PETA is utterly opposed to the iditarod. they find the thought of using dogs to pull sleds offensive.

Alaska was Russian territory, the US purchased it from Peter the Great. The Russians deeply regretted that during the cold war.

They usually have a dog or two die every year. Usually from something stupid like a moose trampling it. In the 25+ year history of the Iditorod, I think that there have been less than 5 cases of actual animal cruelty.
The Iditarod has been going for about 20 hours since the re-start at willow.

Winning DOG or winning human? Seems to me the human's just the manager, the dog(s) did all the work.
BTW, i got my eye on Scdoris. She's a model ... and legally blind! Woohoo!
AND..... a guy ran this race with poodles a few years back or so. Sucked when they'd freeze to the ground ....
