Canadians? Fierce?

I'm not too sure but I'd seen a post a while ago and the poster was saying that Canadians are fierce debators but I'm not sure. I'm Canadian and I don't think Canadians are all that fierce of debators. Seriously! I haven't heard of any massive protests recently about anything in Canada against the gov't. We have problems with the gov't yes but we don't show it that much. Now then, maybe I'm wrong, and I just havent heard of it. Perhaps it's simply that some Canadians are really fierce. In some ways I'd think it'd be ironic because during the First World War, Canadian troops were considered by the British "shock troops". The Germans nicknamed us "Crazy Canucks". Unfortunately, our military is really lacking now (subs that don't float, jets that fall apart, Seakings that don't fly, a emergency aid task force that needs Russian transport planes which we borrow from America, poor Arctic forces, did I miss anything?) so it's just a thought.

Actually yes, we are quite fierce.
Led dy our leader Paul Martin, whose fiery visage causes fear in all who dare to gaze upon him, we ravage this globe from one corner to the other, displacing the innocent, striking down our enemies, and playing top-notch hockey.
I think we are, at least to a certain extent, what Louis St. Laurent said: a mediatory moderate middle power. We know our strengths, and our weaknesses, and we look for consensus, not victory.

Lol. Thx, I think. Not to sure about the striking down of our enemies part but other than that hockey in Canada has been locked-out then ya, I agree.

For one thing, protest isnt' really debate.

For another, it's March. How cold do you think it is in Ottawa right now? If someone organized a giant protest in -10C weather with a windchill how many people do you think would show up?

There's a big protest by farmers going on right now, I think in Toronto.

Canada has never been big on a military when there wasn't a world war, but when there is a world war and we are called to duty, we are fast to pull up our socks and fight, plus, having a big military is expensive, but I do think we should allocate a bit more spending to it so we can at least have decent equipment, 800 million for a military is just not enough.

if my sarcastic laughter sounds like banjo strings being plucked - i wonder if I can giggle out dueling banjos!

did you know the banjo originated in Africa? If you ever get a chance to hear african banjo music don't hesitate

Doesn't bother me, I'm Canadian and I'm not fierce in the least, I don't even like fighting, I would much prefer to be mellow then fierce.

Unfortunately, Canadians don't need to buy more guns, the gov't does however. An interesting statistic I read was that of like 1960 searches since 2002, over 1980 guns have been found. Anything from side-arms, shotguns, to uzis. Also, the 4 RCMP that were just recently killed, they were wearing light body armor. They were facing an assault rifle totting man who was part of the weed business. When criminals have better weapons and equipment than the military, then I think we have a problem.

Lol. I was just looking at some of your replies and I must say, some of you have a point. It's freezing outside so no one's going to really want to protest, but the point however is how often do you hear of ppl actually going out and doing something outrageous to get the gov't to do something, not very often.

Okay, how many Canadians out there think the gov't is corrupt? Quite honestly, I'd say we're much more corrupt than America or most countries for that matter by a long shot.

Well, I don't know if we're more corrupt than the states, but the corruption of the Liberal party in particular (although Mulroney matched it as best he could) is an established fact.

What do you mean no protests!?! you obviously didn't see the tractors at Queens Park. It disasterous! Angry farmers everwhere! Just because the Canadian equivilent to a serious protest is a team of tractors driving down the 401, doesn't mean we don't have them.

I like Brian Mulroney, I have a pin that says:
Eu Estou Com Brian!
I'm With Brian!
From 1985, I think thats pretty cool, especially because I wasn't even born.

I'd heard about that yes but I thought that happened a while ago? Anyways, what are they protesting about?

I'm not sure about Canadians in general, but on the Region of Canada's off-site forums, the debates do get fierce from time to time, and they can get very technical, very focused on proof, logic and reason. I suspect that this happens from time to time in most regions - I doubt its just a Canadian thing.
