The most heinous crimes?

What sort of crime or crimes do you see as the most heinous?
As a father and grandfather, my choice would have to be crimes of violence or neglect against children because of their total vulnerabilty and because crimes against them are the equivalent of crimes against the future. Others may disagree. When you post, please explain why you think a particular crime is the most heinous.
I'd have to agree with you on that one Eutrusca. I hear about child abuse or neglect, and it burns me up. Even worse if the parent thinks that it is "devinely sanctioned".

Several years ago, there was a case in ... I think Oregon, where the members of a cult took turns beating a young boy for "being possessed by the devil." He died after two days of beatings. This sort of thing use to depress me, now it just engrages me.

My sentiments exactly. I would also add that any action to impose one's views or ways on another is also a heinous crime imho. Freedom, free speech, free will... as an intelligent life form, we should embrace these values. We should learn to discuss and respect that our views are influenced by our education, our experiences, our social entourage, amongst other things. There is no need to resort to name calling and bashing.
Sorry, got carried away (end of rant)

Yeah...another sad thing is that these kids who survive in families that believe in devine corperal punishment ususally end up believing that they deserve such brutality in the name of God, wind up leading hard lives, and transfering that malice to the next generation.
I don't think God would want that...
It's shit like this that makes me question organized religion.

Fortunately many of those who attend church don't believe that you have to "beat the hell out of" your child to get them into heaven.

I'm not sure which is the worse crime:
1] Andrea Yates drowning her five children.
2] An appeals court overturning her conviction.
You be the judge.

Stealing people's brains and putting them in robots.
No, but seriously, rape is pretty bad, child abuse is disgusting (y'know, as well as other forms of abuse), but for whatever reason what really turns my stomach is animal torture. Animals, especially the young and domesticated, are more vulnerable than children often are, and what is done to them is usually far more heinous in practise than what is done to children.
You don't see strange men walking into a yard and biting off a baby's head, or taking unwanted children home only to burry them up to their necks in dirt so that they suffocate to death.
When those sort of things do happen to people, it is utterly horrendous, but the fact is that stuff like this happens way more often to animals, than it does for humans. And not only is it adults that do it, but children too, who get off with little more than a slap on the wrist because 'they don't know any better'.
That's my rant. So... yeah.
Check out Crime Library (http://www.crimelibrary.com/) anytime to get angry at the depths of humanity's depravity.
There are a plethora of sickening and deplorable crimes all throughout our history. From the rape and molestation of the mentally disabled (an all-too common occurence), the abuse of the young, pointless, needless murders, disgusting tortures and absolutely abhorrent state crimes (eg genocide).

I also tend to view those who use religion as a justification of their brutality to be guillotine worthy.

Agreed.
I'll agree that crimes against children are terrible. I think that if someone had gored Andrea Yates with a corkscrew that the next person who got it in their heads to murder a herd of children would hesitate.
I also despise anyone who could harm an elderly person. I've seen tapes of abuse from nursing homes, and I think the abusive employees need killing. I have no sympathy for someone like that, and think their deaths should be immediate and as painful as we can make it.
It's time to stop fucking around with people like this. A few horrible executions filled with screams of agony and bloodspray would be a fine, fine deterrant to these assholes.

Most of the times these kind of cases, is usually mother wants to commit suicide but don't want to leave the kids. Then kills the kids, and have second thoughts to commiting suicide.

(Historical Note:
Liars Rack: A large metal tube with a few sides on it. The victim sits on this had has weights tied to his feet and hands. The tube is turned.
NO children for you :P)

I feel the most heinous crimes are those commited to fulfil the ego. These generally comprise of things such as rape and murder.
Also, of course, crimes against children, especially sexual abuse - though of course I'm not trying to belittle phyiacl or emotional suffering here.
If I were categorising it simply by crime, I would place murder and rape joint first - murder because it is so final a termination, than cannot be recovered from, and rape because it is violent and done only to satisfy oneself/fulfill one's ego.
There's nothing wrong with an ego of course, but it should be fulilled in constructive ways such as authoring, acting, science, or something similar. Even just helping a charity out.

I agree that something needs to be done, but what??? It's been shown time and time again that executions, even public ones, don't act as a deterrent.
BTW ... in the unlikely even that I wind up being abused once I get to the status of "elderly" ( whenever that might be! ), the abuser is in for an extremely rude awakening! "Mess with the best, die like the rest!" Mwahahahaha! :D

Murder of children.
Personally, I think Rape is worse than murder in most situations. If you're raped, you suffer for much, much longer than murder. I wouldn't mind having the death penalty for rape cases. John Couey- that guy clearly does not deserve to live.
Also, child abuse is a very terrible thing. Also- Where is the line drawn between punishment and child abuse?

Murder-Taking a life and snaching people from their loved ones is unforgiving.
Rape- Will allways stay with the victim and perhaps cause death. In my oppinion it is the most heinous.
Abuse-No child should go through that, never!

Not really, no. She claimed she was saving her children from Satan, but to call her mentally ill because of that, the court would have to then call 74% of the US mentally ill (which, while it may be so, nobody wants it on the public record).
However, she was depressed. Incidental, though. She knew she was depressed (mostly post-partum) and was already undergoing treatment for it, and decided to have another kid anyway.
She should rot in jail for life.
