Skin and half a papaya place each half on a fancy plate open side up. pour coconut milk over the papaya until you have about 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch on the plate. Add one small plop of sweet jasmine rice, then sprinkle a very slight amount of cinnamon over the plate. Wala you have an excellent tasting healthy dessert.

My most fun food tidbits:

The tomato is a fruit, but it was classified a vegetable in 1893 by the Supreme Court for trade reasons.

Chilis, such as jalapenos and habaneros, are berries.

best melon I have ever had was called a cantadew. It was a union of Honeydew and cantolope. (i don't know if it was literally, but it tasted like the best elements of both)

Where do you live at?

Ask around at local grocery stores. Depending on where you live they may or m ay not have them. Here they are fairly easy to get, but I live in a place where mexican and southwestern cooking are extremely popular. So such things are easy to find. If they don't have them, look for little "taste of mexico" type shops. Often run by Mexicans for mexicans. I'm sure there are some of these lovely oarnge (or red) balls of firey flaming goodness somewhere. If not, try ordering some from somewhere.

edit- ignore much of this, just read where you live....

I brought a bottle of daves habanero extract hot sauce, I forget which one (the hottest one) to an office party with barbecue. I put it on a piece of paper that said please use with caution this sauce is way too hot. Well when they read that and the testosterone kicked in they all used too much. Literally one drop could fire up a whole pot of chili. The lid had a dropper attached, but they were pouring it on. I just sat here and cracked up while listening to people all over the place screaming obscenities and running for the bathroom. That was so freaking funny. I later had to throw it away when my wife somehow got it in her eye after cleaning out the refrigerator. She had to go to the doctor and get her eye flushed out.

Cucumbers are melons?

I chose honeydew. Watermelon is gross, no matter how many times everyone else in the world tries to convince me I'm crazy for thinking so. Cantaloupe is a little too orange-flavored for my taste. (not orange like the fruit, orange like the color. you'd have to be synaesthetic to understand - colors come in all five senses to me, but especially hearing) So uh, yeah.

Our community has a chili cookoff every year, and there is one man who uses many (lots, like 20+) habeneros in his chili. It is almost deadly. But it is amazing chili. He puts orange quarters, and real good beef. Amazing chili. I have also seen varoius cakes, brownies, etc, combinig the flavor of habeneros with chocolate. Also very good.

Ah ... nod. The color is indicitive of the amount of capsicum in the membranes. The more red the chili, the hotter it is.

I don't know what the hell they are, but I buy these dried red peppers for my bird - he loves them. I planted a few of the seeds and I now have a pepper plant growing for him. Well, the peppers smell just like bell peppers, so I thought if I ate one before it turned red, it wouldn't be as hot. I cannot tolerate ANYTHING hot. I am a real wimp. So, I popped this pepper in my mouth and started chewing and at first it didn't seem so bad. Then the fire hit! I think I drank a quart of milk and 4 slices of bread and my mouth still burned. My husband was laughing his ass off, but I learned my lesson.

Since I can't even handle those kind of peppers (which my bird eats like candy), I think I will skip the habanero peppers.

Interesting tidbit here...

Birds apparently aren't affected by capsicum (the stuff in the pepper that makes it hot, as mentioned above)... They even sell capsicum powder in pouches that you can sprinkle over the bird seed in your feeders that will keep the squirrels and such from eating the seed...

The invading animals are affected by the heat just as we are, so they don't touch the seed, but the birds don't care, so they'll continue to eat as normal...

And here I thought he had an asbestos tongue! I have to be careful, though, he likes "preening" my face, and I always worry about him eating a pepper and then getting too near my eyes...

Watermelon for me. Yumm!

And spicy chocolate was how it was first introduced to Europe back when Spanish explorers brought it back. They made their hot chocolate with chillies and water - not milk.

I've tried some made from recepies of that time and it is quite tasty ( But too 'hot' for me to drink regularly )

African Bird Pepper is one that comes close to Habaneros in the sheer heat department - which in peppers is rated in BTU's actually.

I ate an entire one in a single gulp once in Mexico. Didn't know the type at the time. Looked charming and cute on top of that salad. So: pop - chew. And yes: I nearly died instantly. Scalding stomach ache kept me up half the night. Nice bit of gastronomy, that.
