is less spam and copycatting. Really. It's getting QUITE out of hand, and it's annoying.

If you REALLY feel the need to make a spate of parody threads, there IS a spam forum. There are also quite lovely chat programs to have these in.

Copycat threads with no content are spam and will be locked or moved to the Spam forum. Social spam is still spam. Jolt has perfectly acceptable Spam and Chat forums. Go there. Please.

Well, it got everyone's attention, didn't it?

Seriously -- I like fun as much as the next person, but the serious discussions are getting drowned out in volumes of threads that get perhaps 12 responses because they are all parodies.

For the record, what's a parody?

True ... very true. I will admit that a well thought and truly funny parody can be a thing of beauty, but it is annoying trying to sort through 8 pages of mindless drivel to find the conversation I was in an hour ago.

I really don't want to have to subscribe to every thread I post in. :(

For the record, what's a parody?

Example:
thread 1: Free the Slavs!
thread 2: Enslave the Slavs!
thread 3: Free the Slobs!

Example 2:
thread 1: what we need is a matriarchy!
thread 2. what we need is a patriarchy!
thread 3. what we need is a minarchy!
thread 4. what we need is a aristachy!
thread 5: what we need is an anarchy!

Where the copycat threads had absolutely no content other than fluff.

Awww come on. That one had great potential. :D

I don't think the people in the Jolt Spam Forum would like it if we kept dropping a bunch of fad threads on them they don't get. Then again, I sometimes doubt the people down there even have personalities or feelings.

What makes you think that the majority of General readers are all that fond of them? I'm not talking high-post-count nations here, mind you - anyone can spam their postcount to astronomical levels. I'm talking the people who actually respond to non-spammy threads. Do you think the mods would be so busy policing General if people weren't telling us about all this stuff?

The Spam forum is for SPAM. I don't really care what they think about it.

Jolt has perfectly acceptable Spam and Chat forums.

I'd hardly call them acceptable, according to NS' terms, that is... but everyone should take spam there, the reason General has gone down hill is because of spam and copy catting. It's a shame.

The problem as I see it is that one poster's spam is another poster's considered statement or query. I have no doubt the mods hear complaints and respond to them - but I've seen threads, and started threads, that were consigned to the rubbish tip of 'spam' even though there was pronounced interest in them on the part of my fellow 'General' NSers.

I've long suspected that certain people have actively sought to suppress threads that they personally find offensive - not because they may or may not be spam, but because the views stated, or the questions asked, offended some part of their personal sensibilities, and using the pretense of 'spam', are privately contacting mods whom they know to be 'friendly' to their particular point of view, in the hopes of precipitating the sort of unilateral actions that seem to befall many a clever, witty, or inordinately 'liberal' thread.

Of course, this is all just supposition. I expect to be mocked and chided, of course - but I just thought I'd weigh in.

Doesn't one have to be uphill before one goes downhill??
