Cannot think of a name
20-03-2005, 15:19
I listen to Jazz, and as such have to include the entire cannon of performers, which includes everyone pictured here (http://www.harlem.org/images/mainimage.jpg) and many others. To select just five or to leave anyone out would be a diservice and a compramise to the music that is so interdependent.

In addition I love Sex Mob, The Kronos Quartet, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, The World Saxophone Quartet, and The Cherry Poppin' Daddies (shutup-they have better songs than that one...)
Sanctaphrax

Of course, you conveniently neglect that both you and FFM mentioned U2. ;)

I don't get your point in the first place, though? The bands that you listed aren't exactly the most individualistic choices that have some sort of "underground music" vibe to them. No offence, just that your argument is flawed.

But if I'm doing favourite songs a few that would have to be in there are:

You do something to me-Paul Weller
Just wanna make love to you-Etta James
Hurt-Johnny Cash
Boogie Wonderland-Earth, Wind and Fire

And so so many more......

Yeah, I know that and I've heard the original but I prefer the cover, hence me putting it above. I just think it has so much more emotion especially with Cash's voice. Though I am a NIN fan.

More of an "indie for emo kids" all star roster. ;)
I only stuck Anti Flag up there because they're the only punk rock band I like, and if I have a punk rock band up there, the mean punks won't beat me up.

Just to throw my two smallest units of currency in, I've heard both and I far prefer Cash's version. Possibly because I think Cash was one of the greatest musicians of Human history, but the emotion, and the video, makes me cry every time. NIN's version is just a song with good lyrics, it's hardly of the same caliber. IMO.

Man, I'm glad no one has mentioned Slipknot, otherwise I would have to rip off an appendage and beat them to death with it. Well my favourite at this moment in time are (in no particular order)

John Butler Trio
Spiderbait
System Of A Down
Rage Against The Machine
The Hives

Wouldn't mind giving Disturbed, A Perfect Circle, The Beautiful Girls, Dandy Warhols, Butterfly Effect, The Rasmus, The Donnas, Bob Dylan, Muddy Waters, Mars Volta, Regurgitator and Placebo a mention. Yes, it's very broad.

Ooh, and Frenzal Rhomb.

Ok five favourite bands
Queen
Split Enz
Hogsnort Rupert's Original Flagon Band/ Bulldogs Allstar Goodtime Band (a later incarnation with a couple of the same members)
The Baron Knights
Blink182

Not really bands so I've excluded them
George Formby
Johnny Cash
Eminem
Billy Connolly
Flanders and Swann

So a reasonably normal range of musical tastes I think.

How did you know?

I pieced it together. Apart from RATM, all of the bands in your top 5 were there as well as a few others in the "honourable mention" list.

As well as that, Spiderbait, SOAD and *especially* the Hives rocked, whereas Slipknot were absolutely shithouse.

So I figured you were probably there as well. :)

Well, fair enough. I quite liked The Hives, but John Butler Trio was the pick for me. I only lasted 20 mins in the mosh pit for SOAD though. Never go up the front for a metal band.

I was well and truly buggered after the Hives. Superficially "sprained" my ankle and was limping around the rest of the day. :p I wouldn't have survived SOAD :D

(Missed John Butler Trio...They were on at the same time as Spiderbait in Melbourne. :()
