Ah! The day when everyone is Irish! I'd just like to extend my best wishes to all, and my best wishes for peace in Northern Ireland.

Now that that's aside!

Eat! Drink! And be merry!

Don't forget to wear green either! Tis good luck! (That and people will pinch you if you don't!)

Peace! :D

Why does everyone (especially Americans) kick up so much fuss? Granted, its an excuse to get pissed, but why bother dressing up in green? We all hope for peace in Northern Ireland, which is nearer now the IRA have been dealt such a blow. All now that needs to happen is for the idiot Unionists to be neutered. A pint of Guiness for everyone!

Yes, I know. The Russian, Irish, French, and some of my Polish ancestry(including my last name) comes from my father, but my mothers side(VERY Polish with Syrian(My great-grandmother is Syrian. I said Is cuz shes not dead) thrown in) is probably more Polish. We eat Polish food(as well as arab), sing Polish songs, etc.

Yeah, but how many drinking holidays have a parade, eh? It's a big deal here cause back when it started, something like 1/3 of people were either Irish immigrants or had parents who were, but nowadays, it's just the hooch. :)

I feel so left out here in Boston, everyone is either Irish or part Irish, I'm German/English (an offshoot of the Gotha line, yes that one, but parted long before it became that important) and Scottish/French. I don't drink, but I do wear a silly hat everywhere I go!

Today - everyone is Irish!!!
So, pretend and have fun!

This morning I went to school with a orange shirt and a green shirt overtop. Then people were like
"Hey your wearing green yay!"
so I took both of them off and wore a black shirt all day instead, I got pinched once (amazingly it was by a girl I like) but on the other hand I pinched everyone who was wearing green and said. "Where's your green? Where's your green?"

Then a friend wrote in black ink on the back of my hand Green? so I wrote on the other hand Got, put them together and you get Got Green?

My friend wore a green shirt that said in black letters Ireland. He told me he only wore it because he supports the IRA (or at least I think it was IRA)

Are they experimenting with staggered closing times or is everyone chucked out at around the same time?

I just realised that I have been wearing an orange t-shirt all day.

Not out of choice, it is my last clean one.

No, there was some discussion about trying out staggered closing times but it didn't really come too much - I think it might have been viewed as just drawing more custom towards those staying open later. There has however been something of an anti-drunken violence campaign going on here over the past year or so.

The last couple of years there has been a cops vs. students/culchies/spides riot outside the same bar, and this looks set to be institutionalised and traditionalised again this year. Hopefully not, but we shall see what happens.

I see the logic, but it seems a better solution then tipping everyone out at the same time (though I'm not really knowledgable on this kinda stuff).

Culchies - rural dwellers?
spides - bit like our scallies?

Sorry don't know much about N Irish terms, I have heard them before in the dim and distant past but have forgotten what they mean.

My bad, I D day in Ireland is 6 December (1921) right? National Holliday is St. Patrick's Day.

It's one in the same here so thats why I said it. Sorry about that.
