A SOUTH Korean trader has been granted approval to import chicken from North Korea for the first time, officials said yesterday.

A first shipment of 40 tonnes of poultry meat may arrive as early as this week, the ministry of agriculture and forestry said.

The South Korean trader plans to import 2000 tonnes of North Korean chicken this year.

"We found North Korean chicken farms were free of avian influenza," an agriculture official said.

Do you think that this is possibly the start of reunification in Korea? How do you think that would work? What barriers can you see preventing reunification? I don't think Kim Jong Il would be too keen on the idea, unless it was unification under him. He'd love that, see it as a justification of his policies and actions. Well, what do you think? Sorry, my bad! I misread the article as meaning that this was the first time trade occured between the two nations rather than this was the first time they traded chickens.

No way in heck. North Korea is supreme and will not "unify" with South Korea. N.K. is just....no, no way I could see N.K. peacefully unifying with S.K....nope no way

Perhaps when south Korea is a smoking wreck, north korea will happily reunify, they'll be no-one to resist.

An attempt to revive the "Sunshine" policy? Hopefully it will have at least a little less graft in it this time. Can't blame the S. Korean's for trying, but I don't envy them having N. Korea as their estranged "family"...

How does North Korea have poultry to export, yet has millions of starving people?
