Iran to be the next N. Korea?

Word is the US is embracing EU policy on Iran. That is, they are to offer Iran economic incentive in attempts to have Iran give up its quest for nukes. This is similar to N. Korea, in that economic incentive was offered to have N. Korea give up its nuke plans. N. Korea accepted the economic incentive but did not stop its nuclear programs and now owns nuclear weapons. Will Iran be the same?
There are reports that Iran can hide such plants within its borders, even from satellites. I tend to believe such reports due to the mountainous landscape of Iran. If you agree, arguing that Isreal or any other nation can send in fighter jets to take out nuclear plants as they did in Iraq wouldn't really hold up.

I'll eat my shoe if this gets resolved peacefully.
Either Iran develops nuclear weapons fast enough, and acquires a deterrent to Keep america at bay or America launches a series of air strikes and commando raids at Iran's nuclear facilities especially aiming to kill off most of Iran' nuclear scientists by attacking the housing facilities at the nuclear sites. Israel and the US are currently conducting joint military exercises involving Patriot and Arrow missiles which would simulate a Iranian missile atack on Israel, which is almost certain to happen if Iran is attacked.
http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/550154.html. The pentagon has also recently resumed ominous talk of developing nuclear "bunker busters", which would have obvious applications in Iran's underground nuclear facilities.
Personally I can't imagine why the Iranian leaders would consider abandoning its nuclear programs. Saddam tried to appease the US, giving them extensive documentation of their WMD programs, allowing in inspectors, bulldozing Al-Samoud missiles all to no avail. With the United States setting up military bases designed to remain in place for decades in Iraq and Afghanistan, Iran is obviously in an extremely perilous situtation, located between the two countries. If the ayatollahs don't get nuclear weapons it seems only a matter of time before they are invaded and they are sitting before a special tribunal in the Hauge or dead

Agreed. Add N. Korea to the mix. Iran sees America has to treat them more fairly once they have nuclear weapons. In fact, the Bush administrations actions seem to say, we're not going to repect you unless you have nukes or you are so close that we can't stop you. I wonder if Iran will look to N. Korea to help them develop nukes faster?

Well Pakistani scientists recently admitted to helping Iran develop nuclear weapons although the leak seems to have been designed to encourage the Americans to attack Iran, since Pakistan is pretty worried about Iran getting nuclear arms as well.

As for North Korea, I don't know how much help they have given with the actual nuclear warheads, but the Iranian's main ballistic missile the Shahab, is just a knock off of the North Korean No Dong missile http://www.fas.org/nuke/guide/iran/missile/shahab-3.htm

That's very interesting how Korea and Iran are not only helping each other but Russia and China are also involved. I don't understand why the US would accuse Pakistani scientist of leaking nuclear technology if they are supposed to be allies, esp. at a time when looking for Osama bin Laden. Or, I guess the US doesn't care much about that these days?

What the article said was not that the Americans were accusing pakistan of providing aid to Iran but that Pakistan had just spontaneoulsy announced that their scientists had provided aid to Iran to develop weapons. Their motive seems to be to prove that Iran is indeed trying to develop nuclear weapons, not just developing nuclear power for peaceful purposes. Pakistan already frightened to death of superiorly armed India, a nuclear power to the East, and it has no desire to see a second nuclear stand off develop along its western boarder with Iran.
As for Russia, I would expect any Russian-US cooperation on anyting for a long time after that Ukraine fiasco.

My mistake. It does say, "Once again Pakistani leadership is playing in the hand of the United States to serve its sinister motives against Iran." But I see what you're saying now.

My bet is that the Iranians will either refuse or play word games with diplomats. Iran seems to see it as a sacred obligation to obtain nukes. If that's the case, Iran will have a reduced ability to build anything. On the other hand, they may demand more concessiions for their cooperation. Either way, a few years after the sanctions, popular anger should make the aylotollahs fall. Whoever gets into power there will probably be more willing to negotiate.
