Is there a doctor in the house?

Maybe someone can help me. I can't open my left eye. At all. The corners of the eye are incredibly sore, and it's all kind of puffy and swolen around the eye. There's also some weird white coloration of my skin around the corners of the eye. Anyone know whether I should be dialing 911 right now? Help!

edit: I'd also like to add that you really take depth perception for granted. This is a very disorienting experience.

I don't personally know much about that sort of thing... My best guess would be to put in antibacterial drops if you have them... Maybe ice it? Otherwise I'd recommend getting it checked out.

I'm no doctor, but i have some practical experience with health science.

Do you happen to feel sick in any other way?

Nope, not at all. I'm feeling fine. A bit hungry, but otherwise fine.

Not a doctor, but I recently had a "weird" eye experience. I called one of those physician referral services (do you have any in your area) and they told me to go to the ER. I went in and they said that they only thing they could help with was if it was an injury to the eye or a foreign object in the eye.

So, if you are not sure if you have something in there, or possibly injured it, go to your local ER. But, my best advice to you would be to call your doctor (they should have an answering service if the office is closed) and ask what to do. If you don't have a regular doctor, call the emergency room of your local hospital and ask. If you have no one to take you in, then call an ambulance, but they charge big bucks!

Have a friend drive you to the ER now! Eye infections can have awful, permanent effects if left untreated, and it sounds like this is the point where you have no other option but to seek professional help, and a prescription.

Go now!

I say you'd better go to the doctor with that. I know an eyepatch would be cool, but normal vision is a little more practical

I would go to a walk in clinic. I don't know how much this hurts you, but if you walk up and the secretary automatically calls you an ambulance then you know it's something serious.

Go to some sort of health clinic or the emergency room immediately.

Your eyes are not things that you want to take chances with.

Or at the very least, go see your general practicioner. You really don't want to deal with a permenant imparment.

I agree, you probably want to get that checked out ASAP. See if you can go to a Opthamolygest (SP?). If you go to a eyeplace, you will probably be able to see a specialist much sooner than if you went to an emergency room.

Im not shure where you live, but try the phone book.

Well I'm being told by Dr. Aerou that I've probably scratched the eye. I have to call my parents to see if I'm still under their health insurance, and then I'll call a doctor.

I'm not a doctor, but I had that recently but with both eyes, and it was a result of an allergic reaction to some medication I was on. Are you taking any pills at the moment, or anything like that?
I don't know if you have this where you are, but where I live in this sort of situation there's a service at the hospital you can ring and describe your symptoms, and they tell you if you should go in now, or what to do at home, or to come in the next day. It's very helpful, and saves you a wasted trip or a long wait. If there's an option like that for you, that's what I'd go for.
Hope it gets better soon. I know, it's very unpleasant and disorientating. In the meantime, put some ice on it to reduce the swelling, it may mean you can open your eye a little more. Don't rub it or anything, although you probably worked that out for yourself. :)

And now that I'm back, I'd like to offer a formal apology to Aerou for not listening to her the first time when she told me to go to the damned hospital. It turns out that I have a corneal abrasion. It's nothing terribly serious, although it could have been if it had gotten infected. They gave me vicodin for the pain and a topical antibiotic that I have to apply to the inside of my eyelid (eww) three times a day for a week.

So, yeah, Aerou, I apologize. I should have heeded your greater wisdom initially and gone to the hospital when you said to. Even though I eventually listened to you, it was only after considerable effort on your part to convince me it was a big deal, and that I should not just put it off until tomorrow. I am sorry.

Does anybody know anything about Wellbutrin?

Wellbutrin or bupropion, is an antidepressant medication that affects chemicals within the brain that nerves use to send messages to each other. Bupropion is unique in that its major effect is on dopamine (This is different from what Paxil, Zoloft, and Prozac do)

You can get Wellbutrin in quite a few different dosages ranging from Wellbutrin (round tablets) 75mg (orange)-Wellbutrin XL (tablets) 300mg.

Wellbutrin SR and XL are perscribed for depression and it is being perscribed to people who want to quit smoking.

There are quite a few side effects, so this isn't a drug you should take without consulting with your doctor.

Your tremors are a common side effect of taking Wellbutrin, the shortness of breath although not common, is also a side effect. You shouldn't continue to take the medication unless it was prescribed to you by your doctor.

Sorry I didn't get back to you Oksana. My dad called long distance and we talked a while. Wellbutrin and lots of other anti-depressant can cause nervousness and insomniaas well as your other symptoms. These usually disappear after you've taken them for a while, but you should still discuss them with your doctor. Sometimes people can't tolerate certain side effects and if the bother you he can probably switch you to a different anti-depressant.
