I'm wondering if NS has grown too big for its own good. :D

I get massive lag problems, but never that.

I've occasionally had to re-open windows to post because it was taking so long.

I've ran across that screen a couple of times. I've never gotten it regularly though. Of course I don't post very often either. [shrugs]

Yes. And I seem to remember "Oh, we're banning word games and spam lite to alleviate the bandwidth problem until we switch to Jolt, where all the grass is green, and nothing ever breaks."

Yeah, I've had that, refresh usually works for me.

The first time I tried to reply to this is took so long to load the screen I gave up.

And I thought it was just the fact that I have dialup! :p

Once, the forum problem ended up with me getting a whole page consisting of my same post over and over again. :rolleyes:

From approximately 04:00 to 04:30 GMT every morning, the server slows / stops. While I have no specific inside knowledge of Jolt operations, my day job tells me that this is a relatively standard time (Jolt being hosted in the UK and all) to do backups and network maintenence.

It sucks that it happens during USA primetime, but too bad. At least it's predictable, and on the US east coast I get to watch the news and weather every night instead of staring at this damn screen for hours and hours and hours and hours ....

Jolt suffers fierce fits of flatulence on a dialy basis.

The problem is with the host, and namely Jolt.
I could provide hosting for us without these fits. It's so easy to install VBulletin, it's funny how much we charge for the feature.

It's a great program, but the host is laughable.

Yes i get that tons of times... it seems to particularly happen when i type a well thought out post.., now i copy all my big posts before posting...just in case.

I just had to delete a triple post. I have to refresh all the time, get the database error all the time and frequently have to exit NS and reenter because the damn thing freezes up. At first I thought it was my crappy computer, but once in a while I actually go to other sites, and it works okay on those. That's probably the only reason I don't post as often as I used to. I just get too frustrated to keep on trying sometimes.

Almost every night at around about 01:00 local time. For your references it is now 01:54 here, so you can convert from the post time.

You're a wise consumer. The answer to all of the above is; of course.
The bandwidth from this site would probably drown my other clients unless I could expand with the necessary funds.

Given (probably) the fundage they're probably spending (Max?), I could find a way to cut that in half. That's my job.

I don't really want the responsibility, I do fine financially without any new PITA clients.

But I'd probably be willing to help if the fundage were there.
I won't apologize for not being able to spend my personal funds, and I know that's not what you are really looking for.


But hell yes: I could eliminate almost completely 95% of the problems that we, as a commmunity, rightfully complain about here on Jolt.

....for those of you that are lagging (five minutes to post, etc.) just press stop and submit it agian, it will usually work.

Jolt is providing free hosting to NationStates. Are you willing to provide the same?

Also, note that many before you have tried to host working NationStates forums and failed. We are a force more powerful than any mere server can withstand.

And it amuses me greatly to hear people whining about Jolt that have Founding dates of July 2004 or afterwards. I have many gripes about Jolt, but forum speed isn't one of them. There's a reason we don't have a mere one dedicated server anymore.

No, Eichen, that was an observation. I have nothing whatsoever to do with running Jolt's forums, and no special insight into how they operate other than the fact that they regularly shut me out.

But since you asked so nicely, have a three day forum ban.

This answer has been given out by the mods so many times before. However, this time lag didn't exist until late January (at least in my experience).

Has anyone throught to ask the Jolt team if this is the actual case? And is it going to be permenant or is there an end in sight?

Also, as other seem to have noted above, overall I've noticed an increasing lag time at all times of the day.

The Jolt forum is better. But I'm seeing a slow decline...
