However I enjoy watching rugby (and soccer to a lesser extent) more.

Soccer is undoubtedly the best out of those.

I have no idea what the difference between Rugby League and Union is, but Rugby as I know it isn't a very good sport. American Football is complete sh-te, and though Aussie rules is ok, it's no soccer. :)

Edit - Ooops! I misread the poll. American football (Grid Irons) has half the vote, I'm the only one to vote for AFL! Personally I don't care too much for American football because they are allowed to throw the ball forwards, which is cheating! :D :gundge: Plus they wear all that strange crap!  :gundge:

In all seriousness, it takes a hell of a lot of skill to complete a good amount of passes. It's not just heaving it out into the open. You have to anticipate, and you have to pick very carefully (and watch for double coverage).

The Quarterback position is a very daunting one, and it's the most difficult in the game. You have to pick plays (if the Coach isn't a bastard, he'll let you do this), you have to call signals, assign different routes, and get the timing right. You also have to avoid a lot of rushers and blockers.

Do a google search for Dan Marino. Read about him, and you'll see why some of us are so fascinated with the American Football (and the QB position).

You made it difficult by not allowing multiple choices.

I live in Brazil, so I have to at least have some interest in football (soccer)
But:
I played RU at school and for the old boys
I played RL at college
I played American Football at Uni (in England, Go celtics. If anyone call tell which uni that is they get a cookie)

So I vote against Aussie rules simply from ignorance.

I voted for RU as it was my first sport, and I must be one of the very few peole in the world to have played tight head and wing 3/4 (Blind side Flanker no. 6 was my normal station though)

Nope, not in the least. I was born in McAllen, Texas, near the Mexican border. I've lived in the Houston area for the past eight years.

But, that doesn't mean I'm anything like the people here. I have much more in common with people from Pitt (the way I talk, the foods I like, etc.). It's got a lot to do with the kids who were my friends when I was growing up (they were all from the Northeast).

In my mind, Pitt is It.

1. Soccer is for Faries
2. Football rules all ( i am from the south what else do you expect)
p.s., we pass forward because the passes are a lot farther than in rugby, I used to play rugby (hooker) for the college I go to I know. Rugby passes are usually close, short, and quick, Football passes can be around 30-40 yards, big difference. We wear pads in football because we like our faces and brains, this is why rugby players end up like meat heads, and Football players are usually left with AT LEAST half a brain. Unless you were actually talking about football in europe (which i didn't even know they had) and by that I mean football, and not gay ass soccer. In which case, I do not understand why you do not wear more protection.
3. Baseball, is the second best.

1 and 3 No comment beyond you are entitled to your opinion.
2. True, rugby passes are usually short and sharp, but sometimes a double miss pass from fly half out to a winger can cover thirty plus yards. Rare though.
I played American football in the UK, fully padded. ( I had to switch from rugby due to a neck injury) Helmet, shoulder & ribs, kidneys, groin, hip, thigh and tailbone pads. Some were optional (kidney, thigh and tailbone), but most people used them all.

You are telling me that your shoulder pads did not lace up down the front over your rib cage.
Obviously, if we were playing American fotball we were imitating the US (or maybe Canada), but we didn't care about that. We just played to hit people, well the defense did anyway. I cant swear for the offense.

Which is also where your ribs end. Anyway, what I meant by rib pads was this extension down from the shoulders. As a D Lineman this protection was particularly good to have for me.

He may have been a wimp, but the great Quarterbacks of our time have all worn Flak Jackets.

Dan Marino, John Elway, Steve Young, and Brett Favre. Elway had the most substantial, but Marino had the most padding overall (20 total pounds).
