family breed the sheep, my dad takes them to the abbattoir, where my boyfriend kills them and cuts them up, so i can pack them to take home and have for tea.

I am so glad that my family really just focused on raspberries and grain. Livestock: one dog, and the occassional horse put up in the stable by someone who was 'looking' for a bit of farmland.

I know how attached I got to my dog. I'm not sure I could eat something I put a name on.

Although I must say fresh lamb chops sound good right about now... Unfortunatly the South (U.S.) is only known for frying chickens, pork and beef.
