1. What is your gender? (please limit to male/female, whichever you identify with most) Male

2. What is your age? 31

3. How long have you been gaming? Since 1983 Go TI-99/4A! w00t

4. Favorite genre/system/etc.? My favorite would be role-playing and quest games. I also like puzzle games, civilization simulators, real-time tactics games and recently City of Heroes became my first MMORPG since I'm a comic book nerd.

5. How many hours a week would you say you spend on video games? Five to twenty, depending on how busy the week is

MALE ONLY QUESTIONS

1. What gender/type of people/age group do you think dominate the gaming scene? Guys. Female gamers are out there, but they're scarcer. I think it tends to be youth-heavy, too, because of time constraints. I can't play like I could before I got married.

2. What kind of games do you think female gamers play? The Sims, RPGs.

3. Do you think that there are any "male-oriented" games that females don't play? Presumably the Leisure Suit Larry series and the recent Playboy Hugh Hefner simulator. Anyone remember the Infocom text adventure game called "The Leather Goddesses of Phobos"?

4. Do you think that there are any "female-oriented" games that males don't play? None come to mind.

2. What kind of games do you think female gamers play? RPG/MMORPG.

3. Do you think that there are any "male-oriented" games that females don't play? Mostly war games, it seems, though there is a member of the ESUS forums that contradicts this. Other than that, I think it's a matter of taste.

4. Do you think that there are any "female-oriented" games that males don't play? Maybe, but I'd try them if I thought they might be a good game.

1. What is your gender? Female

2. What is your age? 15

3. How long have you been gaming? Since I was probly nine

4. Favorite genre/system/etc.? PC games, Real life, one or two you shoot stuff on.

5. How many hours a week would you say you spend on video games? Some weeks I'd say five-eight hours, some weeks four or less.

FEMALE ONLY QUESTIONS

1. Do you feel that females make up a significant part of the gaming community? 50-50

2. What do you think of the games marketed specifically towards girls? (i.e. Barbie games, Nancy Drew, Dora the Explorer, Mary Kate and Ashley) Nancy Drew was fun but I grew up. Barbie's for the younger gamers, like ten and under along with the Olson twin games. Dora's way too young for girls over eight, don't you think?

3. Do you enjoy these types of games? Nancy Drew was fun and Sims are really cool if that's what you mean.

4. What do you think of games marketed specifically towards males? (i.e. Leisure Suit Larry, The Guy Game, Playboy Mansion, DOA Beach Volleyball, BMX XXX) They have their games, girls have theirs.

5. Do you see yourself playing more "male" or "female" games? I like to play the games that both genders can play but I have one game that's kind of boyish about the civil war.

6. Do you experience any prejudice, sexual harassment, or special attention when and if you socialize with other gamers? No. Don't normally play with many other people.

1. What is your gender? (please limit to male/female, whichever you identify with most)

Male

2. What is your age?

3. How long have you been gaming? Almost 20 years

4. Favorite genre/system/etc.? Dynasty Warriors series, PS2

5. How many hours a week would you say you spend on video games? Varies greatly, perhaps as much as 40 or as little as 2.

MALE ONLY QUESTIONS

1. What gender/type of people/age group do you think dominate the gaming scene?

Males typically dominate; perhaps in a 70/30 split on average, but age groups have grown with gamers themselves. Now more and more mid to late 20-somethings have grown up with video games and continue playing. Increasingly other groups beyond "nerds" are playing video games, with the advent of party-style online and multiplayer games.

2. What kind of games do you think female gamers play? Varies greatly, I've seen action and fighting game fans, RPG fans, Sim fans, etc.

3. Do you think that there are any "male-oriented" games that females don't play?
Perhaps some are more likely to alienate than others. Many of those that would are simply bad games in general (think "the guy game", it sucked, so EVERYONE avoided it). To say that females don't play is probably false, but its possible that the vast majority of female gamers will avoid certain games.

4. Do you think that there are any "female-oriented" games that males don't play? Perhaps some of the "Barbie" games and such.

I am 28, male play mainly rpgs and strategy but also some FP shooters.

I play between ZERO and up to 20 hours a week, really depends if I go out on the weekends, I have been gaming since i got a atari at age 5.

I think the number or gamers in the 20 to 30 range is very under represented. WE grew up with games in arcades and have a much more refined sense of a "good" game. Whereas the younger generation tends to flock to "fad" type games.

I think we do have a large amount of female gamers around, case in point the sims. 90% female IMO (which i think is personally, one of the most over rated games OF ALL TIME!!!) Another example with a large female base would be world of warcraft, my guild base is about 20% female, which is pretty large for any game...

Examples of games you dont see females playing are counterstrike

2. What is your age? 20

3. How long have you been gaming? 13-14 years

4. Favorite genre/system/etc.? RPG and puzzles; mostly the stuff youz need to use your brain. As for the system: NINTENDO (since Gameboy classic; always have been, always will be)

5. How many hours a week would you say you spend on video games? Too many. Let's leave it with that...

MALE ONLY QUESTIONS

1. What gender/type of people/age group do you think dominate the gaming scene? Good question. Boys/men ranging from 13 to 40. Type... Does that matter?!

2. What kind of games do you think female gamers play? Another good one. I think more like simulations, puzzles; you know, not the violent/sports stuff (ohoh, feminists will kill me for that...)

3. Do you think that there are any "male-oriented" games that females don't play? Well, I don't think sports and FPS sell for women too much, but there are always exceptions.

4. Do you think that there are any "female-oriented" games that males don't play? OK, I would never play stuff like Animal Crossing or the Barbie-series, but alas, I don't know if girls would... Frankly, I don't know.

FEMALE ONLY QUESTIONS

1. Do you feel that females make up a significant part of the gaming community? Not the majority of course, but yes. If we had some more girls that actually would give it a try, I'm sure we'd have a bigger %

2. What do you think of the games marketed specifically towards girls? I think most of them are stupid. Girls would like most games that guys like but I guess younger girls would be interested.

3. Do you enjoy these types of games? No.

4. What do you think of games marketed specifically towards males? (i.e. Leisure Suit Larry, The Guy Game, Playboy Mansion, DOA Beach Volleyball, BMX XXX) Well, boys will be boys even though I think some games are absolutely disgusting.

5. Do you see yourself playing more "male" or "female" games? 'Male' games because the 'Female' games are completely pointless and boring.

6. Do you experience any prejudice, sexual harassment, or special attention when and if you socialize with other gamers? Not exactly. It's an uncommon sight but gaming isn't like tackle football where a girl would obviously receive some negative attention. Thankfully, I've never had to experience any type of sexist remarks.

5. How many hours a week would you say you spend on video games?
Oh, I'd say close to 15 hours a week

FEMALE ONLY QUESTIONS

1. Do you feel that females make up a significant part of the gaming community? I feel as though are numbers are growing...although females do seem to be more casual gamers...

2. What do you think of the games marketed specifically towards girls? (i.e. Barbie games, Nancy Drew, Dora the Explorer, Mary Kate and Ashley) I feel as though they are ridiculous. Using these stereotypes in the video game industry is like forcing girls to only play with dolls and not Legos when they are growing up. I think that many of the younger female gamers are drawn to video games because they are something that is more male-oriented, and games allow them to break out of the girly-girl shell and do what they want, if only while the game is on.

3. Do you enjoy these types of games? Um, I enjoy watching my fiancee roll his eyes when I point them out in the store, but even that gets old after about seven seconds.

4. What do you think of games marketed specifically towards males? (i.e. Leisure Suit Larry, The Guy Game, Playboy Mansion, DOA Beach Volleyball, BMX XXX) I would like to see female counterparts to these games, if they are going to do one, do the other. The media in any form and sex appeal seem to go hand in hand these days, so it's only a matter of time.

5. Do you see yourself playing more "male" or "female" games?
I play 'em all. I own everything from Resident Evil to Animal Crossing, from Soul Calibur II to Ocarina of Time. I don't know how easy it is to put games in a gender role. Who is to say that a game like Final Fantasy or Animal Crossing is more female or male?

6. Do you experience any prejudice, sexual harassment, or special attention when and if you socialize with other gamers? The guys hate that I can beat them at Star Wars Trivial Pursuit...if you beat them enough then they'll respect you, as long as when they beat you, you don't tease them about beating a helpless girl or something stupid like that. Of course, this might just be the group I tend to hang around with.

2. What is your age? 13

3. How long have you been gaming?Since I was five. My uncle bought me a SNES with Donkey Kong on it, and that's when the magic started...

4. Favorite genre/system/etc.? My favorite genre is the RPG. I'll take Final Fantasy IX(In my opinion, the best in the series) over Halo 2 any day. My favorite system would have to be the Computer(due to it's seemingly endless supply of games), but in consoles it's either the PS2(because of it's RPG's) or the Gamecube(Yes, the Gamecubedoes have good games, and it's not just for sissies. Yay Skies of Arcadia: Legends!).

5. How many hours a week would you say you spend on video games? [u]Uhhh...tough one. I go down to the mall to play at "Twister", an internet-cafe type thing dedicated to computer games alot(I'm going to my friends B-day there tomorrow), but I play for different times each week. Sometimes I play videogames (basically when I get a new RPG) for 17 hours a day, other times I go for 5 days without even seeing one. On average, though, I'd say about 20 hours(40 ish if you count NS ;))

MALE ONLY QUESTIONS

1. What gender/type of people/age group do you think dominate the gaming scene? Late teens, early adults. While children still play a large role, the original gamers from the late 80's early '90s have grown up.

2. What kind of games do you think female gamers play? Any, but the majority play games such as "The Sims", "Super Monkey Ball", etc. Not all(I know a few girls who would love to kick your ass in Call of Duty), but most.

3. Do you think that there are any "male-oriented" games that females don't play? Not really. There are alot of "male-oriented" games that girls play. You ever hear of the "Frag Dolls"? They're all girls, yet they own men at games such as Halo, Counter-strike, etc.

4. Do you think that there are any "female-oriented" games that males don't play? Uhhhh...I'm thinking Mary-kate and Ashley games, Barbie games, etc, but those are for little girls. Alot of people say the Sims is for girls, but I like to play the Sims.

1) Female
2) the age of a woman should never be reveiled
3) for 10 years
4) I really like RPG's and DDR is good for a work out. My favorite games are Xenosaga, Soul Calibur II and FFX
5) somewhere around 15, depending on weither or not papers are due.

Female answers:
1) no, I do not.
2) The games marketed towards girls are made with no actual plot and normally is corny as crap
3) those games suck
4) adult games, like adult movies, are the private veiwing of the person and/or friends. I don't agree with them, but if people buy them, no one is going to stop making them
5) more male games, since most of the games I do enjoy depict scantily clad wemon...
6) yes I do, most men become super-perverts when I'm at the arcade. And most don't think I can play worth a crap, which is at my advantage since I can always beat their butts...

Dude.

2. What is your age?
33. Shut up.

3. How long have you been gaming?
Since Pong. I don't remember how old I was. 6, 7 maybe? I didn't buy a system of my very own until GT came out, but I always had roommates who had one.

4. Favorite genre/system/etc.?
Playstation. Racing games. Almost exclusively. Evolution games are kinda cool, Artificial Life type simulators. I used to work at a record store and have a ton of promos, so the Monster Rancher games are a blast to me because of the volumnes of monsters I can make. I like WWII and earlier airplane games. I loved Gladius and would play a similar game in a heartbeat, but don't know of any.

5. How many hours a week would you say you spend on video games?
0-40, depending on if a game came out or not.

MALE ONLY QUESTIONS

1. What gender/type of people/age group do you think dominate the gaming scene?
I'd say dudes, but I know a lot of chicks who not only play, but kick ass. There's one who will not only beat you at Street Fighter, but humiliate you.
[edit, didn't answer all the question]-Middle class college age dudes. Kids make up a good portion, but with the rise of XBox and PS you see it more towards adults under 35. As my generation passes 35 that number will go up. We started this thing, we're goin' to our grave with it...

2. What kind of games do you think female gamers play?
I've always thought of puzzle games as 'girlfriend games', the games your girlfriend plays when your insensitive ass drags her to the arcade (perhaps as revenge for taking you shopping....mmmm, stereotypes....), but that might be just to tease a buddy of mine who lives for puzzle games. I actually like them, too. Doesn't stop me from an easy burn, though.

3. Do you think that there are any "male-oriented" games that females don't play?
Whats that beach volleyball game? Dead or Alive? Probably not that so much. Or Leisure Suit Larry...

4. Do you think that there are any "female-oriented" games that males don't play?
Anything involving Barbie.

FEMALE ONLY QUESTIONS

1. Do you feel that females make up a significant part of the gaming community?I would say about 30-35% in general. Mostly thanks to more social titles.

2. What do you think of the games marketed specifically towards girls? (i.e. Barbie games, Nancy Drew, Dora the Explorer, Mary Kate and Ashley)I think they are a pig-headed egotistical male middle-manager's idea of what girls are like. I find them offensive, and having actually tried a couple, incredibly dull and boring, missing the game quality

3. Do you enjoy these types of games? No. If anything, seeing a new one arrive makes me cringe

4. What do you think of games marketed specifically towards males? (i.e. Leisure Suit Larry, The Guy Game, Playboy Mansion, DOA Beach Volleyball, BMX XXX)Very much like the felmale games, these are marketed towards a steriotype that either does not exist, or is limited to only the most immature. What am I saying, these are males after all.

5. Do you see yourself playing more "male" or "female" games? That is a tough one. I do like action when I am in a mood, but mostly I drift towards the online, social environments which are neither

6. Do you experience any prejudice, sexual harassment, or special attention when and if you socialize with other gamers?Yes and no. Not so much in normal multiplayer games, or those with people I know. However, in larger online environments, there can be a certain amount of condascending attitudes towards my ability to match a male - at least until I kindly murderise him *smile*
