Cute yet dangerous animals...

I was recently reminded of my one "fatal" flaw... that I have this big soft spot for all kinds of animals.

I do, at certain times, like to think myself a rational man that enjoys deep discussion over interesting philosophical ideals. If I recall correctly, my personality type is INTP (introverted, intuitive, thinking & perceiving) so I tend to approach things with a certain sort of calm, logical manner.

Except when it comes to animals... particularly dangerous ones.

Yes, I'm an utter retard when it comes to lions, bears and anything else with fur and rather large teeth.

I'm the sort of person who upon spotting a polar bear would not think of reaching for a rifle or running away. Instead, I'd be the guy running towards it squealing "Awww... wook at da cute widdle beary-weary!!!" and trying to give it a hug or pat it.

Same goes for lions, cougars, tigers, etc. Even while being mauled to death, I'm sure you'd hear "Bad kitty-witty! No treat for you!" in amongst the sound of tearing flesh.

Speaking of other animals that you're not supposed to touch, I have to literally sit on my hands to stop myself from reaching out and patting seeing-eye dogs or those beagles you see in airports that sniff out contraband. I've been told that as "working dogs" it is wrong to try to pat them while they're working and that is such a struggle for me.

So...

The point of all this was to ask, is anyone else like this? Maybe it isn't animals, perhaps there is something else that changes you from being a normal, sane & intelligent person to some retarded monkey... maybe it is cars? Food?

It'd just be interesting to see what other people post.

I like animas but I would probally shoot a dangerous wild animal (short of a coyote). But it is important that you make this sure that animal can be tranquilized or trapped first. THat was the case with that tiger in Southern California. They had to kill it because if they shot it with a tranquilizer it would have taken 10 minutes to kick in. In that time the tiger could of run into morning traffic or charged at the people from animal controll. Plus the owner should of notified the authorities about the missing tiger.

Also, it is good that you don't pet those customs (sorry if spelling is wrong) and drug dogs and more because it really does mess of there job. So thankyou for your new self controll.

Finally, no, I don't have your problem but just remember that some animals can be cute and nice and some are meant to be working or in the wild. THose in the wild can kill people (tigers, lions, Aligators, allpaca's, Dick Deney, etc).

I am a Siamese cat/kitten magnet. I'm not kidding. I have my own 15 year old Siamese named Sara. Now Sara follows me around everywhere and is always there right beside me. But one time I was in Key West FL, and I was at Hemingway house, when a Siamese cat there approached me and started to rub me. I've also been to a friend house whos 2 year old Siamese has given birth to a litter of kittens, the kittens love me!

Sometimes I wonder if animals can pick up whether a person will hurt them or be nice to them. I think they can.

I think they can as well... although I doubt the polar bear will care terribly much about the strange pink thing in front of it that is about to become a snack...

i like animals a lot too, we once had a class which involved snakes and other reptiles, most girls were just standing as far away from the snakes as they could, but i was holding one, it was very cute, also a little lizard wanted to crawl in my neck, funny little thing that was :D

To The Sensitive,Intelligent and Probably Too Impulsive To Have No Scars, Emperor Salamander VII,

How I found this post was that it was listed on my 'home page' and the word 'Animals' caught my attention.

I believe you are not inherently 'introverted', if in fact we define that word the same way. Introverted to me - simply means shy, lacking the confidence to do anything to draw attention to one's self, timid, cautious...

It seems that you throw all caution to the wind (God - I hate that expression) when you see a cute cuddly big brown bear that would charge towards you without any provocation and maul and tear your beautiful body until there was nothing left of it but scraps of spline and a few assorted arteries. Does that sound like my definition of introverted to you? Of course it is the way I interpret that word - you might have a different viewpoint.
It appears to me that your personality, your very soul, is fighting your mind's perception of yourself. It's saying - Go for it - look at that cute fluffy woodjie woodjie lion (that hasn't eaten in three weeks) over there. He wont hurt me - oh you love me Mr. Panther, don't leap on me from that rock - don't you see Mr. Polar Bear - I'm your friend, you know that, you don't want to hurt me..aaaaahhhhhhhhaaaaaahhhhhh!

I too am like you, though I only consider myself to be 'mildly introverted' when I have to talk about myself with total strangers - usually in a one on one situation. Unfortunately for me (and those that are forced to listen), thoughts that come in to my brain immediately leave thru my mouth without the thought process as the gatekeeper. Otherwise, even though my instincts are aware of caution, my intense need for a 'kinship' with even the most dangerous of animals causes a lot of stupid useless injuries.

I am a person that cries at roadkill. I can't help thinking that the squashed racoon I just saw on the side of the road, has children looking for it - crying Mommy Mommy where are you Mommy.

In December while driving west on Route 80 in Pa., early in the am - so it was still dark) I hit a poor little bobcat while I was driving at least 80 miles an hour. I was devastated. Well obviously not as much as Mr. Bobcat After pulling off the highway, I did what I thought was the 'right thing' and called 911. They came - they smirked - they mentioned that I was grossly over reacting, that 'it happens all the time', I 'shouldn't be so sensitive', 'it's no big deal' and if i 'act this way with a tupid animal - thank God it wasn't someones child', and 'Oh - you might want to get the car checked out before you continue your trip back to Chicago - it's pretty messed up - but - it could have been worse - darn wild animals - I bet that bobcat's going to cost you about 2 grand to repair that perty little car you got here'.

I was unable to get out of my car for about 7 hours.

Because they are 'animals' with brains about 1/4 of what most humans have (with the exception being the Pa State trooper) - Our 'nurturing thing' kicks in - I guess.

All I can say to you is - Got Kids?

This story reminds me of dumb people that feed the Alligators in Florida. Natural instinct of an Alligator is to run from humans. Now if you start feeding them like some idiots do. Then they come use to humans. Then eventually they bite the hand that feeds them. Alligators think humans are snacks. There was another story today of a gator eating a man in central Florida. Why? because some dumb ass humans thought it was ok to feed them. I guess maybe its natures way of thinning out the gene pool.

I consider any "working" animal, such as a seeing-eye dog or drug-sniffer, my social peer, thus I am able to inhibit the "reach out and pet it" impulse. If I were to meet a wild carnivore, I would consider myself an unintentional trespasser in its domain and give it a wide berth, knowing that I am unlikely to be harmed as long as I behave neither as prey nor rival. Any very young animal, however, causes me to turn to butter: when my cat was a kitten, I'd frequently let her use my hand as a plaything until it started to sieze up and go numb. Why? Well, all I could think at the time was, "awww, how precious!" and didn't notice that she was really dealing me some damage until I slowly noticed through the fog that had fallen upon my brain that my hand was gray, numb, and had veins popping out all over. If she did any such thing now, however, I'd be quite annoyed. I am generally affectionate with adult domesticated animals, but I don't completely lose my senses over them.

And yes, if a bear cub were to start chewing on my leg, I'd be crippled for life by the time I got around to asking it to stop. I know.

Same here. I have a definite weakness for fuzzy, furry, tiny, cute and the like. But I was able to stay steady. If I didn't, I'd probably be on life support; assuming I can afford it. :D

Me thinks you need to read more 'Animals' books to find out which one is dangerous..

I mean, bears are no doubt cute and all. But I've read enough animal books to tell me that their all not that furry and nice after all.

Wow.. Small Blue spotted octopus! Cute.. Lemme touch..

Well, I thought I made it fairly clear that I understood these animals were dangerous... it is just that I lose that sense of self-preservation when viewing certain animals.
