Empire Strikes Back

Great lines and best character development of all of them.

Even though I'm MUCH more of a Star Trek fan, I'm going to have to go with The Empire Strikes Back because of the fact that it makes all the other films look like utter crap in comparison.
Gooooold

The Empire Strikes Back, obviously. It's definitely the best. But I am really disappointed with the new Star Wars films they have produced. They just don't seem to have the same 'magic' as the originals.

That's because, at the time, Star Wars was completely original. Today, it's been copied, parodied, and stripped clean so much that it's nothing more than another summer action flick.

I think that it is also because they are focussing too much on the special effects in the films and not enough on the actual story.

They should never explain the Force-dammit. And how much narrative sense would it have made if Anikin had made R2-D2, NOT C-3PO. R2-D2 is the proactive element in the original series, and sooooo much weight could have been added to that if it turned out that the reason that that little droid was sooo frickin' special and determined to make that series work out was because he was specially built by Anikin.

That's not even tweaker complaints, thats just a look at the narrative. Good lord.

Having said that, I'm watching the last one when it comes out. I even think the trailer looks badass-I don't care if I'm going to be disapointed. There is a six-year old inside me that has not been consumed by the adult wrapper's cynism that needs to be humored.

I, unlike a lot of people, really don't mind the new movies. Sure they have their downfalls and lack some of the unique aspects of the first movies which made them so endearing. However, they also have their advantages. Apart from obviously looking much more polished, I feel the sabre fights are far better choreographed and the Jedi [while obviously their increased numbers and existence helps in this area] they have much more of an identity and it helps us better understand the Jedi order and their sense of duty. Also I could watch Natalie Portman until the cows come home, so that doesn't hurt either [except that she was done up like a clown for half of the first movie]. Anyway I have high hopes for the third movie as they have a lot of story to drive it, where as the first two seemed kinda stretched out.

I'm a Return of the Jedi fan because I think Ian McDiarmid really steals the show.

Empire Strikes Back, no question. The original was almost as good, but Empire had so much more to it.

And for the deleted post above: I forgot to log off of my brother's nation, and I didn't realize it until after I voted and posted. Oh well, he likes Empire the most, anyway.
