Cannot help but find this slightly ironic.
Although, this I find odd
Mr Phillips suggested some black boys were hampered by a lack of self-esteem and positive role models, as well as an attitude that being clever was not cool.
Meh, I grew up with being clever not being cool and with low self-esteem. So I still learned, largely kept quite and myself to myself and created a slightly pessimistic, cynical world view. Maybe I'm being flippant, but I still don't get how segregated schools will help counter the low self-esteem and poor role models (admittedly, it is a subjective term) as well as the 'cool to be stupid' attitude.
Admittedly, I kinda see the point about the lack of positive role models for black school children, all they have is the guy off the Halifax ads.
This may be a difficult question. But I am sure NS general forum can find an acceptable solution that will achieve consensus and go on to become the world standard.
So, what do you think.
