Abortion:
I believe each person has his/her own right to follow his/her own beliefs or policies. Frankly as the saying goes, "It's my body, I can do whatever I want with it." Of course, I also support general education programs in which people are taught the good and the bad, and this doesn't just apply for abortion but for everything. But personally, I support legalized abortion across the board.

Affirmative Action:
Truth is I'm white, but since I'm half Spanish I'm considered hispanic. I rather not have Aff. Action because I think Blacks, Mexicans and Asians should be treated equal to whites, not superior. C'mon it's been 150 years since the Civil War guys...

same-sex marriage:
As long as they don't make out in my face tis' all good..same applies as above, "It's my body I can do whatever I want with it."

President Bush/American policies"
I personally support Bush and his policies. Frankly, what Bush is doing is securing the future for the United States. Whether for oil or for the girls I can care less, I'm very Machiavellian. With the introduction of democracy into Iraq the United States has allowed for a nucleus of a quasi-democracy and in the next century this will diffuse into the outlying countries..I can assure you that there will be a slow and steady democratization of the middle east because of this war (looks at Palestine and Lebanon).

abortion- very strongly pro-choice. It's a woman's decision.

same-sex marriage- Very strongly in favour of same-sex marriage. Equal rights are good, and it doesn't harm anyone, so it's nobody's business anyway.

President Bush/American policies- I think Bush and his government are a bunch of elitist arseholes. I think US unilateralism is dangerous and should not continue. And I can comment on other issues as they come up. :)

War in Iraq/War on Terror- I think the war on Iraq was carried out on false premises, and continues to cost Iraq so much in terms of lives and infrastructure. In other words, against.

gun control- I don't have a defined stance on this, since it's not a huge issue here. However, it does puzzle me as to why people feel they NEED assault rifles etc...

Also I consider myself a feminist, and heading towards anarcho-feminism, if that helps in defining my stance for other topics. :)

Abortion-personally against it. But I'd rather see it go back to the states (Supreme Court overstepped bounds on Roe v. Wade). Whatever decision was made in the states I'd recognize as law.
Affirmative Action-against
gay marriage-couldn't care less. Federal government should keep its nose out of marriage altogether (for or against).

War on Iraq-short, short answer-supported it.
War on Terror-support it
Legalized Drug Use-against it

I would probably like to participate. Here are shorthand versions of my views

Abortion - strong pro-choice, unapologetic about abortion - including so-called "partial birth abortions"
Same-sex Marriage - support it
Affirmative Action - support it
Separation of Church/State - strongly support it, government should stay out of religion and vice versa
Presdient Bush - cannot stand the election-stealing, imperialist weasel
War in Iraq - opposed it, oppose how it is continuing
War on Terror - against terrorism (of course), the "war on terror" has many flaws and undesirable qualities
Current American foreign policy -- generally critical
Legalized Drug use - mixed, can debate either side, probably support legalization of marijuana
Prostitution - somewhat support it, but concerned about sexism & exploitation
Pornography - same as Prostitution
National HealthCare - support it
Social Security - support it (seems a no-brainer), oppose Bush plan to invest in stock market
Prison Reform - depends on what you mean
Gun control - support it, the Second Amendment poses no barrier
Internationalism - generally support it
Environmental Regulation - generally support it
Mixed Market Style Economy - generally support it
Progressive Income Tax- support it
Government Economic Regulation - support it, depending on what you are talking about
Nationalized Health care - generally support it
Evolution/Creationism - fact vs. mythology, only former may be taught as science
Federalism/State's rights - state's rights arguments are usually a thinly veiled excuse for conservative views, historically repugnant

Abortion- Against, but I don't want to outlaw it because it's not like it's going to stop people...
Affirmative Action - Strongly against
Gay Marriage - Government should just get out of marriage altogether; everybody gets civil unions as a compromise however
Seperation Church/State- In support of, but I'm not going to go crazy if there is minutly religious stuff in legal documents
Presdient Bush- My one problem with him is that he claims to be a fiscal conservative, but keeps spending and spending
War in Iraq- I have the suspicion Saddam moved his WMDs to Syria before we could find them; I might not have supported the idea of the war but if Iraq is better off then I'm not gonna complain
War on Terror- We need to fight terrorism, but I'm not sure of the best way to
Legalized Drug use- Decriminalize it
Prostitution - Decriminalize it
National HealthCare- Against it
Social Security- Privatize it
Prison Reform- Support it
Gun control- Against it
Internationalism - Hmm, I believe in an isolationist foregin policy - does that help?
Environmental Regulation - Some is good but not to the level of an EnviroNazi
Mixed Market Style Economy - Against
Progressive Income Tax - Against; if the government can't spend its money correctly, the it should stop spending (and subsequently cut taxes)
Government Economic Regulation- If by regulation, you mean laws against fraud in an economy, then I support those

Israel=Very much pro-Israel, being an Israeli. I'd like to think my opinion counts for a lot, having lived here, and knowing what its actually like.
War on Terror=A worthy cause blown well out of proportion, and putting the world in a state of paranoia. Pro the idea, anti the way it was used.
Gay Marriage=I think gays are people like any other people, and deserve rights accordingly. People shouldn't be treated differently because of their sexual leanings. Very pro on this one, almost as strongly pro as Israel.
European Union=Against, I think that all it means is that richer countries have to spend a lot of money on helping poorer countries, so its good for some, bad for others. From a British point of view, its useless. Stay out of it.
War in Iraq=The idea, of putting Saddam out, was important, but the Americans totally cocked it up. Too many innocents have given their lives for the sake of catching one man. Should have pulled out ages ago.
President Bush=Oh where to start. I think the guy is a moron, and I'm frankly incredibly disappointed in the American people for choosing him. He's caused the deaths of way too many innocents, and also is denying rights for people based on sexual preferance. Can't wait to see him gone.
Evolution V Creationism=I trust much more in science, and the fact that a book said it happened, doesn't make it so, or else we'd all be looking for platform 9 3/4 at Kings Cross London.

Will fill in later if I think of anything else.

Abortion - pro-choice.
Same-sex marriage/gay rights - VEHEMENTLY in favor, would always be willing to debate this issue (although it's been a bit overdone on NS)
Bush Administration - not the biggest fan. At all. Particularly in the realm of domestic policies.
War in Iraq - was pro-war before I realized how bad the administration @$#@ up the occupation. Still maintain it could have been done well, but wasn't.
War on Terror - agree in principle, disagree in practice: the US needs allies most of the time, we should save unilateral deployment for drastic cases.
Gun Control - in favor, to a degree. Not the most burning issue for me.
Israel/Palestine - In terms of the history, I'm very pro-Israel, i.e, see most of the blame for the current crisis lying with the Palestinian/Arab side. That being said, I'm in favor of a two state solution in which the new Palestinian state gets the West Bank and the Gaza strip and Israel keeps Jerusalem as its capital.
Social Security Privatization - Against.
Free Trade - for.
Tax cuts - against for the wealthy (I advocate tax increases), in favor of for the middle/lower classes.
Affirmative action - cautiously for.
Origin of humanity - I'm a theistic evolutionist; God used evolution as the means toward the creation of humanity.
Legalization of Prostitution - For it, as prostitution itself is inevitable and government control is necessary in order to prevent it from becoming slavery or from spreading STDs.
Separation of Church and State - Depends on the country (although that statement itself may be deceiving, I don't think government should ever determine dogma or base policies on things like "God thinks ____ is immoral, so we should outlaw it), but in almost every single case (very much including the United States) I'm for it.
Legalization of Drugs - Undecided, could argue either side.
Capital Punishment - Only for in the case where genetic testing can prove guilt.
Stem Cell Research - way for it.
Political Affiliation/Philosophy - Liberal Democratic Capitalist, as much of a swear word as that may be in certain circles.
Other Related Interests - Philosophy, which might be interesting to discussn (Interests include Foucault, Levinas, Rawls, Lacan, Deleuze, the Greeks, and some more).
Would be happy to debate others that may be proposed.
Unistate

Abortion - I find it very unpleasant, but I support it nonetheless, partly because a cluster of cells is not life (Unless you're pro-cancer, too), and partly because it's going to happen anyway, so we may as well make sure it's safe and regulated.
Gay Marriage - Fully support it.
Seperation Church/State - Fully support it.
Presdient Bush - Not fond of his domestic policies, but I'm fairly behind his foreign policy.
War in Iraq - Support it, although I hope the various intelligence issues get rectified. And I support staying as long as is required. If we do this right, we're vindicated (At least to some degree.). If we do this wrong, we never get support for anything again.
War on Terror - Support it. What else is there to do anyway? Nonetheless, a review of how it is being done would be welcomed by many.
Legalized Drug use - Support it. All of it. I mean crack, X, heroin, all of it.
Prostitution - Support.
National HealthCare - Eeeeh, I don't have any real objections to it, but it has be done properly, like Sweden, not lamely, like England.
Social Security - For vets and disabled people, 100% behind it. For short-terms of unemployment, same. Otherwise, abjectly opposed.
Prison Reform - Let the non-violent drug users go free and half the problem is fixed.
Gun control - Absolutely not. Immoral and wrong.
Globalization - Completely, 100% supportive of it.
Progressive Income Tax - Given that I object to tax in general, and believe it should be kept to an absolute minimum, and given that I believe whether you're earning $21,000 a year or $21,000,000, you should be entitled to your money, you might extrapolate that I object to progressive taxation.
Government Economic Regulation - Absolutely not. Complete freedom as long as laws are obeyed.
Evolutionism vs. Creationism - In public schools, the accepted international standard must be taught, though other ideas may be given mention and merit. In a private school, it's up to the school.
Attack Coordination
13-03-2005, 16:21
Abortion - oppose it
Gay Marriage - I oppose government-sponsored marriage entirely (civil unions for all)
Seperation Church/State - ACLU-type, no US-type, yes
Presdient Bush - like him much better than Kerry
War in Iraq - opposed it
War on Terror - good idea, not really realistic
Legalized Drug use - support, with strict punishments for crimes under inf.
Prostitution - support it
National HealthCare - oppose like heck
Social Security - privatize it
Prison Reform - support it
Gun control - support for :sniper: , :gundge: , and :mp5: , but not for all guns
Internationalism - support it
Environmental Regulation - support, as long as they aren't abusive to business
Mixed Market Style Economy - don't like it
Progressive Income Tax- just a little bit
Government Economic Regulation - support, if done to an extreme minimum
Foreign policy beliefs- support Israel, promote free trade with most everybody

Basically, I'm a capitalist at heart. Call me up on economics topics and international affairs mainly. However, I know a bit about domestic stuff.
Atheistic Might
13-03-2005, 16:45
I am against the teaching of creationism in public schools (it really isn't my place to interfere with private schools), the death penalty, the outsourcing of jobs, President Bush, affirmative action, the War on Terror, and the War on Drugs.

I support the UN, but acknowledge that it requires some improvement, Social Security, environmental regulations, strict arms control (I think that the second amendment should be redrafted so that it is less vague), high taxes for the wealthy, gay marriages (in that they should have the same benefits as other couples. If calling it a civil union is what will allow it to pass, so be it.), national health care, and the elimination of loopholes in tax codes.

In general, I suppose that I am extremely liberal, but I try not to play party lines. I don't agree with all Democrats, and I don't disagree with all Republicans. If you have a good idea, I don't care what your political affiliation is.
B0zzy
13-03-2005, 16:47
Abortion - nobody not in that situation is entitled to an opinion. I simply don't support federal subsidation of it.
Prostitution - What is the big deal? Oldest profession deserves respect.
Feminism - Ifeminist is more suitable than N.O.W. (unlike N.O.W. Ifeminist does not oppose prostitution or pornography)
Gay Marriage - Hollywood couples are more threatening to the institution. I really don't care. I do see the potential for a pandoras box of unintended concenquences to open as a result though.
Seperation Church/State - well duh. But seperation is not the same as alienization.
President Bush - Better than Clinton, worse than Reagan.
War in Iraq - could have been executed better, but then, what in life couldn't be after the fact? Better than doing nothing at all (like the UN for the last 10 years)
War on Terror - WarT for short? Better than sitting on our hands waiting for the next attack. Should be more agressive.
Legalized Drug use - interesting idea. Addictive substances should not be included.
National HealthCare - Current US system is effective, though insurance is beurocratic and inefficient.
Social Security - Fix it or forget it. Privatization is a good idea that could use some fine tuning.
Prison Reform - Too many things making prisoners. (too much is illegal) Social programs have done a piss-poor job of adderessing the roots of violent crime.
Gun control - Gun safety should be taught in public schools. That's about all I could support.
Internationalism - never surrender sovereignty, not even a little.
Environmental Regulation - overbearing beurocracy took a good idea too far.
Mixed Market Style Economy - less (but not none) government, more private enterprise
Progressive Income Tax- needs work, but good in theory.
Affirmative Action - usless tool encouraging reverse discrimination.
Personal freedom - for it
Economic freedom - for it
Wealth - for it :) beneficial to society
beurocracy - laws not passed by at least a two-thirds margin in congress should have a mandatory four year sunset clause. (reduces judicial activism and allows bad legislation to fade into the sunset)
communism - a quaint fairy tale. Glad it's finally proven useless.
Unsubstantiated claims - not worthy of mercy or civility

Sadly, most of the long term posters here are over the top liberals. Any 'debate' club would likely be a 10 on 1 'bash the conservative' party - as you can see by the posts here. Can't say that sounds like much fun to me. I just posted here for kicks.

(BTW - add 900 to my post count - the Bozzy is dead, long live the B0zzy!)

[QUOTE=Eastern Coast America]Abortion - It is not this government's policy to support nor to deny abortions. We remain nuetral on the subject.
Affirmative Action - An equal chance for everyone who applies for a job is how we see it.
Gay Marriage - The government has no rights to any couples' right to marriage... we even support inter-species marriage.
Seperation Church/State- It is an Ideal which I support, though in truth bible thumpers will always be elected.
President Bush- The comments of our government are too inflamatory as to warrant a reply.
War in Iraq- We are niether for nor against it.
War on Terror- We support the war on terror to an extent.
Legalized Drug use- If it grow's naturally then it is not a drug. If it is something that someone makes and it harms children drug pushers should be put to death.
Prostitution - It should be legal.
National HealthCare- The health of one's citizens is a notation of the health of one's country.
Social Security- If you pay into this program you should have the right to withdraw it at any given time.
Prison Reform- Prisoners should be required to raise their own food or otherwise starve.
Gun control- Gun control means using both hands and hitting what you aim at.
Internationalism - undecided
Environmental Regulation - undecided
Progressive Income Tax - My country has no taxes.
Government Economic Regulation- This government deems that it will stay out of business policies so long as businesses stay out of the governement.

Abortion- Pro, although I think the legal time allowed should be reduced to 26 weeks.

Affirmative Action - For, but cautiously. I think as it stands now, it does more harm then good, and perhaps should be changed to help the economically disadvantaged. You'd still help out more racial minorities then white people, and you wouldn't give well educated middle class black people a "leg up" they don't want or need.

Gay Marriage - Support.

Seperation Church/State- Very much support.

Presdient Bush- Utterly moronic, very scary person.

War in Iraq- Undecided. The justification for it was laughable at best, non existant at worse, but the way things are going now it might turn out well.

War on Terror- War on terrorists by invading the countries they operate from? Reducing terrorism by making more enemies? Er, no.

Legalized Drug use- Unsure.

Prostitution - If it was state-controlled and legislated, maybe.

National HealthCare- For.

Social Security- For, although the current system in England and America could probably use reformation.

Prison Reform- More prisons needed.

Gun control- Tighter control, make gunsafes mandatory. Ideally I wouldn't have them, but I don't think banning them in America would be practical or helpful.

Internationalism - For.

Environmental Regulation - I want to see an REALISTIC, and actually EFFECTIVE environmental regulation bill passed with an aim other then appeasing the hippies.

Progressive Income Tax - For.

Government Economic Regulation- For.

Affirmitive action: Dead against it. It does a lot to spread resentment amongst basically everyone. It can cause people who are the supposed benificiaries of the plan to be hated by everyone else, as it can lead to suspicions that they didn't deserve the job anyway, it leads to hatred from the victims because they feel they're being deprived of employment they deserve, and nobody ends up happy. The fact that it treats one group of people as superior is also a hindrance to equality.

Gay marriage: I'm for equality in everything, this shouldn't be an exception. It's not harming anyone else, and allows everyone to feel more equal. I also don't follow the whole slippery slope argument that if you allow this, where will it end? As far as I'm concerned, if somebody wants to marry their toaster, more power to them.

Gun control: I'm really quite unsure where I stand on this. On one hand, it should be someones right to have a gun if they want one, but on the other, there's no doubt to me that having a gun will encourage some, most certainly a distinct minority, from using it irresponsibly. I suppose if pushed, people should be allowed to have a firearm, but the controls should be much tighter.

Seperation of church from state: Absolutely for this. The church shouldn't have any place in the running of the state, nor the other way around. I don't recognise them as two mutually compatible entities, so I don't see why they should interfere with each other.

Legalised drug use: For, if only because it becomes easier to regulate. I don't use drugs myself, beyond for purely medical purposes, but I don't believe that my view on this should be forced on anyone else. If that's how they choose to live, then it should be peoples responsibility to ensure that they don't come to any un-necessary harm.

Prostitution: support it, again, so it can be regulated and remove as much risk from them as possible. I find it sad that some people feel they have to employ themselves in this way to survive, but I don't feel they should be punished for it.

I know there's a lot I've missed, I'll edit them in as I do.

Abortion: Pro-Choice
Affirmative Action: Against it to an extent. I believe that all races should be treated equally to the white race, rather than superior to it.
Gay Marriage: For it
Seperation of Church and State: Strongly for it
President Bush and his policies: Against them (can't explain in one sentence: not a sound bite issue)
War in Iraq: Against it from the start; but now that we have made the mess, I believe we should stay in there and continue funding it until we have cleaned it up.
War on Terror: Against it, and For it; if you really want to know, make a debate out of it: it's definetly not a sound-bite issue and needs to be explained thoroughly.
Gun Control: For it to an extent. As long as it does not go against the constitution.
Israel: Needs to fully pull out of Palestine.
Mixed Market Style Economy: For it
Government Economic Regulation: For it, to an extent.
Internationalism: Against it to an extent.
Evolution or Creationism: Evolution
Legalization of drugs: Against it: Depends of which ones.
Legalization of prostitution: Against it
European Union: Like them very much. Astonished how a continent with a history full of war unites to a "United States of Europe" and regrows it's economy that was leveled by bombing of both World Wars, and even surpasses the economy of the United States (feeling a debate coming on).
Capital Punishment: Strongly Against
Stem Cell Research: Strongly For it
My Religion: None; Atheist
My Political Philosophy: Socialist

Abortion- Personally oppose it, but believe it should be left up to state and local governments to decide
Minimum wage- Oppose it
Social welfare- Oppose it
Corporate welfare- Oppose it
Tarriffs- Oppose them
Gay marriage- Neutral, believe it should be left up to state and local governments to decide
Gun control- Vehemently oppose it
Death penalty- Strongly support it, but believe it should be left up to state and local governments to decide
Affirmative action- Vehemently oppose it
Iraq War- Oppose it
Business regulation- Oppose it very strongly; other than breaking up monopolies, the government should leave business the hell alone
Drug legalization- Same as gay marriage
Prayer in schools- If kids want to pray, let 'em; but they shouldn't be forced to
UN- Very vehemently oppose it, we should pull out and destroy it
NATO- Oppose it (I oppose all entangling alliances)
WTO- Oppose it
NAFTA- Oppose it
CAFTA- Oppose it
FTAA- Oppose it
Electoral College- Support it
Foreign aid- Very vehemently oppose it
Social Security- Vehemently oppose it and everything else that's even remotely socialistic
Gold standard- Very strongly support it
Income tax- Very vehemently oppose it
Federal Reserve- Very vehemently oppose it
Direct election of Senators- Vehemently oppose it; the 17th Amendment should be repealed

Other things:
I believe the Department of Defense should be broken up into the Departments of War, Navy, and Air Force, and, with the exception of the aforesaid departments, as well as the Departments of State, Treasury, and Justice, all departments should be permanently abolished.
Education should be left up to state and local governments (but especially local governments) to decide.
We should pursue a neutral, non-interventionist foreign policy (like Switzerland), but should break off relations with all communist and pro-communist countries (China, Zimbabwe, Vietnam, Cambodia, Venezuela, Turkmenistan, Libya, Uzbekistan, Russia, etc.).
We should bring all the troops home and dismantle our bases abroad.
We should build 20-feet tall electrified fences around our borders, and surround our borders antiaircraft artillery and millions of landmines (with warning signs in various languages), peacefully return all illegals to their respective countries, and make it where the only way to enter is via helicopter (all unauthorized helicopters would be shot down)
Government spending should be radically reduced (except for defense, which should be increased dramatically).
The government should pursue an "equal rights to all, special privileges for none," domestic policy.

Sign me up.

I'm copying Blargistan's list here.

Abortion - support it
It's a woman's choice, she should not be required to give up her body for something that we can't even define as a person.

Gay Marriage - support it
I fully support it, debating this issue is kicking a dead horse.

Seperation Church/State - support it
One way to support a stable democracy and to protect civil rights.

President Bush - don't like him
Not a fan, but don't like debating about him. Yet again, dead horse.

War in Iraq - opposed it
Opposed it. Would support it if it showed progress in spreading freedom in the region. Not just voting freedom, but economic and civil freedom as well.

War on Terror - Support it sort of.
We definitely need to kill all of the terrorists we can. However, we do not seem to be doing anything to stop people from becoming terrorists. We are also using it as a scare and propaganda tactic against are own country.

Legalized Drug use - support it
Completely support it. Rights and responsibilities should be in the hands of the people, along with bongs.

Prostitution - support it
Prostitution laws are just one of the ways that the government has bended to puritan ideas.

National HealthCare - support it
Very much support it. Health is an important part of life, and should be protected as a right. The government should step up to the plate.

Social Security - support it
I support it, but I am not positive as to which way to go. I do not like privatisation of it, but there needs to be some reform.

Prison Reform - support it
Reform is always good.

Gun control - support it
Completely opposed to it. Rights and responsibilities should be in the hands of the people, and so should guns.

Environmental Regulation - support it
It is probably necessary. I don't think many companies act that ethically.

Progressive Income Tax- support it
Support it. Marginal utility of the dollar, excess services received by the wealthy.

Government Economic Regulation - support it
It is necessary to keep the market free.

Very few of these topics are really my bag. I would definitely stick to government and economic styles. Sometimes religion.
