spawned from a discussion in US history class where people who feel under-represented in their governments stop voting because they feel it futile

do you feel under-represented in our government and if so do you think this has/will effect your vote?

I feel underrepresented, but it is compulsary to vote here so I'm going to continue voting so I don't get a fine.

Where are you where it is compulsory to vote?
I bet your country's Civil Rights rating is abysmal ;)

Uncivil Australia has compulsary voting, like another 20 or so compulsary democracies like Sweeden and Switzerland (I think).:)

I'm a Libertarian, so you'd better believe I'm underrepresented. I have no plans to stop voting. The whole wasted vote BS is just bi-partisan propaganda. Think about it.

In the U.S.:

- any vote other than Bush was wasted
- every vote in a blue state was wasted
- every Bush vote in a red state in excess of (Kerry's total + 1) was wasted

By further reduction, I could say that every vote except for one was wasted, since if only one person voted and voted Bush he would carry the Presidency.

and how does not voting get you any closer to being more represented ? .. if your not there to fight for your representation, the people who are represented will simply step over you..

I feel unrepresented, and it always affects my vote.

You have a funny definition of wasted. Mine follows: a vote is wasted if it was actually cast and had no effect on the final outcome.
