Many of you will be surprised to know that there is now a new free to air television channel in Australia. I had no idea until last night myself, when after The Kumars at 42 but before The Glasshouse there was a small add advertising ABC2. It didn't say what it was mind you, just that it exists. Well it turns out that it's a digital channel which shows some programs at diffrent times and has some new shows. I hope they keep both ABC chanels when they switch everything over to digital in a few years.

You can find more info here. (http://www.abc.net.au/ABC2). It's a shame that even the ABC isn't really mentioning it. BTW, for you foreigners ABC in Australia is not like ABC in America, whole diffrent ballgame.

It's sort of like the BBC, state funded, but they have no say on the content.

They kick up a big stink every budget, always wanting to cut funding and tell the ABC the types of programming that they should be putting on. In other words they get a fraction of the budget of a commerical channel and are expected to out do them. They do a damned good job of trying too. ;)

Hahaha! You have no idea how untrue that is. The ABC specialises in humiliating politicians and putting them on the spot with painful and frank interviews. Most of our government and opposition absolutely HATES the ABC.

Nice!
That's like the opposite of all the channels I get here in the US...

Damn, we need to import some Aussies to reform our television channels.

There is an Australian owned TV network in the US, FOX, owned by Rupert Murdoch. I'm sure it's totally unbiased.:p;)

We've got the savvy interviewers, we've got the researchers, and we’ve got the freedom to ask difficult questions. Now all that we need to do is get politicians to actually supply viewers with answers [equivocations, obfuscation and indignant yelling don't count]

The ABC has taken a bit of a downturn as well, in my opinion, following the oppointment of Janet Albrechtsen to the board.

Yay, more ABC! Now all we need is more SBS. I suppose there IS World Movies.

I hope the government doesn't try to close SBS down. :(

At least both Media Watch and the 7:30 report have begun this year, so she can't screw around with them for now.
