My bad...your bad?

I have noticed a lot of tension on General lately, with some people chaffing at mod rulings and others getting kind of snippy towards one another...

Now, I appreciate the job that mods do, and I always looked at those who complained about their rulings as pointless whiners. Nonetheless, I have a terrible addiction and it is this: I am addicted to defying authority. I just can't help myself! I try, I really do! I itch, I chafe, I comply, but in the end, I must rebel! If there was a cure, I'd seek it! So sometimes, I can understand why some complain...

I have this obsessive need to foment revolution. I know its bad, but this obsession is often triggered by certain events. Lately it seems that threads are being locked more and more quickly, and for less reason than when I first came on NS.

Part of this obsession has to do with lack of power. I know there was some movement to have a 'NS Union', but I don't think that really accomplished much...I'd like to see NSers in dialogue with mods to help shape the future of General. I believe there would be less 'testing' of the boundaries if we had some say in how General 'feels'.

Does anyone else feel like things are getting kind of strange around here?

I hardly notice the mods. I figure deleted posts are ones I wouldn't want to read anyway.

Hmmm...I've been reading the Union thread...it's a little heavy on the 'proletariat' language, but it seems like this is actually their proposition too...

But would the Union have any actual power? Or it is just hot air?
Eh-oh

Oh Sinuhue, how is it over there in Female?

The weather is fine!

Female doesn't really exist as a place, but Dildo does. It's in Newfoundland.

Yeah, that cracked me up. Just a tad dramatic. :p

From what I understood, it was a good try, but the general consensus was that they would fail to get anything started.
I think it turned out to be a self-fulfilling prophesy.

Hmmm...sounds like how most unions are going these days.... :(

This site is run by Max Berry, for his purposes. It is not a democratic institution, it is not a popularist movement. The mods, as I understand it, are working under two sets of guide lines. One from Max, the other from the hosts of the forum, Jolt. (Mods, please correct me if I am wrong.) They will look at sugestions, at user ideas, but if any of these go against the guide lines (Swastikas is a good example from the recent past), then the gude lines will prevail.
As such any union could only be a consultative body, that would, in reality, not do anything particularly useful. The mods monitor our posts anyway, and any good ideas they tend to pick up on.

That's kind of what I figured. Is there a particular place to post suggestions? Is there a stickied post for that anywhere?

You've lost me.

The job of a moderator is to moderate the posts made in the forums and to ensure that the rules, those that exist, are followed. To do this they have to actually read the posts that are made. Suggestions and ideas that occur in the ordinary run of the mill posting will be picked up on by the moderators eventually.
If you want to make a specific suggestion though, you can always post it in the Moderation forum.

I don't really want to clog up the Moderation forum with suggestions...

So create one thread, and just add your suggestions to that. Subscribe to it, so that you can easily return to it whenever you want to make a new suggestion.

Man, you can't ever tell when I'm making a joke unless I put a :p before or after it. That's okay, I have a "unique" sense of humor. :p <-----

I have no desire to rebel on NS, but a great deal of the things I find humorous are not allowed, so I sometimes skirt the rules.

Trend threads, for example. It is damn near impossible for me to avoid posting a good spin off thread.
