Should the European Union's Arms embargo on China be lifted? Yes or no? Why or why not?

It should be noted that China has recently gone on a spending spree, especially since the fall of the Soviet Union, and has purchased a considerable amount of military technology, including Sovremmny class destroyers, SS-N-22 Sunburn cruise missiles (capable of knocking out American ships), and Su27 and Su30 fighters.

Call me paranoid, but I don't trust the dictatorial Chinese government.

I think that the Chinese are a wonderful people, and they have a great culture, but their government, it's...eh, not so good.

Especially considering what they did to the protestors in Tiananmen Square.

Hell no. The military rise of China is bound to happen, there is no question about that. However, there are complications if it happens too fast. It can quickly alter the balance in the Taiwanese strait, making a crisis there a sticky situation. It would encourage China to be more politically intrusive into other countries in Asia. Finally, and most disturbing, if they buy enough enough arms from both Europe and the former Soviet Union, the Chinese may develope hybrid weapons that we may have no idea how to counteract.

There is no rational reason to lift it. Would only serve to bolster the Chinese military. If France and Germany are so eager to sell weapons. Sell them to Iraq again. They need to rebuild there army.
