oes the Israel Defense Forces believe incoming recruits and soldiers who play Dungeons and Dragons are unfit for elite units? Ynetnews has learned that 18-year-olds who tell recruiters they play the popular fantasy game are automatically given low security clearance.

“They're detached from reality and suscepitble to influence,” the army says.

Fans of the popular role-playing game had spoken of rumors of this strange policy by the IDF, but now the army has confirmed that it has a negative image of teens who play the game and labels them as problematic in regard to their draft status.

Actually if you go so far as to Larp I can see where they might have point. Also, I would be extremely leery of giving anyone who plays a Chaotic Neutral character any kind of major security clearance,

From what limited knowledge I have of D&D, aren't most of the players too fat or too weak to be soldiers anyway?

I dunno, you might find that whole detached from the reality thing useful. Tell them that taking down a level 6 T-80 tank with a level 2 Warrior character results in mega experience points and suddenly you've got a beserker on your hands.

Thank God. I have freinds who play that, and if they had weaponry, I would be cowering in my basement right now.

Why?

Meh D&D experience is limit to playing Icewind Dale II for a bit (and another one) and whatever I pick up by osmosis on the internet.

Though I see your point on LARPers.

It doesn't say anything bad about Hackmaster, so I guess I'm OK.

D&D nothing. The real homoicidal killers are made by The Sims.

What I find funny is that some of my friends that play D&D are either in the military or planning on joining it.

Seriously, it's a game. Nothing more. Why not prevent people who played Super Mario Bros. as a child because they think that eating mushrooms will make them bigger and stronger?

I bet you are the same people who blame Marilyn Manson for school shootings.

The mental image of a barbarian in full plate standing on top of a burning tank waving his axe around... Ahh, good stuff.

This is just stupid, my respect for the IDF just dropped a bit.

Seriousoly, I played D&D, and I don't think there is anything wrong with me now that wasn't wrong with me before.
In fact, I learned a few things in D&D, like charging blindly at an enemy is a BAD idea.

It's a variant of D&D for those who really want to play tongue in cheek.

Also, I don't think roleplaying games are a problem. A lot of US military people play them.

Well I'll answer to what I wrote that you posted being:

To respond to what said, specifically:
I bet you are the same people who blame Marilyn Manson for school shootings.

To mean it seems that you were assuming that Armed Bookworms agreed with what he posted, the IDF doesn't like D&D players. And went on to make an accusation against him on that assumption.

I was suggesting that when a poster posts something they do not always agree with it.
