The gist of the article:
Forbes Magazine has listed Fidel Castro as one of the wealthiest people on the planet, a net worth of $550 million.
Castro says this is an outrage, slander, blah blah blah.
I personaly find this very funny ;)

What would be even funnier is if he really is a pauper. I can just imagine sat in his hut in military fatigues trying to work out how to telephone a lawyer without a telephone line.
*shrugs*I have a lot of respect for the old man, even if we don't hear much about Cuba anymore...I mean...U.S. has a big vendetta against "communist" countries...Soviet Union collapses...and little tiny Cuba sitting at the foot of America is still chugging away. That and he's survived a few attempts on his life.

So you gonna tell me you have all the history on the guy and that he's just a leader of a little picked on country. NOT!!
Castro was put into power by the U.S. in part because Batista was a bastard and nationalized all the Banks and businesses so Castro step ped up and said, "Hey! I can do better, I just need a little help taking over." So the U.S. said, "OK" you're our man, Then when Castro becomes the leader of Cuba he says, "Screw you U.S.A. I am gonna align myself with the U.S.S.R. " And invites them to give him missiles...
Now if you helped somebody out, wouldn't you be a bit peeved if they said, "now go get screwed." to you? Its not a vendetta against communist countries it's, "Hey we helped you out here, and this is the thanks we get?"
I know I made this somewhat simple, but sometimes its just gotta be that way to get some of you to understand that the good ol' U.S. of A. isn't always out to get you.
In fact there times when I wish the good ol' U.S. of A. would just tell you all to go get screwed when your countries are asking us for help or need bailing out and see what you all think then.

Countries without any resources or without strong markets where the US can sell their goods already enjoy this luxury. In fact, why don't you actually follow up with these empty threats and watch as the US collapses on itself due to lack of wares coming in? I'd really love a US that for once manages to solve it's own issues before messing around in other countries.

Ha, that is funny. I wonder if he would ask for money or just an injunction against Forbes from listing him.
If he is asking for money it would be a good way to get some hard currency in embargoed cuba. I heard that the guy who took that famous picture of Che Guerverra, the one with him wearing a beret and looking cool, sued a vodka company for putting his photo on their vodka bottles without his permission, and he won a large cash award which he donated to Cuban children's hospitals.
The whole suing people thing could be a lucrative enterprise for cuba.

For clarity...no...no I'm not going to tell you I have all the history on the guy...no I'm not gonna tell you he's the leader of a little picked on country...no I'm not gonna tell you anything else you suggested...and I never even came close to suggesting that U.S. is "always out to get [me]". Just for clarity of course...I stated that I respected him for his outlasting the other commies...*shrugs* if ya wanna jump to the other conclusions, go for it.

What countries might these be?
I know of no country that doesn't require some assistance in some form or another from the U.S. Nor do I know of some country that doesn't import or export to or from the U.S.
In fact I am sure that given the right circumstances the U.S. could and would stand on its own and would not collapse upon itself if wares were to dwindle down we have always been resourceful and have always figured a way to come out on top. (not always with the use of the military)
And what issues might the U.S. has that we must solve on our own that we are not already tackling. You must be specific. And don't give me the song and dance about starving children in the Appalachians or the problems we continue to have with race, gun control or what ever. Those certainly are all relevant issues but you know what they are all being addressed.
If you're angry about our involvement in Iraq, me too. I didn't vote for the war monger in the White House. Unfortunately there weren't enough of like minded individuals to get him out.
In fact I blame the democratic party because they couldn't come up with somebody who didn't appear to be a mirror image of the President (wealth and background) and was strong in his convictions. Any more all the polititions all say the same things they just twist what they say to sound like it came from the party line.
Go ahead give me a lesson...It's obvious your background is German if you're not already writing from there, so go ahead and tell me your thoughts. Oh, by the way where would Germany be today if not for the U.S.?

Indeed, as compared to Castro's leadership, which is an outright dictatorship.

I think they mean post World War Two. If I'm correct in that, then the answer would have to be, along with the rest of Western Europe, a whole hell of a lot worse off than it is now. The Marshall plan effectively saved Western Europe financially, and politically from Communism as well.

Sure. Thanks for that. It has been repaid. The end. The US failed particularely with Germany though, since our country was divided for 40 years and is still not completely healed from this division, even 16 years after the reunification. Anyway, whatever the US did after WW2, does not give them Carte Blanche to do whatever they want.

Not really...
After ousting USA's butt-boy Batista who essentially ran the US's own little Caribbean brothel, Castro actually asked the US for help, but was turned down and forced into the arms of the SU, since a lot of the actual "casinos" being closed were owned by US citizens. Can't have uppity revolutionaries closing down Red-Blooded American whorehouses, can we? All manner of scum may get ideas.
Perhaps a history book would fit well between the propaganda pamphlets?

The real question we should be asking is, where would they hold the trial? If it's in Cuba, then Fidel wins, hands down. If it's almost anywhere else, Fidel gets to look like an idiot, hands down.
