I don't see any problems. Cousins should fight from time to time. A friends relatives on the border say things are the same as always.

No worse than before, really. Canada has historically kept the US at an arm's length. During the Mulroney government, relations were much better and Canadians saw our country as being a little too cozy with the US. The change in goverments here, as well a shift to the right down south brought an end to what was at best a temporary political unity.
