There's a sign in Oakland that urges us to "Stop Casting Porosity" which always threw me for a loop. How am I casting porosity? How can I stop?
Then someone told me I was placing the emphasis in the wrong part of the sentence...

I just got a strong gust of wind like something passed over my head at extremely high speed.

This is really hard to convey without saying it outloud-
I read it as that I should stop casting porosity. However, it was a metal casting place that was advertising its ability to stop casting porosity when it cast in metals.

I will assume that it is a "you had to be there" story.

It's certainly not something I can convey while typing. Apparently. I'll have to make a note of that.

no, I get it, you just need to emphasis where you were more than what the sign said. Porosity is a weakness in metals, in the first post it didn't really seem like you were in a place involving metals.

Even if he would have made that reference, I would have been lost. I know nothing of metals and metallurgic humor is lost on me.

See thats what threw me off when I saw the sign (that and my utter lack of knowledge regarding metal casting) The sign is just a plain white and black sign on the side of the freeway with no other indicators or explination-in the same style as those church signs that tell you to do churchy things.
So for a while I was just confused. Then a friend who was a materials engineer straightened me out....
...after laughing at me for about five minutes....

some of those are darn funny, but way too many are fake. Even ones where he doesn't mention it.
But those theatre signs are the best.
