NS has changed my attitude towards life.

This is me trying to be serious.

Before I came here, I thought the world was a crap hole filled with evil, self-possesive morons. I thought that there was no such thing as love, friendship or purpose. That was done to me by my harsh school years.

Since arriving here, I have discovered people who speak their true mind, wether they are insane, sweet, sincere or like me, just plain mad.

I wanted to thank you, as this place taught me several things:

-Suicide is the cowards way out
-The joy of insulting politicians
-Bringing out my own humorous wit
-Having a laugh with randomness
-actually getting respect

I've laughed, i've cried. But thanks to everyone here who has supported and talked to me, i've finally come out of my shell and i'm expressing how I feel. It feels good.

If it weren't for the kindness and teachings of this site, I would most likely have commited suicide by now. Thank you. Thank you.

Thanks to all my friends from the bottom of my withered heart.

Wow I don't even know you and I'm new to this and that really touched me. It was nice to hear of your honesty and not be ashamed to speak it. You will go far and be happy in your life and remember to stay honest to yourself. We all have our downs, but alot of us won't admit how down we really are. I actually attempted to commit suicide and let me tell ya........its no fun. And afterwards you just cant stop wondering why in the heck you did it.......why why why!!!!

I too am glad to be alive. Oh and your 'sappy' music is really nice too. It's ok to be sappy sometimes.

I just want to say you go.........and almost want to get emotional over it all. Thank you too for who you are.
thats nice, it is ok to be sappy sometimes :)
hell, i am probably more than most, but i have to keep it in, which sucks :(

i sympathise with the suicide thing. while we're being open, i tried it a few months back, but stopped when the pain got too much (was sliting wrists :( ) and i felt pretty stupid about it for ages after.
you'll like it here on NS - i'm nearly always cheered up just by looking around here :)

Yea actually my attempt was not to succeed but to get attention I think. To be brutally honest. If I wanted to succeed at it.........we all know we could. Cuz when I look back, I would never want to leave until its my time. Not when I think I've had enough or........blah blah blah. It also happened as doctors thought they had to drug me up with this and that. And now that I'm off everything.........I am much better.........sometimes anti-depressants and such do worse harm than good.

TIN, In a couple of months (probably around the end of May), when I myself buy a new PC, I will have a spare IBM machine that I will offer for say, $20 (to keep my parents happy, they don't like me giving away free stuff) plus postage, which may be a fair bit. It's a few years old, but it will run the internet fine.

If the computers got at least a 10GB hard drive, it's always worth a look. My old one (Which is nothing more than a solitare machine now) has only got a 1GB hard drive and it used to belong to my grandad, who somehow filled the machine with viruses that we just cannot kill. Even with reboot. So I have considered smashing it with a hammer.

Man, the one you normally use isn't even as fast as the Laptop I'm on now... A Pentium III 1ghz.

My desktop, however, is a Pentium 4 3.4ghz rig. GeForce 6800 GTO, Sound Blaster Audigy 2, 160gb 7,200rpm HDD, 1gb of DDR-2 433mhz RAM (dual channel)... The works. 11,000+ 3DMarks in 3DMark '03.

My other one, that I can't access right now, is an Athlon 64 rig. ATI Radeon 9800 Pro, 80gb 7,200rpm HDD, 1gb of DDR 400mhz RAM... Pretty damn good, I say. 6,500+ 3DMarks in 3DMark '03.

I also have another one, which is also inaccessible. Athlon XP 2000+. GeForce 4 Ti4200, 40gb 5,200rpm HDD, 76mb of PC-133 RAM... It's decent, and plays Half-Life very well. This is the one I'd let somebody have, but first I'd have to move all my files from that HDD. It has a ton of albums on it, with some Vinyl rips :D. 3,200+ 3DMarks in 3DMark '03.

American Pawn Shops have extremely good deals on Electric Guitars. The one just a mile from my house has them for about $200. Gibson Les Pauls, Fender Stratocasters, you name it. They're in surprisingly good condition, too. They look like they've had "light" use, nothing a little polish could fix.

That's a little less than the old Compaq I had (threw it out a year or so ago). You definately need a new computer.

Virtual Memory is what your Hard Drive uses instead of RAM. When you're out of VM, you're pretty much out of HDD space. So, getting more RAM won't help the situation.

You could go the way of the upgrade, but it would be a massive overhaul. You'd need a new case (good ones go for about $100), a new Motherboard (good ones go for about $150), a new Processor (good ones go for about $275), a new Hard Drive (good ones go for about $90), new RAM (1gb of good DDR-400 RAM goes for about $125), a new Graphics Processing Unit (a high-end 9800 Pro is about $175), and possibly a new Monitor (good ones go for about $175 for 17").

And, don't forget about Case Fans (four decent case fans will set you back about $80), a Power Supply (a good, 400-watt PS is about $135), and a CPU Heatsink/Fan (a great one costs only about $45). And don't forget the Logitech z640 Surround Sound Speakers, which are about $90.

So what does that come out to? If you build it yourself, about $1,440. And, if you want a top Sound Card, and Audigy 2 ZS costs maybe $105.

It's really not that expensive if you build it yourself. But, I will warn you --- it can be a bit frustrating your first time through.

Well I suppose i'll be forced to enter vacation mode (60 days), and it'll take at least a month to get broadband put in. Ooo errr...

College term ends may 27th...
right, the answer from parents about spare computers is "dunno" - we had some but not entirely sure where they are. next time i go home i'll find out.

we definatley have a PC you could have, but the HD is busted and it won't boot up anymore. buy a new HD (and a copy of Windows... you better not be a Linux user  ) and it'll be fine

u staying put over the hols?

edit: ahahahaha i know where you live!! mwuhaha

I am indeed-apart from weekends, and HD's aren't expensive, so it sounds fine!

A new copy of windows may be a problem though...

I had a better one, but it got zapped by lightning. Inadequate surge protection. I'm told my hard drive might be salvagable. My roommates said they could do that, but as slow as they are, I'm afraid I'd be offline forever.

Shiiiit. That's what happened to my A64 Rig. I gave it to my sister, and my brother-in-law fixed it. I should be getting it back any day now.

An APC Surge Protector/Backup Power unit costs about $125. CompUSA has very good ones. When lightning strikes, nothing happens! It's very good to have.
