Your time on NS.

What have you done during your time on NS?

I for one have never strayed out of General. I don't RP. I go for the political debates.

I came in swinging, and started off with US issues. I now avoid them like the plague, because I've read the same arguments too many times.

I feel like I have gotten to know a few of you here, and I like ya...even the mean nasties...there is a fairly diverse pool of viewpoints here.

I never assume anymore that people are joking. Too many times, they aren't.

I try to never stoop to personal attacks, but I DO type furiously (as Occidio once described it), and I love the quick replies.

I guess I've whetted my appetite for debate here...and sated it on occasion as well. I've also met some great personalities.

What have YOU done?

I've spammed horrendously whilst cleverly manipulated my system of posting so that spammy posts are interspersed with intelligent comments at just the right intervals to make me semi-unbannable. And the important thing is that I never get my comeuppance. NO COMEUPPANCE!

EDIT: Oh, you meant 'where've I been'? Mostly General, with some time in the UN forum on a puppet nation. I'm no good in RP.

I started by debating in the political/religious threads feverishly.

Then I got tired of that.

So I started making threads about sports and stuff, things I enjoyed and I didn't think would get too heated.

I was wrong.

So then I started posting in all the fun word game threads and in the social threads.

Then word games got banned, and all the people I first met on NS left

So I left NS for a while.

Then I came back after about 3 months away from the forum. But I still had a bad taste in my mouth about General, so I got into the NS and II forums.

But then I had to go to school, and there was not enough time to RP.

So then I returned to General. There's a whole new group of people that I'm friendly with now, and my role has shifted from the wide-eyed newbie who looked up to the forum veterans, to one of the forum veterans who people now look up to (I think).

Who knows what the future has in store for me.

What've I done here? I used to only frequent the RP forums, but got a little disillusioned when everything kept descending to OOC debates, and a lot of other stuff in my life went to hell (and then back, hoo-rah). I'm currently writing up something really quite big as my return, but it's an on and off thing. Recently I haven't left the general forum for any reason. I used to get involved in the debates quite heavily, but now I usually just save my breath for topics that are novel and interesting, or present a new angle, or a debate that isn't commonly engaged in.
But I haven't actually done all that much. I don't post all that often, just stalk the forums and read what other people type. Been posting more recently though.

I've posted my views on General about virtually everything, and really ticked some people off because of my rather vigorous defense of the US. But that's the nature of the beast. Those who can't stand the heat need to get the hell out of the kitchen! :)

Just general.

RP was always table top for me (A long time ago) so the RP forums don't appeal.

I try to avoid the <Insert Person/Country/Religion> bashing threads, and stick to the ones with some content.

I am not a fluffler, and avoid those threads as well.

I try not to attack the poster, rather than the post, but at times I slip (sorry Potaria, I just got a little wound up OK)

My time on Nationstates has been that of mostly watching. I have spent most of my time in General. I have watched old and young argue points to the point of futility. I have watched the best people on Nationstates leave because of being sick of the same debates by the same people all of the time. (Their words not mine) although I agree. I have watched as each country has pulled it's own pecker with nothing to back it up except stupid nationalism. I have watched one person(s) from one country talk down the person of another. I have seen the decline of democracy in my time. I have seen that if this is any indication of our future, we are surely doomed.

I see much sadness, I see much despair and I see the world going to hell in a hand basket. This is why I have been around for a while, but say very little.

I joined with my main nation to hang out in General, and created this nationa as a puppet, to RP. Then this nation got caught up in the old word games and spam, and the RP didn't look my sort of RP, so this nation took over. Though my main nation spent some time in II and what have you.

The word games ban, the move to Jolt and some other, trivial stuff like work and getting married drove me away from General for a while, but then I drifted back in. Mostly I just let NS run in the background (when I can wrest control of our broadband connection from my family) while I get on with RL and dip in evry now and again when something catches my attention.

From December 2002 until April or May 2003, I didn't participate much on the main NationStates forums due to the severe lag and stuck mainly to the offsite forums for "West Central Asia" (I don't think those forums exist, anymore). After that, I started posting on "United Nations" and "Technical", but primarily in "Technical" (we didn't always have a "Moderation" forum). Most of my time in "Technical" was spent in suggesting changes or revisions to the invasion rules, arguing that invasions should only be legal in some regions, suggesting improvements to the "United Nations", and offering advice to people who had questions.

Since I got modded in September 2003, I've been eating rulebreakers, keeping you weridoes in line... :p ...and generally laying down the law ever since.

Okay, seriously? I'm not supposed to unless there was actual rulebreaking involved, but it's possible. Soft-deleting or hard-deleting someones post reduces their postcount by 1. So, if I were going to do such a thing, I'd just hunt down and delete 1,000 old posts. Of course, this abuse of Mod power would be followed by an annoucement of my forcible removal as Moderator.

I was a fairly late starter on the forums: I didn't start posting until about July, and still haven't gained momentum. I hang around here and on II, but haven't done much on either, apart from "Ice Cream Havoc..." (sequel is being planned). People mostly ignore me, so either I have managed to accidentally write racism, sexism, and Nazi viewpoints into my posts without realising and been IGNOREd or I don't say anything interesting.

On here, I mainly head for the fun threads or those involving music. I avoid the big serious arguments because I get enough of that in real life. I also like to read but not reply to the extremist "Hey, lets go out and kill *random ethnic/religious/political/economic/other* group" because they are funny.

I only ever post on the general forum, sticking mostly to spammy threads, or NS local 8976. I'm not particularly well informed on political matters, so if I see an interesting political thread I'll tend to read it rather than participating.

I have been considering getting into RP, starting off with an RP about my nation's underfunded military, but that probably won't be for months. I'll probably start reading II a bit, to see how that kind of thing goes.

I'm that rarity - a UN regular who dabbles elsewhere. I dipped my feet into General a few times in the distant past and came away feeling ... dirty. I've been a regular in Moderation and Technical (given my technical background, those tended to be easy. I've created one or two major topics in NS and II, but never got into the major RPs (RP is a pretty horrible spectator sport).

Since being modded, I find myself flitting everywhere, but mostly do non-moddish stuff in the UN once again.

I spend most of my time in II, and very little of my time in General. If you want an intelligent debate, here isn't the place to come. 9 times out of 10, any slightly controversial thread will become a flamefest and a place for the arrogant and obnoxious to come and tell everyone why they're wrong, rather than explain why they're right. No, I'm a member of another forum where intelligent debate happens, that's where I go for my fill.

I like II because it's a good place to use your imagination, and if you're like me and incapable of writing a novel due to a lack of skill/attention/patience, then it's ideal. Of course, if you don't have a name that everyone recognises, you get ignored completely, but I don't mind...

Cog left out the part where one of us Tech forum readers would reply to his every post by saying something along the lines of "Excellent point. They really should make you a mod." :P

As for myself....I'm generally everywhere. Started out as a UN regular (the whole "being-a-delegate-with-twenty-endorsements" thing had a lot to do with that), then gradually migrated over to Tech and Mod. I occasionally posted then in NS and II, and still do (I'm involved in an RP or two, but I don't RP much on the NS forums). I've also been posting in General for quite a while; although I've never been a part of the traditional General Forum Royalty I'd usually know them when I ran into them. I've also posted in NS2 (back when Neut ruled that forum) and JG - in fact, I doubt there's a forum here that I haven't posted in. Since I think the new forums are really freaking ugly, I can be found more often in the Gameplay world now (the past year or so) - the ADN and Nasi forums, as well as other random regional boards. Although I'm currently on a one-week hiatus due to very high RL pressure (http://www.usfirst.org/robotics/2005/Site_Info/2005ChesapeakeRegional.pdf).

I spend most of my time here at General, looking for babes to hit on and to flirt with :D

Of course, if the babes don't want to flirt with me or hit on me, I sit in the corner and be a wallflower and isolate myself...

I've established myself in the UN, sometimes seen in Moderation and Technical. Tentatively beginning to look at General and RPing.

I started on the evolution/religion threads but now i hang around more on the nice/random threads...

I don't hate anyone on Ns

I spend all my time on general, i've never even visited the other ones...

Yeah, met some great people...

Had some interesting debates...

All in all its pretty cool... well yeah... otherwise i wouldn't still be here

Before the move to Jolt I was pretty active on the debate threads in general, and occasionally would post in Gameplay and I.I. Since the move, I've pretty much restricted myself to offsite forums, which is where most of the fun is anyway :D

Used to hang out in Technical a lot -- more reading than posting -- in the days when it was full of helpful hints and fun discoveries rather than full of complaints as it is presently. Moderation used have interesting threads, too. Pre-Jolt, General used to have a very tight clique but it's broken up so I come here off and on since I can't mine any useful information from Tech/Mod/Issues any more. Wow. Pablo and Argyres. Man, I haven't see you guys in ages.
