Burger King i dont know what Patra Caesar has against them.

A few decades ago an Australian travelled to America and asked the head of Burger King if he could open a franchise in Australia. They decided they wouldn't allow him because they felt there would not be enough market. So instead they came to an arrangement that Hungry Jacks would style its self on Burger King and give it a share of the profits. However the name Burger King was not allowed to be used in Australia lest it reflect poorly and it adopted the name of Hungry Jacks. The two companies, not wanting to be in competition also agreed to stay out of each other's markets, so basically Hungry Jacks would not leave Australia and Burger King wouldn't enter Australia. A few years ago however Burger king decided it wanted to make more money and saw how successful Hungry jacks was. So, in defiance of its contract Burger King started building stores here. Hungry Jacks took them to court because Burger King broke the contract. Hungry Jacks wanted either: a) Burger King to pull out of Australia in agreement with the contract or: b) Hungry Jacks would be free of the contract meaning they would not have to pay their profits to their competition. Burger King would agree to neither. Hungry Jacks won the case, but Burger King has ignored the result of the court case and continues operating stores nationwide. Due to little success it has not opened any new stores.

I've actually managed to ween(sp?) myself off fastfood so now I base my decision on how much the ads make me laugh, since I'm not goin'. (not to sound too self-satisfied, I replaced them with burrito bars and pizza by the slice places, so...)

That makes it a tie between Jack in the Box and the new Burger King ads with The King.

The best fast food available for me is from Hesburger, the Turku-based fast food empire, which pwns McDonald's any day. Also, Pizza Hut would be an option, along with Kotipizza.

The best is Wendy's, which I voted. There are Wendy's only in America, right?

Wow, what did they do in Australia? Here in the US the biggest problem with BK is the attitude of their employees, bad service, and food that isn't very good. (I don't like a flame-broiled hamburger that has been kept warm in water then put in a microwave to heat it up. yetch)

My favorite, Taco Bell. I like the Bob and a Taco for lunch.

"favorite fast food"

Those three words should never be in the same sentence together.

Reasons:
1) No food that's good food is fast food
2) Fast food doesn't taste anything like real food
3) Fast food isn't even food
4) You do of course realize that they are only giant vending machines where they haven't quite figured out how to get rid of the human element? But they're working on it.
5) The addition of the word favorite simply boggles the mind.

1) What defines "Fast food" to you?
2) I ate a pickle from a fast food place once. It tasted like a pickle out of my fridge. I ate a hamburger from a fast food place once. I tasted like a hamburger I made at home once. French fries tend to taste the same (on the average) no matter where you go.
3) If it isn't food, why can people eat it?
4) They've already done it. Go to a Sheetz.
5) Surprisingly enough, there are some restaurants out there that can really put together something good in short order. If I want a burrito and don't want to spend an hour and $10, I know where to go. If I want pizza that isn't recycled from lunchtime at the campus center, I know where to go. It's just as easy to have bias when choosing fast food as it is anything else.

Now, I speak for all of the posters in this thread to say that I'm sorry that a fast food monster gobbled up your sister. Maybe if you didn't live in such a seedy section of town, this would never have happened.

1) Poor quality food prepared in haste. If they take too long or god forbid they put on an extra pickle then the cooks risk being fired. Generally high fat and grease content and poor taste.
2)You must make horrible hamburgers then. Or possible they're just the premade patties which generally taste rancid anyways.
3) So, people eat lots of things that aren't food like Twinkies
4) Yeah, there are places that have figured that part out. I know of a few places in Japan that are like that.
5) Something good? Ha, That's a laugh

This coming from the person derailing the thread. Wonderful logic there. You could be a mathematician, really.

Seriously, there has to be a reason why you're so bitter about this. Did you work in fast food for a while? Meh, you probably haven't worked a day in your life. I have a reason to dislike fast food. I spent three years in the industry, and I took an entire year before I ever set foot inside another fast food stand and that was out of sheer necessity (College foodservice is right there with ghetto-quality fast food, in my opinion). I very rarely eat out anymore because I know exactly what goes down in the food service industry. I've got plenty of stories I could share, but I really don't feel like enforcing your close-mided argument. Your posts have the kind of tone that you have a personal chef in your three million dollar mansion.

Oh, and the dictionary says this about "food"

Material, usually of plant or animal origin, that contains essential nutrients, such as carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, or minerals, and is ingested and assimilated by an organism to produce energy, stimulate growth, and maintain life.

http://www.healthclub.com/foods/food.php?category_id=30306&brand_id=1&food_id=91059&partner=

Well, it appears that Twinkies are made primarily of Carbohydrate and Fat and a little bit of protein.

Now, I don't have my degree yet, but I do know a little bit about science. When I eat a twinkie (I don't because they're kind of nasty) it will get digested. In theory, those carbohydrates and fats are stored by the body for.... *ding ding ding* ENERGY! It meets the criteria for food! It may end up as fat, but if it ends up as fat that means the body must have digested it.

Well, maybe you couldn't be a mathematician since that proof probably didn't really make sense to you.

I can look up any Fast Food item, and come up with similar results. They all can be used for energy by the body. That makes them food. Your proprietary definition isn't any good outside of your own posts, and even then, it's a bit weak.

Also, Pre-formed patties are nasty, and anyone with half a brain buys their meat from a butcher, not a supermarket, but you already knew that.

In the 50's - 60's in New York there were places called the Automat. All the fresh cooked food was in big vending machines. You could get a whole meal. No waiters, no waitresses, no cashiers, no one to greet and seat you and no waiting. Go to the machines, put your money in, eat, and put your dirty dishes (they used real dishes) on the conveyor.

I dont eat anything with partially hydrogenated oil in it because it isnt fit for human consumption.

That strikes out just about all the fast food places.

Also, I am an excellent cook and a connoisseur of resturants, so I know better ways to spend my food budget.

I dont really consider fast food to be food.

What amazes many people is that for all my culinary snobbery, I greatly enjoy the occaisional meal from a "bertos" drive through mexican resturaunt.

Why, you ask?

Because they actually cook the food, it wasnt engineered in a lab somewhere.
It may be "fast" and come from a drive through, but it is *real.*

I used to like A&W - for no reason other than the fact that they made root beer floats with real soft serve ice cream. Now they've gone to using some synthetic garbage - so even that is tainted and I won't consume it. So I guess my response to the question would be 'none' since I really don't like fast food other than my old A&W floats.

Derailing the thread Ha, that's a joke. I was explaining why I dont eat at fast food and you had to be the one who turned it into something personal.

The title of the thread is "favorite fast food" and you came in and made a self-righteous tirade about how bad the fast food industry is. By that definition, you opened the opportunity for an alternative discourse, a discourse not pertaining to the original intent of the original post.

And as for taking it personally, I'm guilty as charged. I don't like fast food or the industry either. However, I'm still getting a very strong 'vibe' that you're just making generalizations about the industry. I've done three years in the industry, and I've worked at the three levels where you get your hands dirty (Crew, lower management, and store management). Although I've never seen the things they talk about in those 'horror stories' that get really well publicized in the big cities, I've seen some nasty stuff in those three years. After a couple months of working, I made the demand to management that I be the only person to cook my own food when I went on break. I would only eat the chili if I was there to mix it and monitor it the whole time it was on the oven. I was that paranoid. Luckily my demand for quality and innate abilities to work with numbers gained me a management position. Well, I shouldn't say 'luckily' but at least I was doing something a little more meaningful than just turning burgers for four hours and then going home. I made sure the store was kept beyond specification at all times, and I personally cleaned a lot of things on a nightly and weekly basis that previously didn't get cleaned for months at a time. Was I a complete 'douche' to my employees? You bet your ass I was. Did we have the cleanest and fastest store in the franchise after I started closing? We did that too. Frankly, that store was cleaner than the kitchen in my house could ever be, and that was under the supervision of my mother who knows a thing or two about keeping things clean. The fact that everything was held to such an objective standard that I felt obligated to uphold (I could never be a business major, I think too much about the customer) makes me think that your instant dismissal of fast food establishments as cockroach infested pits of burger death is a bit unfair to people like me who had something to prove when they did their requisite couple years in 'the service.' By 'service' I mean foodservice, by the way.

Why did I stay? Well, in a small town of 10,000, there aren't many jobs for a 16 year old to have that do not involve dropping out of high school and working in a factory or a machine shop or some such or... God Forbid... Wal-Mart (I hate Wal-mart with the fury of 1000 Suns). It's Fast Food or nothing, and I had to pay for my meager automobile somehow.

In the spirit of the original poster, I'd like to restate that I still like Rallys/Checkers. Their business model has a lower overhead, and even if they're greasy and bad for you, the burgers are still pretty tasty. Of course, only if you know the right time to get them ;)

I think its still in Taupo well it was 6 years ago when the Wellington stores closed down.
Maybe Auckland too
I remember the days of the $1 pie it forced McD's to lower their prices but GP just got choked. :( -I never had it tho :(

Stallones Pizza,Eagle Boys Pizza scared the B'Jesus out of Pizza Hutt too and it lowered prices then Pizza HAven and Domino's too its good because pizza Hutt is crap.
Now there are good National Pizza Chains like Hungry Kiwi and Hells Pizza its good.

Hungry Jacks, and may all Burger Kings in Australia BURN to the ground! I'm amazed that they're still allowed to stay open. Yet another multinational that thinks it can flaunt the law.

the one near me DID burn down!!!!
covered everything in sooty, fatty smoke.
one down, god knows how many more to go. Especially in Sydney.

Sam's Chicken. Ooh yes. Let me tell you all about Sams Chicken.

"Chicken" is perhaps a misnomer. We suspect that the majority of what is served is, in fact chicken - but we're damn sure that on occasion this has been fleshed out with such wonders as spicy rat strips and special recipe deep fried pigeon. Not to say these aren't universally delicious - merely disquieting.

You can find a Sams chicken anywhere in London where the one-pound shops rule, the estates cast their shadow and 'mugging' is actually listed on the tax return form.

But perhaps I am being unfair. They have a wonderful policy of ethnic diversity, which means, of course, I have learnt to order "number 21" in a variety of languages - but never English. They are universally small and cosy, with that wonderful home made touch - by which I mean, between bits of collapsing ceiling tile the gaffa tape is obvious. The floors are clean, which is good. The walls are clean, which is good. Even the kitchen is clean, which is bloody amazing. But sometimes you can catch a glimpse, perhaps on the outside pavement or on the aforementioned ceiling where the arterial spray of the most recent knifing has not quite yet been removed.

But you won't cheaper, yet edible chicken anywhere else.

At least, anywhere else thats open at 2 am and safe to enter.

The best fast food available for me is from Hesburger, the Turku-based fast food empire, which pwns McDonald's any day. Also, Pizza Hut would be an option, along with Kotipizza.

The best is Wendy's, which I voted. There are Wendy's only in America, right?

No.

There are two(at least one) Wendy's here in Panama. One is a big one, with two stories and it's right next to the mall, too.

And to answer the question...

While I'm not one of those people who would rather starve then eat Fast Food, I don't overdo it either. However, when I do eat fast food me likeys Subway!

Mmmm....Meatball subs....

Warren's Pasties.

Or any other Pasty shop for that matter.

For the uneducated amongst you, here is a pasty: http://www.alanrichards.org/images/pasty.gif

And here is how to make one. (http://www.alanrichards.org/cornish3.htm)

I don't know whether it counts as fast food, but theres a little place on RT 1 in NJ in South Brunswick called Burrito Royale. They are the best ever.
