Stupid People Who Talk Big

I'm sorry, it's just that this has irked me for so long, in and out of this NS forum. It's people who know pretty much nothing speaking as if they are actually knowledgeable. Allow me to post something I had just put up, leaving the respondee anonymous:

Then you ought to know that it is a genetic malady that leads men and women to be extra masculine or feminine. There are four combinations:

Man with YYX chromosomes (tend to be overly macho)
Man with YXX chromosomes (tend to be affeminite)
Woman with YYY chromosomes (tend to be overly affeminite)
Woman with YYX chromosomes (tend to be "butch")

You obviously have very little clue on what you're talking about. Klinefelter's syndrome is strictly XXY trisomy, which is a male karyotypic disorder. Turner's syndrome is X monosomy in women. The other two possible combinations are XYY syndrome (male) and XXX syndrome (female). Neither Y monosomy nor YYY trisomy are possible.

Men with Klinefelter's syndrome typically have gynecomastia (excessive development of the breast in males), a rounded body with abnormal body proportions, sparse facial and body hair, small testes, and are unable to produce sperm. Turner's syndrome is much more variable, and women with it can have a shorter stature, lymphoedema (swelling) of the hands and feet, a broad chest, widely spaced nipples, a low hairline, low-set ears, and, less commonly, a small lower jaw, cubitus valgus (turned-out elbows), a webbed neck, soft or upturned nails, pigmented moles, hearing loss, and a high-arched palate. XYY men show no distinctive traits, though they may be slightly taller, have more severe acne, skeletal malformations, larger hands and feet, and have behavioral problems. If I recall, a high percentage of males in prison have this chromosmal abnormality. XXX women are usually taller and may have menstrual irregularities, and may have an increased risk of learning disabilities and delayed speech and language skills.
I also should've added that normal women are XX, and normal men are XY, since I doubt even that was known.

Any ideas why on ignoramuses just love to act like they know shit, and then proceed to spout utter nonsense?

From re-reading that post, I guess it means that a woman has just an X chromosone and not the normal XX pair. But that is just a guess from the text.
I hope that isn't making up shit.

This does depend upon how you interpret the phrase "biggest talker"

1. The person who talks the most -> fight

2. The biggest person who can talk -> talk :)

Ah, I often get criticised for my word choice. Since I read a lot of technical stuff, I just get used to the jargon. I explained what I thought was too technical, such as gynecomastia and lymphoedema. If people bring stuff like that up, I'm happy to explain techincal terminology.

An organism (in this case human) with only a Y chromosome in their somatic (body) cells. Embryones with only a Y chromosome is incapable of surviving.

Yes, and be careful who you pick out in that scenario anyways. My buddy is about 180 lbs., 5'10", and talks more shit than anyone I know. Yet, the funniest thing is that I have watched him whip the hell out of guys that have 50 lbs. on him. Same as myself. I am reminded of the time I had a long argument with Dempublicents about what constituted an organism. However, these are different. I don't mind if the person shows that they actually know stuff and just have a misconception. What I do mind is when they just don't know what it is they're talking about. A virologist getting lectured on smallpox by a common person is like the Pope getting lectured on the Bible by someone who hasn't read it. Not like two virologists conferring and one realising he had a misinterpretation, or the Pope getting some revelation by some comment the person made.

Hah, I'm 5'9", 158 lbs, and I could take your friend. I probably wouldn't want to (if he's actually a nice person), but I guarantee that I could do it. I've had plenty of experience against my older brother (who is about four inches taller and has almost a hundred pounds on me). He's said that he doesn't wanna get in a fight with me (I beat the shit out of him three times because he was being a total dick).

Then there are guys like Glenn Danzig. Guys who talk the talk, but don't walk the walk. He's about 5'5", and he has one hell of a mouth. There's a video showing him trying to beat the shit out of this guy who's like 6'2", but he fails miserable (fist to the face). Google it, and you'll see!

That's the reason why I usually go to some lengths to explain whatever opinion I put forth. Perhaps my opinion is wrong but if I at least show my process, people can see where I went wrong and point it out to me.

I guess that's about the only thing I learnt from maths - only give the answer and you could be right or wrong, show your methodology and then even if you're wrong people might give you half marks :D

Sometimes the urge to talk with the air of authority on a subject can be overwhelming. Worse still, there are some subjects I KNOW I'm just a babe in swaddling on, yet when I find them discussed here I want to think of myself as an expert. Its almost silly.

Sometimes the best example I can follow is that of not letting your air of authority deafen you to other possibilities. The most respected people are those who are not afraid to learn from others; even those who "seem beneath them."

Bash.org is just one example ;)

It's very difficult to create a funny left wing parody on this forum as the place does slant leftward and hence it is more difficult to stand out.

Hmm, it seems to have shifted a little to the right recently what with a lot of posters "retiring" and whatnot, but there is still a solid core of socialists here I suspect. Also some of the more sensible leftists, like incertonia, seem to have got bored and just dissapeared. But while it certainly isn't as left wing as around the time of the presidential election, I don't think you could say this place was a rightwing bush lovefest.

Indeed, just the other day, we had a misguided individual who seemed to think that all sex was rape and all men are guilty etc. And I don't think it was a parody at all - annoying though. (Gen. Curtis Lemay, where are you when we need you).

Yeah, I know. It was AnarchyeL, and it was in my thread, "Do Take Note."

I was more commenting on how much a person's own political standing can skew their view of this forum. I know you to be a more conservative person, and you find that this forum has a liberal slant, where as the people that I was listening to complain are extremely left, and believe that his forum is powerfully conservative. You seriously think his terminology with Kinfelter's syndrome was the worst thing? Because that was the least of his problems. Though I have to say, "affeminite" is pretty bad, but I understand many people ahve trouble with orthography. If he or she just hadn't put "Woman with YYY chromosomes", I probably wouldn't be so irritated by it. Women can't have any Y chromosomes, much less three! The Y chromosome is really just an appendage added onto the X chromosome to help it propagate itself anyways, and humans certainly at least one X chromosome to live. And then saying "Man with YYX chromosomes . . . Woman with YYX chromosomes", which is contradicting himself. I was scorching him or her on the concepts much more than the jargon.

Excuse the typos. I have a numb hand and it affects my spelling

This is a problem in many areas and is generally caused by people speaking on topics outside their expertise. As an American who lives in China let me say that it is not just Americans who are ignorant. My God, some of the things that Europeans think about the US are simply beyond belief; they are so funny. They might have taken one trip for 10 days to NYC or LA or Miami and seen some TV shows and think that they understand the average American.

Speaking about subjects you know very little about becomes a real problem when you a person who is well known in one field speaking as an authority about another field. The fact that I might be a world expert in genetics doesn't mean that I know squat about environmential science, physics or even automotive maintenance. Some of the biggest jerks you'll ever meet are university professors who use their status as an expert in field "X" to convince you to believe something field "Y" Often times such people are able to use lingustic and people skills to bluff and intimidate their way past any opposition. Bothers me to no end.

Actually, a person can have an Y-chromosome and still be a woman, as long as the SRY-gene is non-functional (according to my genetic textbooks, yours mayby say something different). But of course everyone needs an X as you said.

As an anecdot (Spelling?) I can tell you about once when I was on a forum in Sweden discussing with a woman about the theory of evoultion. When I had disproven everything she had said her final statement was " I don't known why it's wrong, I just know it"

The former. I can certainly see why you would think I was just trying to show off, but I really was just pissed off. Just earlier today when I was at a museum, and gave a DNA exhibit a cursory glance, and it said something along the lines of "SARS / Is it a virus? / Is it a bacteria? . . ." and I got royally pissed off. I didn't even think about it, my mind just reacted negatively to such an incongruous statement. Pathology being one of my passions, I've done a lot on this subject, and that's why.

First of all, this has nothing to do with intelligence. Sensationalist titles just catch more people's eyes, and that's why I said "stupid people". Ignoramuses are who rub me the wrong way, the ones who don't even want to learn. Though I get bored easily if a person is lacking intelligence in certain areas, it is their attitude that I really care about. And, though I get this a lot, I do not share my knowledge for self-gratification purposes. I share it because I want others to do the same for me. If I don't know something, especially if I say something that's just wrong, I really want to be told. Occasionally I run into people who are like this, but far too often worries of bruising egos interferes with knowledge exchange.

And I do not believe that chromosomal abnormalities are considered congenital. Congenital means that it is developed in the uterus, not through heredity.

I have a numb hand because several years ago I was standing infront of a parked car that was rearended by a drunk lawyer. He pushed the car over me and I was drug under a parked car until he pushed it over a curb and against a tree that he couldn't push over. I was in the hospital 47 days and have nerve damage down my left arm. The arm feels like it is asleep all the time. because the hand is numb I cannot feel the keys very well which mmeans that I have look at the key board rather than the screen and you loose track of where you are doing that. I also tend to hit adjacent letters.

Actually, a person can have an Y-chromosome and still be a woman, as long as the SRY-gene is non-functional (according to my genetic textbooks, yours mayby say something different). But of course everyone needs an X as you said.
Ah, good point. I should've added that in, though they do not develop as normal females at puberty, especially in that they do not develop secondary sex traits or begin to menstrate. Also, now that you've joggered my memory, translocation of the part of the Y chromosome containing SRY to the X chromosome can result in males without a Y chromosome.
