My housemate and I have been working on recording a song (http://www.hlj.me.uk/A%20Cosmic%20Reflection%20mp3.mp3) for the last couple of days (which is why i haven't been on here much;)) and i'd love to know what you people think? We're quite proud of it - apart from anything else the guitar work is awesome - and hopefully will make some more soon :)

used MAGIX 2005 Silver Ed to record (and Sonic Foundry when needed) and just a half decent £25 mic from an electronics store :)
the amp was an ok Trace Elliot one (the Marshall stack is downstairs ;) seriously...)

keep trying recording with different kit & stuff man. it used to sound shit for years but i finally got it working

Cool. I have my awesome Laney valve amp that does the trick nicely, but only a crappy headset mic. I've been using a free program called "Audacity". I'll keep at it. I'll upload something soon. :)

I've been messing with Audacity too. It's not as great as some of those expensives programs like Ableton or Cubase, but it does the job if you can manage to get everything lined up properly.

Ah, I see. I asked because I've been toying with the idea of an 'NS musical' for a while (where people record themselves singing, then it's uploaded to a web site, which is linked to from NS). So, I was curious about how much that kind of thing costs.

Of course I've heard them. You'd be surprised how much structure is actually there. First off, they don't escape frequency. An "A" is an "A" because it vibrates at a certain frequency. This is inescapable. Second, much of their early stuff was rather simplistic I ii V7 progressives - again, structure.

The closest you'll find to lack of structure is the layered micropolyphony of Gyorgi Ligeti - you've heard his work if you've seen 2001: A Space Odyssey.

A funny thing happened in Music Class back in the 2nd Grade.

We were being assigned to instruments to perform a song, and we were to try out each and find which ones suited us best. I tried out every single one, and was superb with all of them. I wanted to be on the rhythm sticks (don't ask), but something very odd happened...

Nobody could play the drums. Kids who had very good rhythm on the rhythm sticks couldn't even do it. I tried it out, and I was the only one who could keep a steady beat, so I was placed on the drums.

I really didn't get it --- I mean, how could these kids be so stupid? Something has to be wrong with you if you can keep a good rub on the sticks, yet you can't even keep a beat for five seconds on the drums.

Haha, true. Although.. should it involve buying a new mic (I got pissed while playing BattleField and threw the head-set straight into the wall... twice) then I'm out :( .

Most of my money is going towards Games Workshop products right now (yes! I'm a geek!) so...

And, of course, there is the lazyness. I just can't be arsed to actually make a trip to the computer store and buy a new mic. And I am not in the mood to buy one of them cool sound cards for the comp with a guitar input...

But if I was going to, then I would be so totally in ;).
