Creative Juices

I was just watching THE WORLD'S WILDEST POLICE VIDEOS with that John Walsh guy, or whatever his name is, and my creative juices began flowing. Seeing police using teamwork to capture a fleeing suspect. I thought of a video game based around that.

THE PREMISE: Someone starts a game on the net and then other people join in. Let's say there are 8 people. 7 people become police while 1 person becomes 'The Suspect'. Then the police and suspect are put randomly on a large map being a city, or town with countryside, or whatever. The Suspect then has to go from one part of the map to another far-off location. But all the cops are looking for him. The suspect has to get to the designated point, without any police seeing him. But of course the police will see him, and they give chase. Therefore the suspect has to get so far away from the cops, so they can't see him, before he can get to the point and win. The cops' job however is mainly to corner the suspect to make him unable to get out. Then at the end of the round a new suspect is chosen and the old suspect becomes a cop and it rotates as such.

When I figured all that out I thought that was pretty basic, and that there must be something I could do to make it more interesting. Then I thought of Counter Strike. So...

Before each round players could buy a new car. Cops could buy a cruiser, a SUV, a SWAT Van, or maybe an unmarked car. The suspect could buy whatever car he'd like. Even things like buses, or Winnebagoes. If the suspect wins he gets a winner's pot and next time he's the suspect he can get the car back. And the Cops get a consolation pot. If the Cops win they get a winners' pot. And the suspect gets a consolation pot but loses his suspect car.

But I thought to myself, "That seems unfair. A gross advantage to the Cops." Then I came up with another idea.

Damage would play an important factor. If your car goes out of commission you lose it. Like if you flip your car 2 times, you're out for the rest of the round, and you wouldn't be able to use it next round, you'd just get a standard cruiser. But of course not all damage comes in huge amounts. In police chases it comes from multiple dents and bumps. Well after the end of each round the cops would have the option of repairing physical damage or performance damage (like transmission). If the suspect crashes out he loses of course but if he wins his car gets repaired for next time.

At this point I thought that I had a pretty good set up. But two thoughts came into my mind: Realism and COMMUNISM!

To keep things realistic a bonus would be made to police officers who perform real police tactics such as the Pit Maneuver. Police would be rewarded for keeping the realism.

I then realized one aspect of car chases I missed. The Last Ditch Effort.

A First Person mode could be put in. If a suspect is cornered he could jump out of his vehicle and start running. Of course police would be able to get out to run after, tackle, and handcuff the suspect.

I read "handcuff" and I remembered something...

Instead of police simply cornering the suspect they would have to get out, run to the suspect's car and pull him out to arrest him. The officer who does this gets a bonus and the end of the round.

I thought about officers just running up to a suspect's car to be dangerous so I had another great idea.

Weapons could be bought at the beginning of every round. Pistols, shotguns, rifles, and non-lethal weapons for police, and pistols and hunting rifles for the suspects. Things could erupt into a shoot-out. If they suspect manages to kill all the cops he wins. If police manage to take the suspect down by killing him they receive a small dock on their reward. Police could even get out of their car and get into other officers’ to act as 'shotgun'.

I thought of getting out of a car and getting into another as a good idea.

Suspects could get out of their car and hijack another car if they see fitting. If the suspect then wins he keeps the stolen vehicle.
