I wasn't really even trying to make a joke. I have different positions on different issues, so I don't really find that any of the cookie cutter politican ideologies fit for me. I think if you try to identify yourself too much with any one ideology you end up sacrificing your own personal beliefs for the "greater good" of the ideology that you put yourself in.

That's very true, something that plagued me for a while. It's also one of the reasons I have become more interested in anarchism.

The great thing about anarchism is that there's no-one telling you how the change is going to happen. No forecasting of the future.
Give me a Republic, like the old form of the US before the first world war please.

right now i'm confused. on the one hand i'm a little realist and would call myself a liberal. on the other hand i'm an idealist and could go as far as a kind of anarcho-communism and would like to see a moneyless society. but thats an idealistic long run approach and i realise its kind of ridiculous

No it's not, we lived without one for thousands upon thousands of years. Currency came after cities, actually.

So you'd go back to a trade/barter system?
So you'd go back to a trade/barter system?
Basically. Communal work, say on a farm, would result in the food being equally distributed among the residents and the surplus traded (or given) to other communes in need. Communes could have their own industry too, utilising renewable energy and machine automation- again the product could be traded on a one for one basis between communes. It sounded silly and primitive to me at first, but if you think about it, the more technology advances, the easier it will be to do.

exactly. there is no need for an agrarian society or reducing ourselves to simple bartering, as with modern technology, like the internet, goods and services can be traded freely between people all round the world quickly, easily and efficiently. it would be the ultimate in world free trade.
essentially, i put in x units of my labour into producing what i choose for a year, for free - no direct payment or reward. the payback comes as i can then get any goods or services i desire for absolutley free, as everyone else puts in their labour for free, all around the world. to avoid the problem of free riders, only people who contribute to the whole (by giving their labour to the system) may get anything out. a few (of the more unpleasant) jobs would have to be controlled by the govt, as few people would want to do them, but people could be picked to do those jobs on a rota basis, so nobody ends up with a job they don't want to do.
