A Prayer Request.

Personal responsibilit
07-03-2005, 19:25
For those of you who are Christian or even if you're not, I'd like to request your prayers for my brother's son. He's about 3 weeks old (1month premie though) and has a heart defect that restricted oxygen flow seriously yesterday to the point of him turning literally blue/purple. He is undergoing surgery this afternoon and I would appreciate your prayers.

This isn't a debate thread. I'd appreciate it if it didn't turn into one. This isn't a religous thread and doesn't need to be responded to. For those of you who take it seriously, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Though I'm not a Christian myself, I feel really sorry for you, and my heart goes out to you. I hope many, Many people on this site pray for him, while my own thoughts will be with you.

Hope he'll be okay, they usually are.

I'm not a Christian myself (don't worry, I'm not going to turn it into a debate thread!), but I just wanted you to know that I genuinely hope everything with your nephew's operation goes well. It must be a horrible thing through, and my thoughts are therefore with you, your brother and his family, and obviously the baby himself. Please let us know how it goes.

Anyhow...PR...while I'm rather agnostic...and left the Catholic Church a few years ago...I'll still pray for your kid just in case there actually is a god. Don't want the kid to suffer since I'm not a believer if that's the case. Did the same thing, breaking my own rules and believes, when my grandpa broke his neck...and he recovered. Hope your kid has the same luck. Best wishes.

Actually, I just talked to my mom who talked to my brother. Aparently, the cardiologist, after having them drive 150 miles this morning, decided he didn't think the surgery was necessary and was going to send them back home and have them come back if it happens again.

Then the surgeon saw what was going on and consulted with the Cardiologist and they decided to do another ultra sound on the babies heart. Of course they had to give him a sedative as he would calm down enough for that to happen.

I don't know anything further. I know my sister-in-law is fit to be tied at the Cardiologist and that they are getting jerked around like this this and is thoroughly frightened. I think my brother is just barely hanging on to his composure himself.

Please pray for the docs. to make an intelligent decision. Thanks again to everyone.

Well, just as I finish posting my mom calls back. With the ultra sound it is aparent that there is a muscular growth that is partially blocking the aorta and exacerbating a small hole in the right ventricle due to the pressure it is creating. All of the doctors are in agreement that surgery is necessary, but they aren't sure if it will still happen this afternoon or tomorrow morning.

You know, I can empathize and sympathize with your family on this variation of information from the Dr's. I have a 9 month old son. When I was pregnant, I was told that I was carrying a Down Synd baby and that it was apparent he had a heart malformation. They discussed surgery while he was still in the womb. They set me up with a specialist who handles In vitro Cardiology, and after several tests, concluded that it was not a DS baby. They made us wait a month before telling us the news....saying "We dont know whats going to happen" was all they had given me thus far. So he was born, big healthy 9lb 13oz boy....and then the first night in the hospital, they had to call in a PED Cardiologist because he was holding his breath and breathing heavily. They said he has a hole in his heart and we have to keep a check on it fairly often. I had a brother who died when he was 6 months old due to the same problem. But the point is...we have been told so many things, so many different things, and it can really make you crazy when you are at the mercy of the Dr's information. He seems to be a healthy happy baby right now. But His breathing does become alarming sometimes. I hate to see any baby or child suffer. I hope that the doctors will know the exact treatment necessary for your nephew. That he will live a long, healthy, happy life. :)

I guess you can sympathize/empathize. It is so sad that these things happen to such helpless little ones.

Aparently, this defect runs in my sister-in-law's family. Her brother has the growth and her grandfather and his brothers, a couple of which died from it in their 40's, have it as well. It is something that is supposed to be easily fixed with surgery and the success rate is somewhere near 98%, so, God willing, all should be well soon, though any surgery isn't without risk.

Faith and hope are sometimes the only things we have to help us get through some of these times - whether it be Christian in base, or otherwise. I sincerely hope it all turns out well, and that the specialists will have the wisdom to know the best course to take. I know from experience how hard it can be to have a child going through serious medical problems, whether your own, or a loved one. Be strong, and know there are many folks, as illustrated here, who are pulling for you and yours.

Here is a nice prayer that I use often. If you like it are many prayers for healing. There is a long one that is very powerful. I can send it if you like.

Thy name is my healing, O my God, and remembrance of Thee is my remedy. Nearness to Thee is my hope, and love for Thee is my companion. Thy mercy to me is my healing and my succor in both this world and the world to come. Thou, verily, art the All-Bountiful, the All-Knowing, the All-Wise.

Lucifer bless this child.

(Note: I am not joking, I take this very seriously. I do not want this child to be harmed in anyway. I cast this blessing for the good and well being of the child. It is not meant to be evil in anyway possible. Just because I'm a Satanist doesn't mean we can't do good for others. With that said. Keep your anti-Satanism posts for another time.)

I join those who do not pray, but wish the best for your nephew and your family. Keep up your hope.

So do I.

Thank you all for you prayers and well wishes. I'm very grateful. He came through surgery successfully last evening and to the best of my knowledge is doing well today, though I haven't heard from my brother yet. I'm assuming that no news is good news. I know my brother and sister-in-law were very relieved that everything worked out and the surgery was completed smoothly yesterday.

Thank you all again.

A little late to pray, but better late than never.

Yevarekhekha adonai veyishmrekha; yaer adonai panav eleikha viyekhunekha; yisa adonai panav eleikha veyasem lekha shalom.

May the lord bless you and protect you, may the lord countenance you and be gracious to you; may the lord favour you and grant you peace.

Best wishes :)

Wonderful to hear. :) Heard of any names for the baby yet?

Lol. I was just reading through some of the other responses and it kinda amazes me. How many ppl, from any belief, when times are tough, they tend to work together. Just to think that differences that often separate, don't always matter.

It was nice to see people from all over, (with the unfortunate exception of one 'renegade'), crossing 'party lines' for a good cause.

Glad you are having good news, PR. Keep us posted. :)

About your observation of people crossing party lines, I've been amazed and very touched. I guess the number of people who can wish an infant ill is a very small percentage of the population, at least here.

Maybe there's hope for humanity at large after all :p ;) .

I'll let you know if I hear anything new. I hope to talk to my brother tonight.

I like to think that there are 'good people' everywhere... like a slightly less exciting version of a city full of superheroes... people moving around among the crowds, but under their various 'diguises', a fundamentally good heart.

Very happy to hear all is going well!! My constant prayers will stay with the child for health and well being.:D

And I whole heartedly concur with Teckor, PR, and Grave_n_idle. It's so refreshing, a truly touching, to see us all put aside our differences for this child.

Will do.

I am so glad to hear he came through well, and my hopes are ever that he grows healthy and strong.

I agree with the others, it is so refreshing to find so may good people, ...

Now I'm going to go listen to Fanfare for the Common Man ( by Aaron Copeland ) and send more energies your nephews way.

Quite honestly, I don't think it's much of crossing party lines, it's simply being respectful and trying to do what you believe is right. I don't know or can think of any religion which actual says you can't hang out or co-operate with certain groups. They may say that it might not be best to under most cicumstances but otherwise I can't really think of any. Still, ya, you have point.

Okay, 1 last update. He made it home yesterday evening and is still doing well. His parents probably need your prayers more than he does at this point... sleep deprivation and all. But they are happy that the surgery and recovery went/are going so well. Thanks again to you all... :D :D
