Has anyone here heard of Donald Woods? Or read any of his work?

I'm reading his book Biko right now, and I also read a collection of his articles, which were all compiled in one book (which I read in one sitting). The guy's stuff is just brilliant, and it took a lot of guts writing what he did. Has anyone else read any of his stuff?

Ashamedly no, and I've never even heard of him. Since I can't be bothered to spend five seconds googling when I could spend a minute typing out this post, any chance of a brief synopsis?

Ever seen the movie Cry Freedom, directed by Richard Attenborough, starring Denzel Washington and Kevin Kline. Kevin Kline plays Donald Woods, a real-life journalist who was a white anti-apartheid activist in South Africa and close friend of Steve Biko.

In a word, no. However, it's now on my list of Films to Watch, sounds like it could well be worth seeing. I'll also keep an eye out for any of Wood's work, gotta be worth a read. Anyway, I'll let some other people who actually have read the book to post now.

It's a very powerful movie. However, there are some parts that are very difficult to watch (the Soweto riots, where hundreds of black children were shot, for example), but if you've got a strong stomach, I highly recommend the film.
