I used to play a lot of Shadowrun when I was 18 ('bout 5 years ago now... God, I feel old!)

Anyway, I recently found all my SR books in a box in the garage, and got to thinking about how much much money I'd invested in them, and how I really enjoyed the game.

Alas, I'm not really one for face to face RPGs anymore, but since I've been playing NS for ages, I figured we might be able to get a Forum-based game running, if anyone was interested...

Anyone?

I did play it on Super Nintendo, but i've never actually seen the pen and paper RPG.

Nah, I'd prefer to play the game again... it's a good RP, and there's some great storylines to it.

My original question stands, though... anyone else an SR player at all?

Reminds, I still have my D&D books from ages ago. :p

I have heaps of AD&D 2nd Ed. stuff, but it's next to useless now since most people are playing 3rd Edition, which I really didn't like very much.

Shadowrun is more my style, I guess... I just find it odd that no-one else on the boards seems to play it...

Shadowrun, eh? I always wanted to get that game, but it was so fucking expensive. $90 was a bit much for SNES cartridges, if you ask me, and there were higher priorities at the time.

The irony of all this, of course, is that I never even knew there WAS a SNES game based on the pen-and-paper RPG until fairly recently.

I grew up in NZ (where NO-ONE owned ANYTHING by Nintendo), and thus had to content myself with the various manuals, guides, compendiums, etc for the pen and paper RPG...

I played a ton of Shadowrun. It was a primary game for my group of friends for quite a while (along side Battletech, which we treated almost like a sport.) I was pretty fond of the CyberMage, the mage that used up one point of his essence for cyberware.

...

I was about to launch into a bunch of descriptions of the various characters and adventures that we did. That geek-reflex is a tricky little bastard.

I loved that game. I don't know that I could ever really get into playing of the net, though. I'm too old school. Especially if you think that 23 is old.

I've been a SDR3, AD&D2 and AD&D3 player. I've got a bunch of books on AD&D3, some on AD&D2 and the player manual to Shadowrun 3. That's a very complete manual, you only need this one to play SDR (if you already played other paper-n-pen RPGs).

It would be interesting to have a comparison on this forum about the two. The dice system in Shadowrun is more complex, but when you're into it, I think it gives you much more possibilities.

For SDR for the SNES, I think this one had a better story. But the one on the Genesis had a better gameplay. God bless emulation!

Finally, I think I prefer SDR to AD&D. The cyberpunk setting, never have played on the Matrix, did not use much magic either, but overall, but damn good ideas and storyline! You want good plots for your players? Johnny Mnemonic and Blade Runner are the most acclaimed cyberpunk movies. Can get you some inspiration...

Long Live Shadowrun!

I've made like 4 or 5 characters for Shadowrun because my roommate keeps on saying he'll run a campaign for me. Then he never does, and the character gets lost. So I guess I've never actually played Shadowrun, but I do know the rules pretty well.

I've done Runs via E-mail before, and they worked out a lot better because everyone could *think* about what they were doing, and you could develop the story.

The Dice system is complicated, but, as others have said, seems to work better than AD&D's d20 based system.

The guys I used to play with never bothered with The Matrix (and I don't know anyone who ever did), and Magic was generally kept to a minimum (more assensing and healing rather than massive fireballs and the like).

My characters always had a no cyberware policy- not even a datajack.

Of course, one of my best characters went on runs armed with a WWII era Bren Gun and a brace of Colt M1991A1s. One of our most memorable runs involved "eliminating" a group of dangerous Environmental Activists who'd killed the sister of one of the runners in the group.

We discussed various ways of taking them out, then simply decided on walking into their HQ (a Talismongers, of all places) and opening fire- Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels style- on anything that moved.

We had one of those rare moments where the dice love you. Our bullets found their mark with uneering accuracy. The Tree-Hugger's bullets bounced off our armour or did almost no damage, and we were able to almost totally level the place.

Most of our runs turned to custard because something went wrong (one player had this amusing habit of failing his various saving throws etc and nearly being killed by people armed with the SR equivalent of an air rifle), so this was was a nice change...

Ahh, memories... :D
