I'd think that by this time anyone wanting a gmail would have one (i have 50 invites, too! Actually, it seems like these are "refillable"--i have 49 left after giving one out, but it increased back to 50)

I have 480,114 invites available to share. Well, not me, but there are that many available at the Gmail Invite Spooler: http://isnoop.net/gmail/

I really don't see what's so special about Gmail, unless I'm missing something here.
PS I also have 50 invites.

GMail is considered special because:
- it is free
- if offers both POP and webmail.
- offers 1000 mb storage, while the most popular competitor hotmail offers 2, and many others offered only 30 at the time of intrduction.
- it has an IMO superior way to organise messages. I like the threaded view and the tags I can give a message - which in effect means my messages are sorted in more than one folder.
- it was originally made "elite" by issuing a limited amount of invites. A brilliant marketing trick. Of course, this is now no longer true since the number of invites is infinite.

I also have 50 invites, and after sending out about 6, they refilled in a day. I can only assume that Google's marketing department has decided that they've rationed it for long enough and now is the time to release it fully. A neat trick to increase demand.

Also, I already store files on my secondary Gmail account. It's nice to have a GB of space that is stored on one of the most redundant and failure-proof server systems of the world.

I have 50 invites too. (Used one, but it was filled up again.) I use Gmail in conjunction with Google News Alert and Gmail Notifier (not the version Google provides, but the Mozilla Firefox extension :D), as well as for the "normal" e-mailing purpose. To say the least, this is the best e-mail account I've ever had. ;)

Hmm, i'd assumed the 50 invites was a bog, like when i had 500 randomly for a day or two. But invites are infinite? Everyone can get gmail?

:( I feel less special. :(
