I met Gonzo today

I met Gonzo today.

I wasn't supposed to be there. I was supposed to be at home.

But then someone said he'd be there.

Gonzo.

Right over there, he was going to talk to the class I never got to take, the one on Muppets and how much they rule.

And on the last day, Gonzo was there.

And I got to meet him.

Gonzo.

For today, I don't care about politics, I don't care about haters-for today I am nothing but joy.

Today, I remembered why I am an entertainer.

Today, I forgot doubt, I forgot anxiety, I forgot cynism.

Today, I remembered joy. The giddyness.

I rembered sitting too close to a T.V. wishing that one day I was famous enough to be a guest on The Muppet Show.

I remembered not wanting to do anything on the vacation but sit in the cabin and watch Fraggle Rock.

Today I remembered putting on shows to the wall or my brother or anyone who would watch, using whatever I could find.

Today I remembered the time spent trying to move my arms like Kermit when he'd introduce a guest.

Today I remembered trying to dance like a muppet.

Today I remembered my heart.

Today, I met Gonzo.

And his voice, Dave Goelz.

I really thought this was a Hunter S. Thompson thread.

but the thread is still interesting.

So did he tell you what type of animal he is supposed to be?

And is he still screwing chickens?

In order-
Yes, the voice of Gonzo, the real guy. And he brought Gonzo. It was fantastic.

Gonzo is, it turns out, an alien that was fired from a cannon from his home world to here.

Someone asked what the deal with the chickens was and he said, "It's purely sexual."

He said it came about from a skit that involved dancing chickens. They used real chickens and when it came time they didn't dance. One just walked away and he ad-libed saying "Don't call us, we'll call you." then added, "Nice legs." This busted Jim up and the chicken thing stuck. He can't tell the chickens apart so he calls them all Camile and the chickens are stupid enough to all think they're his girlfriend.

When asked about why his nose was so big he responded, "Who said it was a nose?"

One of the things that got me all warm fuzzy was talking about Jim Henson just creating things for the joy and leaving it to someone else to market it so he could keep doing it.

Someone did ask about the Hunter S. Thompson connection and he said that the name was most likely influenced by Thompson, the only other connection was the style. Gonzo was supposed to be the perfomer on the Muppets that was doing the most outrageous and ridiculous stunts that never worked.

I would have loved to spend a day with the Muppet crew back in the day.

Jim Henson's early passing is definitely a loss for everyone.

I ordered the Muppet collection on tape a few years ago and never got around to watching it (all the classic episodes from the 70's). Then when I met my wife I got the opportunity to "pass on" the Muppet legacy to her son who has become quite a fan of the Muppets.

I've been trying to find some place I can buy Fraggle Rock episodes but I haven't had much luck. I've had to resort to less-than-legal means to score a few episodes. Anyone got some ideas on where I can get Fraggle Rock on DVD?

Well the Jim Henson Company made Farscape, so I will always love them for that even if Jim Henson himself is no longer around.

the original post was poignant and strangely beautiful, in it's own way.
