How "fit" do you think you are?

The Lightning Star

Seeing how obesity and not-fitness is on the rise all over the First World(while starvation is on the rise in the Third World, and in the Second World nothing is happening), I am wondering, How fit do you think you are? I mean fit as in in shape, etc. And please, be honest. It's not like that many people actually know you in Real Life(Although there may be a few cases...)

"and in the second world nothing is happening." I have my quote of the week.

But me, personally, I'm overweight, but not obese. I could stand to lose about 20 pounds, which is a lot on a generally small person, but I'm 6'2 and very broad shouldered.

I am the perfect weight, but since I'm such a lazy ass (with probably most of the rest of NS regulars...) I am somewhat out of shape athletically.

Yeah, I guess I should choose a bit out of shape, because I need to lose 20 pounds after my last pregnancy...but I have built up some pretty impressive upper body strenght packing kids and groceries around...I can't bench press much, but I can yank your arm out of its socket in a flash:)

No lie here, but my excellent metobolizm can just keep me from gaining weight during this god-forsaken season some call winter. I eat a ton of junk food, like, a half a box of ice cream. I'd say I definatly need to work out more, but that will come in spring when it gets warmer. Bottem line, I'm sorta fit, but you wouldn't want to see me in speedos in the winter. When it starts to get warmer, I am probally more fit than a lot of other people.

My two cents on child obesity: FORCE P.E. CLASSES! It actually scares me how many people skip out on it. If kids had at least the exersise from gym two times a week, than it would at least not be rising as much as it is now.

I'm a bit outta shape, but I'm better off than when I came here to Panama 1 1/2 years ago. I used to be this 5 foot "husky" kid, now I am 5,9 big kid. I am about 20 pounds overweight, but I am broad shoulders and tall for my age( I am 13 :/)

Actually, though, now that I think of it, I don't know how many pounds I am above where I should be...

I'm something like 135-150(I haven't checked in a while O_o), but I'm lacking in Muscles. I am an excelent sprinter(in the top of my class), but anything longer than 100 meters will tire me out.

I've never had any trouble with my weight, however little I exercise. However, I have pretty bad stamina. I'm fit enough to walk to school without getting out of breath, but even a short run will knacker me out.

The strange thing is, since taking a desk job - I feel less 'in shape'... but I weigh less than ever. Im softer than I used to be (see evidence in 'Pasties' thread), but I weigh less... hmm. At least I have snowboarding and wakeboarding to keep me in shape - though I must admit, I didnt get to do either nearly as often as Id have liked over the last few years. I think this summer Ill take up a few other sports, maybe get into league play ultimate, or get back into baseball.

ditto. broad shoulders, kinda big but not obese, could do with loosing a bit of weight, but am about 6ft, not 6'2 :(
used to be proper fit a few years ago - used to be a really good swimmer... used to swim for my county and even got entered into an international gala once:)
also used to sail, windsurf and stuff like that. unfortunatley i caught gastroenteroritis after capcising near a sewage outlet and was ill for quite a while, then shortly after i broke my arm in a car crash and basically was unable to excersise for about a year in total between the two. i could never get back into the swimming and just got fatter as the years went by :( :(

I consider myself to be very fit. I think my generation (I'm 30) was better off when it came to fitness because we were still allowed to do fun things like play football without pads or play kill the carrier or things like that. We spent all of our time playing outdoors whether it was too cold or too hot or perfect outside. Everyone I know with kids now keeps them indoors when the weather is extreme and wouldn't let them play tackle football without pads on a bet. Hell, my nephews aren't allowed near a bicycle without more padding than an attack dog trainer.

I took a fitness test...apparently got a 23year old's body...although the weight thing was off. I'm really inflexible, but my stamina's ok and pretty good strength, for a girl. Never could run fast, turning in feet :-/ but I'd be walking up that hill with no problems (bonus points to any who can recognise the song quote plus change). I'm usually back within the first group on the sponsored walk across the downs. Guess climbing the Great Wall has its uses.

I'm pretty skinny (5'10" and ~130 lbs.), but I'm fairly soft, except for my elbows. I very rarely get any exercise, but I've recently determined that I can still run 2 miles in the snow at somebody else's pace. I usually eat well, even though I've never needed to. I haven't been sick in at least 5 years.

I can't wait for spring, though, so I can get back to ultimate and climbing.

6,1 weigh 70k (around 11 stone) attend the gym about 3-4 times a week, can lift 60k on my arms, and about 100k on benchpress, have a toned stomach (when it isn't full :P), can run for about 12 minutes at a steady pace.

Running is probably my downfall, as a result I intend to concentrate on it more from now on.

Not really fit but, alot fitter than most. :)

Oh and I am very broad shouldered. :)

I did almost the same thing. I hit one of those curbs that just goes straight up instead of being sloped and smashed my face into the handle bars. Split my lip, but I thought it was funny as hell and so did my brothers. I was like nine or so. I also ran into a house once.

Believe me or not, I'm quite fit. I lift four days a week and run the other three. Above average. I do arm curls, press ups, and sit ups daily (100 reps of each just before I go to sleep), go running every thursday morning, have rugby training once a week, swim once a week and play matches whenever I can. I don't smoke, I don't do drugs, I hardly drink much anymore, and I abhor junk food. Despite all that, I could still do with losing a stone to help actually last a full match without slowing up towards the end.

Considering I look 30-35 pounds lighter than what I actually weigh and have excellent flexibility (9 inches reach past my toes), I think I can say I'm "above average" in fitness. I haven't done any testing recently, so I don't know how much I can lift or my mile pace, but I'm sure it's better than the last time I checked them. Backed a little bit off my daily weight-lifting regimen after I stress-fractured both my arms and legs. That being said, strengthwise I am extremely fit: I could probably pound off about 70-75 pushups in a minute without it even tiring me, and I could do the same with about 50-60 situps. Cardiowise, I'm a little less in shape, and I probably could not run more than a 7:30 mile, even supposing someone gave me archsupports so I could run. That being said, I do walk about 3 miles a day to and from school.

I say above average, although my results may be a bit skewed. My BMI is around normal, on the higher end of normal weight, but a good deal of that is muscle.

The reason I say the results may be skewed is that I go to a tech (geek) school, where everyone is either obese or extremely thin. As such, I feel like a greek god being asked to life heavy things.

If you were to ask me, I'd say sorta average.
If you were to ask anyone who knows me, they'd say I'm in awesome shape.
And logically (especially if I focussed on what I'm capable of) I know this is true, but still can't get over my fairly low self-image.

But he did ask what I thought, not what I am!

For the record, according to the BMI charts, I'm borderline obese (105kg, 1.9m). I need to lose nearly 30kgs to get down to the normal range.
However, my bodyfat is around 12%, I can benchpress 160kg (my best is 190), deadlift 240kg and squat 230kg. I have a resting HR of 48 (best ever was 36 about 5 years ago). Last week I won the Hong Kong Open men's indoor rowing champs. So my fitness is pretty good.

BMI is only a rough guide, it doesn't take into account having lots of muscle bulk and stuff, so don't base your perception of yourself on that. :)

I mean, I'm nearly underweight, and I know I need to tone up and lose a bit of flubber!

I skateboard nearly constantly whenever I have spare time, I eat mostly fruit and breads/grains, I play baseball in the summer months, I keep up the training schedule I had with the Army Rangers, and I lug a drum kit with me nearly everywhere I go.

I'm not what you'd call "buff", but I'm lean and well toned with a slight shift in muscle mass towards my legs (yeah for skateboarding - I gots me some damn fine legs). The downside: I drink my body weight in sodas every week. ;)

I'm 5 foot 4 inches tall, and i really don't know what weight i am - i think i'm about 10 stone-ish, i'm a 12 (uk size!), and i'm lazy as hell :)

I fence with my club twice a week, and i would do more except we can't get the hall times
Apart from that i walk around college all day...i'n a lazy ass but the fencing i do is fairly tiring for me so i guess its making me fitter - i have kick ass calves at least, lol !!

I'm almost the same as Occidio. :) I just converted my weight, (60kg) into pounds and it's 132. Hurrah. And I'm 5'8", or 173 cm for us more enlightened people. :p

And on the fitness, I walk heaps, since I don't have a car and I live in the city. I try to get down to the gym 2-3 days a week. I do need to work on things though. I'd LOVE to get into netball again. It's a great cardio workout, although really bad on the joints. My left knee has creaked since my high school days, when I played 5 times a week.

Every week-day I run a kilometer, do 20 push-ups, 20 sit-ups, various other stretches, and play sports for 40 minutes. On the weekend's I'll shoot some hoops for an hour on saturday, but that's ab00t it.

I call that time "P.E." or "Gym".

I used to go to a school in the states, and Gym here in Panama is way more demanding, physical, and fun:). Sure, you can skip out, but only if you have a medical condition that says "j00 c4nn0t pl4y OMFGl0lWTF!!!1!!!!11111!!!". I can see why so many American sk00lchildren are t3h fatz0rz.

I r t3h l33t in fitn3ss!

Believe me or not, I'm quite fit. I lift four days a week and run the other three. I started this in high school for football in baseball, and it's a good way to balance out the pizza and beer in college. I'm not as cut as I once was, but you can still see the old six pack and I'm much stronger now.

Since some other people decided to give more info, I will as well.

I'm 6'3" and roughly 200 pounds, but I'm nowhere near fat. I have a 34 inch waist. That's just an assload of muscle on board. I find lifting fun and relaxing. It pays off.

That being said I have a kick-ass metabolism. I'm really not into health food and eat what I want. Some of this is good: salads, spaghetti (yay for carbs), and steak (yay for red meat too), but some isn't: (pizza, dessert, pizza). So hopefully one day I'll chill out or else get fat in my old age.

*Crosses fingers*

Hope to god that doesn't happen...

I'm a little outta shape. I'm overweight, and am gaining more. I've been working out, but it's been a bit off and on. I do need to do a bit more before my cruise, however.

Right now I'm 5'8 and about 210. I'm "overweight" by 20 some pounds but it doesn't matter, since I play football. Right now I can bench 260 pounds five times, and I can squat 365 ten times. I can curl 50 pound dumbells ten times both arms as well. I have a 42 inch chest, 16 inch biceps, 15 inch triceps, and have a 34 size pants. I run two miles in about 15 minutes, and can run a mile in 6 ish. I need to work on abs though, but who really cares about abs.
