Hmmm...

Okay, i realize i'm generalising here, but why is it that a lot of the time the NSers with a low post count post things discussing deep spiritual matters and reading like some kind of textbook, while the NSers with really high post counts keep posting how great all the other NSers are and keep :fluffle: each other?

But why do newbies always seem to post seriously, rather than spam?

It's because the people with the really high post counts used to be newbies who posted deep, well-thought out stuff, then realized how circular the debates are on this forum, and how futile those deep, well-thought out posts were. Now we just enjoy ourselves, have fun, and when actually interesting debates spring up, debates that aren't the same tired religious/political garbage that is recycled 500 times a month, we bust out the deep, well-thought out posts again.

Oldies have discussed almost every subject so many times that they won't bother anymore. Newbies are still enthusiastic.

That makes sense. I've probably only been on this board a few months, and the number of times i've seen the existance of god debated already, it's just plain silly. "Random silly" looks much more fun than "plain silly".

Yeah, and I've been here for near two years. Imagine how many times I've seen it.

Believe me, I used to post in all the abortion threads, in all the gay marriage threads, in all the Bush this that or the other thing threads, etc. etc. But it eventually became tiresome. No one ever convinces anyone else of anything in those "debates." They're just pissing contests to see who can yell the loudest. Nowadays, it takes a really good, interesting, unique debate to get me fired up. Other than those, which are rare, I tend to stick to socialization threads, more or less. I don't need the ulcer from those debates anymore.

a) because the newbies couldnt't spot flamebait if it was spread liberally on bread and presented as a Vegemite sandwich, so they reply to threads (seriously) that no more experienced poster would touch with a ten-foot e-pole.

b) older posters have already made the deep and meaningful points over and over and over and over and finally realised that no one cares/listens.

c) us older posters know who's worth :fluffle: with/making shrines for ^.^

The noob NS pupate can absorb up to ten times it's own body weight a day in serious debate, once it has absorbed enough it enters into a crysalis stage whereby it cocoons itself in a shell of blissfull ignorance/aphathy towards seriousness. Later on it will emerge as either a moth or a butterfly (mostly moths though). Moths then spend their time trying to earn kudos from the carefree and pretty butterflys by posting butterfly appreciation threads...

I think another large part of it is simple familiarity...

People with high post counts are likely to have been here a long time (barring the worst spammers), and have conversed with the other "oldbies" so much that they feel that they know each other, and are now friends...

New people don't have "friends" on here, so if we want to interact, we pretty much are limited to either being the outsider that tries to act like he's a part of the "clique", or we have to take part in the debates and discussions with all of the other "newbies"...

Also, it's much, much easier to argue/debate with people that you don't know... So, the oldbies are less likely to argue with each other (even when they disagree), simply because of the familiarity and/or friendship they have...

And of course, the old "been there, done that" factor that has been mentioned probably has a LOT to do with it...lol Heck, I've only been here a little while, and I'm already avoiding the usual subjects... I jumped into one or two posts about each of them, said what I wanted to say, argued my point, and got it over with... Now, I don't feel like repeating myself in each reincarnation...

Of course, this leaves me in "limbo", almost... Since I'm pretty much done with the majority of the debating, but I'm not familiar enough with anyone to become a part of the socializing group, so I haven't been posting much lately...lol

d) And then there are the exceptions, those who always have posted crap from beginning to now.

I grew tired of debating the same issues, with the same people, with the same arguments. I also gave up debate for Lent. Now I'm keeping an eye on my post count. I am close to not being a PIMP, which I find to be a very offensive label. I'm trying not to spam, but it's tough.

Hmmmmm....

Seems to me that many of you are all a bit too tied up pattin' each other on the back to even see any of the serious discussions, let alone participate.

Which I don't really mind one way or the other.

But to suggest that you are the ones to decide what is "actually interesting" is just a bit high minded of you, is it not?

I don't mind you saying it is uninteresting to you, just as your opinion is uninteresting to me, but to suggest yours as a matter of fact is another thing entirely.

When I first started posting on here, I never bothered with the god, abortion, gay marriage etc threads. Simply because they're things that I just don't care about. So I've had to post crap...and so far nobody seems to have noticed. Or at least they haven't commented if they had. And long may that continue :D
