Bias in Media

While reading an article in Thursday’s paper about if bowling is considered a sport, I was both shocked and disgusted at claim that the writer of the article made.

In the article the wrote the following “Is it a sport debate has the league players pretty steamed at Guay’s club Let’s Bowl. All but two staff members said bowling wasn’t a sport.”

You see, as a current employee of Let’s Bowl, I know for a fact that is not case. There is currently a large portion of the staff that bowls competitively, both bowls in a numbers of leagues that we have, or take part tournaments. Some staff members go even so far as donating their time to coaching YBC, which is the youth bowling league. So naturally you can understand my surprise when according to the article that only two of my fellow employee’s said that they thought that bowling was sport.

Furthermore, at no point was I ever consulted, or most of my coworkers, as to our opinion on the mater. However in the article, it at least to me showed biased opinion, by stating all but two people were of a particular opinion when not all the staff were polled. I was of the understanding that member’s media were to present issues in an unbiased and fair manner.

Am I over reacting here

No, I don't think you're overreacting. The media wants the story. As with pretty much anyone else, they are going to distort it one way or the other. A few weeks ago, my school had bomb threats in consecutive days. We made the news.

"___ high school has certainly been dearly afflicted, with its thousands of students..."

Funny, since we've only got 400. 800, if you add in the middle school.

Most news organizations pull stories out of their ass. Some here are of the opinion that only Fox does that, but it's true of even the New York Times (in fact, they had a major scandal involving just that problem).

Have to make a reputation, you know.

Reporters on CNN have done this. Dan Rather did it. I'm not surprised.

republican governments in the US mean tremendous windfalls to the corporations that control the media in the US and the execs who run the corporations.

What corporation, or Republican, pray tell, told Dan Rather to use forged documents to broadcast a lie?

As Bill Keller put it, after having rid the Times of 'Jayson' Blair and firing Howell Raines over Blair's inventing of sources on his non-political irrelevent stories (which the Paper of Record was duty bound to record):

"[the lesson of this scandal is] don't hire lying sociopaths."

It's funny that you (and many others) say the documents were false. They didn't even prove anything; they just ended it, and made Rather apologize.

I've had some interesting run-ins with reporters. Most of the bad things happened with reporters that were either pathological liars, or were easily bribed to lie. The problem is that it seems more of those sort of people are getting hired than others...

No, you aren't overreacting.

Threaten to sue them.

I don't know if I can, my name wasn't actually mention. I part of the staff, and he group all the staff together as have a particular opinion went in truth that wasn't the case.

I have no idea as to what legal ground i have to work with.

Are you saying the documents didn't prove anything, or that those accusing Rather of using forged documents didn't prove anything?

Oooh. Don't go there. Left-wing internet conspiracy buffs are already whispering that Karl Rove was behind feeding the documents to CBS.

I am not saying I believe it, but it would have been pretty clever, huh? :D
